Abstract: The present invention relates to an air cleaner for the removal of pollutants from an air flow by a filter module, the filter module of which comprises at least one permeable filter layer for the accumulation of pollutants on the filter layer. According to the invention, a bypass channel will be provided and established such that part of the unfiltered air flow may bypass any filter layer. Surprisingly, such a bypass channel does hardly compromise the cleaning effect of the filter module, at least as long as the filter layer has not yet been clogged with pollutants since in this case the biggest part of the air flow will take the major path through the filter layer due to lack of resistance. Only if the filter layer is clogged and if resistance for the air flow increases, air will obviously flow through the mentioned bypass channel.

Abstract: An air cleaner for a motor vehicle. The air cleaner includes a housing having side walls and a bottom wail defining a chamber. A filter is received within the chamber and cooperates with the housing to define a collection chamber. A primary inlet defines a primary passage into the collection chamber, and a secondary inlet defines a passage bypassing the collection chamber. The secondary inlet also includes a conduit, having an end abutting the filter. The air cleaner further includes a door positioned with respect to the secondary inlet so as to generally obstruct the secondary inlet when the door is in a closed position. The door is pivotable about weakened regions to an open position if the airflow through the primary passage is lower than a critical level.

Abstract: A filtration unit for use with an environmental control unit (ECU), usually a portable ECU, which includes at least two air flow paths wherein at least one of the air flow paths allows for use of air which has not passed through a nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) filter and at least one other does. The filtration unit may have at least three air paths, at least two of which provide NBC filtered air. This filtration unit can provide for longer expected operational life before filter replacement is required in both contaminated and non-contaminated environments. Further, the filtration unit may include remote sensing and control apparatus allowing for quick switching between operational modes depending on the need for filtered vs. unfiltered air and for a decreased reliance on personnel for maintenance and control, and a more simplified setup.

Abstract: A filter bypass valve is disposed in parallel with an aircraft cabin air filtration system air filter. During normal operation, air is filtered through the air filter at an air flow that meets air flow requirements of the system. The bypass valve is designed to remain closed during normal use, and to open if the differential pressure across the air filter reaches a predetermined opening differential pressure to allow airflow to be partially or fully diverted around the air filter.

  • Patent number: 7011690
Abstract: Known devices for separating liquids using parallel-connected cyclones, when gas flows are fluctuating, have a poor separating action. In the device of the invention, the separating action is conversely improved by providing that the number of separator elements through which the gas flow flows is adapted in each case to the gas flow. When the gas flow is high, there is a flow through more separator elements than when the gas flow is low. In this way, the separator elements are operated closer to the optimal operating point than in the prior art. According to the invention, it is proposed that a closing body (11) of a distributor valve (13) be disposed movably in a distributor conduit (10) and either automatically or by means of a drive mechanism adjusts the optimal number of separator elements (16) through which there is a flow.
