The method may continue with calculating an amount of fuel burned on an upstream catalyst based on the plurality of fluid enthalpy values, and determining an amount of fuel remaining that is available for combustion on a downstream catalyst. The method may determine a combustion efficiency of the downstream catalyst based on the temperature rise across the downstream catalyst, and an amount of heat generated within the downstream catalyst based on the combustion efficiency and the amount of fuel remaining that is available for combustion on the downstream catalyst.

  • Patent number: 7743604
Abstract: A system for providing heat to the dump body of a dump truck is disclosed. The disclosed system is suitable for use with truck equipped with a diesel particulate filter. When enabled, the system controls the exit path of exhaust gas such that it is routed to the dump body during normal operating conditions. In one embodiment, when the diesel particulate filter enters a regeneration cycle, high heat is produced. The system then routes the exhaust gas as to bypass the dump body to avoid heat damage from the higher temperature exhaust gas.

Abstract: An energy recovery system for hybrid automobile. The energy recovery system generates electricity by utilizing the temperature difference between a high temperature thermal medium and a low temperature thermal medium. As the high temperature thermal medium, engine coolant for cooling an engine is used. As the low temperature thermal medium, pump refrigerant for cooling by a heat pump is used. The heat pump maintains the pump refrigerant at a low temperature by using heat from the engine coolant. Therefore, while electricity is reliably generated at a thermoelectric converter, energy is efficiently used for cooling the pump refrigerant.
