Abstract: A method utilizes a locking device that includes a shackle member having a shank with a latch portion and a stop at opposite ends. A locking head mounts in a locked state on the latch portion but is removable when unlocked. A sleeve is carried on the shank but is removable. The sleeve and the shank together define a size conversion structure for the shackle. When the sleeve is on the shank, the shackle has one operative thickness to closely fit one size aperture, but when the sleeve is removed, the shackle has another, smaller operative thickness to fit a smaller aperture. A retaining member may be employed to resist removal of the sleeve. Two or more sleeves may be used to fit more than two apertures.

Abstract: A closing device includes a cylinder core with followers and a closing cylinder with a freewheel sleeve and a housing accommodating the sleeve. Normally, a coupling slider is coupled to the cylinder core by a restoring force, but is decoupled therefrom in the event of overcharge. An axial connection is provided between the coupling slider and a locking and controlling member. The slider and the locking and controlling member can be radially moved, however, can be rotated between various rotational positions of the closing cylinder when the cylinder core is actuated using a key. The closing cylinder has two key removal positions. The coupling slider is displaced in the angle thereof by turning the key between at least two rotational positions which correspond to the key removal positions. The coupling slider can be radially displaced in the direction of the rotational positions. At least one locking and controlling member is allocated to each of the rotational positions.

A hollow center hub (60) with mating internal splines (62) is disposed upon the adapter. A hub securing member (68) is screwed onto the adapter with a tapered interface (64) and (80) engaging the center hub. A keyed lock (88) or flat headed screw (90) is imbedded into an enclosure (82) within the hub securing member and one or two balls (106) are forced into a groove (46) in the adapter by rotation of flats (84) when the lock or optional screw is rotated by a key or special tool. The hub securing member is screwed on or off by a separate tool mating with the polygon shaped raised outside portion or struck with a blunt instrument in the extending arm embodiment. The splined hub adapter remains attached to the vehicle after the wheel is removed. The wheel may be the spoked type or solid with the center hub integral with the outer rim (40).
