  • Patent number: 11261621
Abstract: A zipper lock has two locking members to secure two zipper pulls of a suitcase and a control plate to cause the locking member to disengage from the zipper pulls. The lock has a latch engaged with the control plate, the latch positionable in a first latch position when the lock is in a locked mode or in a second latch position to open the lock. The lock has a combination mechanism using dials and clutches to control the movement of a spindle which allows the latch to move the second latch position when the arrangement of the dials matches the correct combination code. The lock also has a key-overriding mechanism using a cylinder to cause the movement of the latch when a correct key is used to turn the cylinder to open the lock. A recovery mechanism allows a user to recover the lost combination code.

More specifically, the lock mechanism includes a mechanical combination lock having a bolt-retracting linkage which is tripped by inward movement of a dial into a first operative relationship with a driver on the drive spindle. An electronic latch prevents bolt retraction by this bolt-retracting linkage when in the first operative positive until the electronic latch has been operated. The number dials, the springs, and the driving rolls are respectively set in the second tray, and the hook wedged with the contact chip is put on the two trays. When this lock is locked, the sliding strips do not engage with the recesses of the driving rolls, thereby allowing the driving rolls to rotate with the number dials. Therefore, the sliding strips will be prevented from sliding up if the combination is off. When the numbers are put into the right combination, the lock is opened and the sliding strips are partly engaged with the recesses so that the hook can be pulled up. The combination of the lock can be changed (while in opening combination) by turning the hook right 90 degrees and then pulling it up so that the sliding strips are completely engaged with the recesses. This keeps the driving rolls from rotating with the number dials.

  • Patent number: 4651545
Abstract: A combination lock has a plurality of shaft-mounted setting discs located behind viewing windows in a front plate of a lock housing. The setting discs have setting symbols and detent engage in individual angular positions. Locking sleeves are adjacent and cooperate with the setting discs. A spring-biased rocker has feeler projections with feeler surfaces which cooperate with engagement spaces in the locking sleeves. The rocker is adapted to engage a mating locking part of the lock. When the lock combination is properly set, the engagement spaces lie in respective positions opposite the feeler projections. The rocker comprises a U-shape including U-arms which surround the setting discs and the locking sleeves. The setting discs are mounted on respective shafts, and the rocker has an axis extending transverse to a plane through the respective shafts of the setting discs.

  • Patent number: 4616492
Abstract: The combination lock is one wherein movable members of the combination mechanism are set in decoding position by a key in the form of a rotatable shaft with a head at one end serving as a handle. Rotation of the key to proper decoding position is determined by shifting an index mark on the key relative to selected units of a set of letters or numerals on the lock housing. The combination mechanism makes use of a multiple number of pairs of discs concealed in the housing which must be successively set in proper decoding position, one disc relative to the other, to release a lock operating plug. In proper decoding position a slide bar, which normally blocks rotation of the lock operating plug, is shifted by key action into openings provided in the discs and out of blocking engagement with the plug, in which position the plug is free for rotation by the key.

Abstract: The invention relates to the technical field of combination locks, and in particular to a combination lock of the type having a plurality of combination dials which, once angularly positioned, enable a manually turnable driver element to cause translation of a bolt element by a means of a stud engageable with said combination dials.Provision is made for said stud to be rotatable coaxially with said dials and oscillably movable radially thereto. Further, said dials are defined by a ring which is split by a cut and clamped, by elastic deformation, onto a smooth surface of a hub.

Abstract: An easily assembled combination lock has improved tumbler wheel construction, combination changing apparatus, and a bi-positional lock cover which selects between spring-bolt and dead-bolt operation. The improved tumbler wheels have two-piece construction, an inner drive member having a projection, groove and stop assembly cooperating with adjacent tumbler wheels, and a gate ring having a gate and improved gripping apparatus for frictionally engaging the gate ring with the inner drive member. The inner drive member has multiple ratchet teeth about its periphery and the improved gripping apparatus includes a pair of diametrically opposed gripping straps integral with the gate ring, in tension, and tangentially contacting the periphery of the inner drive member imparting a predetermined frictional resistance to rotation. Two normal modes of tumbler wheel operation are contemplated.

  • Patent number: 4534195
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lock having a key provided with variable key information elements which are adapted to be scanned during rotation of the key around an axis of the lock. The key preferably includes ten (10) cam plates fixedly joined together in pairs for rotation and mounted in pairs on coaxial hollow shafts. Each shaft is driven by a handwheel in an angularly variable manner. Each cam plate has five (5) different radial steps, so that each pair of cam plates correspondingly has twenty-five (25) different possible combinations of angular positions, each of which can be identified by a letter of the alphabet on the respective handwheel. The key combination is legible through a display window. The lock and its key which are of a relatively simple design, allow the key combination to be easily set and readily recalled.

  • Patent number: 4520641
Abstract: A multi-dial combination lock is provided with a security feature whereby the dials are rotated when the lock is opened in order to upset the on-combination setting of the dials. Each dial has a heart-shaped cam and a cam operator is provided including followers for the respective cams. When the lock is set on-combination, and an actuator is moved manually in order to open the lock, the actuator also works the cam operator so as to apply pressure to the cam formations on the respective dials effective to rotate each of the dials into a set orientation. In the set orientation to which the dials are rotated, each dial may be orientated so as to display the same combination indicium, e.g. "0". The lock also includes a shift member for changing the set combination of the dials, the shift member being situated in a pocket formed in the manual actuator.
