Abstract: The present invention relates to an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive composition, specifically, an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive composition having improved anti-static properties, comprising 100 part by weight of acrylic copolymers, 0.01 to 20 part by weight of ester plasticizer having at least one ether linkage in the molecular structure, and 0.001 to 25 part by weight of metal salts consisting of alkali metal cation, and anion which is counter-ion of super strong acid and has perfluoro alkyl group, and prevent whitening of appearance under high temperature and humidity condition as well as static electricity without change of the durability, transparency, and adhesion.

Suitably the microcapsules can be designed to have a particular density and can be used in the transfer fluids where the density of the microcapsules are the same as the carrier fluid.

Abstract: A golf ball material composed of (A) an olefin-containing thermoplastic polymer having an acid content of at least 0.5 wt % but less than 5.0 wt %, (B) a resin composition which includes one or more selected from the group consisting of diene polymers, thermoplastic polymers and thermoset polymers, and (C) an oxygen-containing inorganic metal compound has a good thermal stability, flow and processability, making it suitable for injection molding. Abstract: An ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin having low odor of acetic acid and good long-run workability is provided. The ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin which contains an alkali metal salt (A) and has a very low extractable carboxylate content is obtained by a method including contacting the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin with an aqueous solution containing carbon dioxide gas.
Abstract: A biodegradable packaging film is provided. The film is formed from a blend that contains a thermoplastic starch and polylactic acid. Starch is a relatively inexpensive natural polymer that is also renewable and biodegradable. Polylactic acid is likewise an inexpensive synthetic polymer that is biodegradable and renewable, yet also capable of providing increased tensile strength to the film. Although providing a good combination of biodegradability/renewability and increased tensile strength, the polylactic acid is also relatively rigid and can result in films having a relatively high stiffness (e.g., high modulus of elasticity) and low ductility. While more ductile than polylactic acid, the thermoplastic starch is often difficult to melt process in film forming processes and very sensitive to moisture and water vapor, reducing its ability to be used as a stand alone packaging film.
Abstract: A non-halogen flame retardant thermoplastic elastomer resin composition includes (A) 30 to 80 parts by weight of an ethylene-methylacrylate copolymer (EMA) containing 30 mass % or more of a methylacrylate or 30 to 80 parts by weight of an ethylene-ethylacrylate copolymer (EEA) containing 15 mass % or more of a ethylacrylate and having a melt flow rate of 0.8 mg/10 min or more; (B) 20 to 70 parts by weight of a thermoplastic polyolefin resin; and (C) 50 to 300 parts by weight of a non-halogen flame retardant agent with respect to 100 parts by weight of the component (A) and the component (B) in total, in which the EMA or EEA is silane-crosslinked.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are a polyamic acid dope solution composition, a method for preparing a hollow fiber using the composition and a hollow fiber prepared by the method. More specifically, disclosed are a method for preparing a hollow fiber, comprising preparing a polyamic acid dope solution composition comprising polyhydroxyamic acid, polythiolamic acid or polyaminoamic acid, spinning the composition to prepare a hollow fiber, and imidizing and thermally rearranging the hollow fiber, and the hollow fiber prepared by the method. In accordance with the method, a hollow fiber made of a high free volume polymer membrane can be prepared by spinning the dope solution composition to prepare a hollow fiber and thermally rearranging the hollow fiber via thermal treatment. The hollow fiber thus prepared exhibits excellent gas permeability and selectivity, thus being suitable for use as a gas separation membrane.

Abstract: Methods for producing a resin film or a layered article which are excellent in gas barrier properties under high humidity conditions are disclosed. In the methods, a precursor film of a resin composition composed of alkali metal ions and a resin component having both hydroxyl groups and carboxyl groups is subjected to treatments including (i) dry heating treatment of holding the precursor film under an atmosphere characterized by a temperature not lower than 100° C. and a water vapor concentration less than 50 g/m3, (ii) wet heating treatment of holding the precursor film resulting from the dry heating treatment under an atmosphere characterized by a temperature not lower than 100° C. and a water vapor concentration more than 290 g/m3 or in water at a temperature not lower than 80° C., and (iii) drying the precursor film resulting from the wet heating treatment.
Abstract: This invention discloses a process for manufacturing an elastomeric article by liquid injection molding, said process comprising the steps of: (I) heating a curable composition comprised of (1) a liquid polymer comprised of repeat units that are derived from a conjugated diolefin monomer, wherein said liquid polymer has a weight average molecular weight which is within the range of 5,000 to 100,000, and wherein the liquid polymer is functionalized with an amine moiety, (2) a carbonyl inhibited platinum catalyst, and (3) a tetrakis(dialkyl siloxy) silane crosslinking agent, to a temperature which is within the range of 30° C. to 100° C.; (II) injecting the heated curable composition into a mold at a temperature which is within the range of 100° C. to 210° C. to produce the elastomeric article; and (III) removing the elastomeric article from the mold.

Abstract: An oxygen absorption resin composition is provided that comprises a thermoplastic resin (A) having carbon-carbon double bonds substantially in its main chain and a transition metal salt (B). Abstract: A coating composition comprising an effective corrosion-inhibiting amount of a carbon pigment is provided. In one embodiment, the corrosion-inhibiting carbon pigment is further comprising other components such as extenders, including neutral to slightly acidic generating extenders and acidic generating extenders, are earth compounds, amino acids and amino acid derivatives, gelatin and gelatin derivatives, organic-based exchange resins, and combinations thereof, to enhance the corrosion resistance of the resultant coating film. In one embodiment, the carbon pigment is a surface-modified carbon pigment. The coating compositions have good adhesion to substrates such as metals, including aluminum and aluminum alloys.

Abstract: A two-component, water based micro encapsulation composition and method for the cleanup of hydrocarbon spills or contaminates on various surfaces and media. The two-part formulation includes a first solution including water in a predetermined ratio of a water soluble alkaline silicate solution having at least one alkali metal and a predetermined ratio of at least one water soluble surfactant; and a second solution including water, a predetermined ratio of water soluble acid, a predetermined ratio of water dispersible polymer, a predetermined ratio of water soluble hydrotrope, and a predetermined ratio of at least one water soluble flocculating agent. A method of using the two-part formulation includes preparing the two-part formulation, allowing the first solution to contact the hydrocarbon or chemical contaminate; allowing the second solution to contact the first solution and contaminate to form a homogeneous mixture; and removing the homogeneous mixture.

Abstract: The invention relates to a pressure-sensitive adhesive for an optical film, comprising 0.02 to 2 parts by weight of a peroxide (B) and 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of an isocyanate-based compound (C) contained in 100 parts by weight of a (meth)acrylic polymer (A) consisting primarily of an alkyl(meth)acrylate and not containing a functional group reactive with an isocyanate group. By using the invented pressure-sensitive adhesive for an optical film, there can be obtained a pressure sensitive adhesion type optical film that can suppress warping and light leakage caused by a stress accompanying a dimensional change of members such as an optical film, has high durability, is excellent in handling ability in the manufacturing process and is excellent in quality.
Abstract: A production method of an aqueous pigment dispersion liquid of the present invention includes: a kneading step of kneading a mixture including (a) C. I. pigment violet 23, (b) a styrene-acrylic acid-based copolymer with an acid value of 50 to 300 mgKOH/g, (c) an alkali metal hydroxide, (d) water, and (e) a wetting agent, thereby producing a colored, kneaded material; and a dispersion step of dispersing the pigmented, kneaded material in an aqueous medium by using a dispersing machine with media, wherein the mass ratio of (b)/(a) in the kneading step is within a range of 0.15 to 0.45, the mass ratio of (d)/(a) in the first half of the kneading step is within a range of 0.04 to 0.42, and the change in viscosity of materials to be dispersed in the dispersion step is 10% or lower.
Abstract: A golf ball material composed of (A) an oxygen-containing inorganic metal compound in the form of a particulate or a master batch capable of neutralizing at least some of the acid groups in an acid-containing polymer blend, (B) one or more polymer selected from among diene polymers, thermoplastic polymers and thermoset polymers, and (C) an acid-containing polymer is prepared by mixing component A in a blend of components B and C. The golf ball material has a good heat resistance, flowability and processability, and can be used to produce high-performance golf balls having durability, scuff resistance and optimal hardness without a loss of rebound.
Abstract: The present application provides improved diffusion coating compositions and improved methods for diffusion coating metal surfaces. The composition includes (a) a coating powder; and (b) a binder, wherein the coating powder comprises at least one metal, and wherein the binder will release an activator gas during vaporization or combustion. The method includes the steps of (a) providing a substrate; (b) applying a diffusion coating composition to at least a portion of the substrate, wherein the composition comprises a coating powder and a binder, the coating powder comprising at least one metal; and (c) vaporizing or combusting at least a portion of the composition so as to vaporize or combust at least a portion of the binder to produce an activation gas and vaporize at least a portion of the metal to form a coating of the metal on the substrate.

Abstract: Systems and methods of staining a surface. An organic salt is used in combination with a metal salt to provide a decorative stain that can be used to stain any of a variety of pH basic surfaces, including concrete. In at least some implementations, urea hydrochloride or an equivalent thereof is used as an organic salt in combination with a metal salt to create an alkali reactive decorative stain that can be used to stain any of a variety of pH basic surfaces, including concrete. The urea hydrochloride is safe and environmentally fit to use. Different metal salts are used and/or mixed to obtain a desired color and/or appearance.

Abstract: Chemically crosslinked polycyclooctene having excellent shape recovery properties and a method for its synthesis via ring-opening metathesis polymerization of cyclooctene using the dihydroimidazolylidene-modified Grubbs catalyst are disclosed. The polycyclooctene products, following curing with dicumyl peroxide can be shaped, the shape memorized, a new shape imparted with the original shape being recoverable by suitable temperature adjustment. The dependence of shape memory characteristics on degree of crosslinking was established. In addition to polycyclooctene, blends thereof with other materials such as SBR, EVA, polyurethane rubbers, and inorganic fillers can be utilized to provide chemically crosslinked products having excellent and tailored shape memory properties.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a sizing composition that, when applied to paper substrate, creates a substrate, preferably suitable for inkjet printing, having increased print density, enhanced print mottle, as well as print sharpness, low HST, and/or image dry time, the substrate preferably having high brightness and reduced color-to-color bleed as well. In addition, the present invention relates to a method of reducing the HST of a paper substrate by applying the sizing composition to at least one surface thereof. Further, the application relates to methods of making and using the sizing composition, as well as methods of making and using the paper containing the sizing composition.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a water-swellable material comprising an inherently crosslinked polymer matrix and inorganic solid particles bound therein with a time-dependent swelling behavior that corresponds to a water uptake of at least 7.5 times the inherent weight of the hybrid material within one hour, as well as the applications thereof. The present invention further relates to a method for manufacture of such a water-swellable hybrid material.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a highly concentrated pigment comprising from 75 to 95% by weight, preferably from 78 to 95% by weight, most preferred from 80 to 95% by weight, based on the weight of the composition, of a pigment; from 0 to 20% by weight, preferably from 5 to 18% by weight, based on the weight of the composition, of a resin; the total of pigment and resin being from 85 to 98% by weight of the composition; and from 1 to 15% by weight, preferably from 2 to 15% by weight, most preferably from 5 to 15% by weight, based on the weight of the composition, of a C10-C18 alcohol, a liquid hydrocarbon having a boiling point higher than 80° C. at 105 Pa, or both a C10-C18 alcohol and a liquid hydrocarbon having a boiling point higher than 80° C. at 105 Pa. Also claimed are a process for its manufacture, comprising dry-milling, blending and kneading the components, and the use of the pigment concentrates for the preparation of a masterbatch, ink, coating, plastic material, toner or colour filter.

Abstract: The present invention provides a manufactured aggregate material that converts waste materials and/or recyclable materials into construction material. By mixing waste materials with an acid solution and a metal oxide solution, any harmful contaminates in the waste materials are encapsulated and rendered into hard pellets that are suitable for use in conglomerates or composites such as concrete. The manufactured aggregate material may be adjusted for moisture content, density, heat capacity, and other parameters.

Abstract: The invention provides a fire resistant material and a formulation thereof. The formulation comprises a liquid suspension of a modified inorganic particle and an organic component. The modified inorganic particle comprises an inorganic particle with hydroxyl groups and a surface modifier coupled to the inorganic particle via a urethane linkage, wherein the surface modifier has an ethylenically unsaturated end group. The organic component comprises a monomer, oligomer, prepolymer, polymer, or combinations thereof, capable of reacting with the ethylenically unsaturated end group.

Abstract: The invention relates to a transparent, electrically conductive, biaxially oriented, single- or multilayer polyester film which includes a coating composed of (a) conductive (ITO) indium tin oxide particles or (ATO) antimony tin oxide particles, or of a mixture of these. The film further include other conductive components (b). The other conductive components (b) may be present either in the coating including ITO particles and/or ATO particles or in a layer in contact therewith. The conductive component (b) may also be a metal layer in contact with the ITO and/or ATO. The film is only oriented or relaxed prior to application of the ITO and/or ATO coating. The invention further relates to a process for the production of the film, and its use.
