  • Patent number: 11755987
Abstract: An online concierge system displays an interface to a user identifying an estimated time of arrival for an order. To generate the estimated time of arrival for the order, the online concierge system trains a prediction engine to predict delivery time based on a predicted selection time for a shopper to select the order for fulfillment and predicted travel time for the shopper to deliver items of the order to a location identified by the order. The online concierge system generates a policy optimization model that computes an adjustment for the predicted delivery time. The adjustment is determined by solving a stochastic optimization problem with a constraint on a probability of the order being delivered after the estimated time of arrival. The predicted delivery time combined with the adjustment determines the estimated time of delivery displayed to the user to balance between minimizing late deliveries and wait times.

  • Patent number: 11727521
Abstract: A control circuit obtains a first set of rules that define a conveyability range for containers as a function of conveyability constraints pertaining to an intermediary distribution facility. The control circuit also accesses conveyability constraint information for the intermediary distribution facility and generates a conveyability range for that facility by evaluating the constraint information against the first set of rules. The control circuit obtains a second set of rules that define an objective function that uses the conveyability range as a constraint to determine an optimal container pack size for the given item. (By one approach these teachings will also accommodate using at least two additional constraints, such as a so-called days-of-supply (DOS) constraint and a so-called pack-and-a-half constraint.) The control circuit then generates an optimal container pack size for the given item by evaluating the objective function against the conveyability range (and other selected constraints).

  • Patent number: 11699114
Abstract: Examples provide a system and method for managing non-notifying customer orders for pickup. An order manager component identifies orders received from customers that typically do not provide advance notification prior to arrival at an order pickup location. A prioritization component assigns a priority to each order based on a per-customer confidence level. Customers providing notification and new customers receive the highest priority. Non-notifying customers having consistent pickup times associated with a threshold minimum number of previous orders receive a second highest priority. Non-notifying customers having inconsistent pickup arrival times and/or fewer than the threshold number of previous orders receive lower priority. A routing schedule is generated for pre-staging the orders based on the assigned priorities, pre-staging area capacity, and/or bot capacity. Totes are moved to the prestaging area based on instructions provided in the routing schedule.

  • Patent number: 11699121
Abstract: The disclosure is generally directed to evaluating loading and unloading times of items in a vehicle. The vehicle may be equipped with an object-sensing mat placed in a cargo area and coupled to a computer configured to execute a timing evaluation module. A first change in weight or pressure is sensed when an item is either placed upon, or removed from, the object-sensing mat. An increase in weight or pressure indicates loading of the item on to the vehicle, and vice-versa. The computer can generate a timing prediction model based on processing sensor signals from the object-sensing mat and determining the amount of time taken for loading or unloading items from the vehicle. In one application, a timing prediction model may be generated for each customer of a goods delivery service and used for optimizing delivery operations.

  • Patent number: 11691649
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for dynamically re-routing a pick path to an alternate pick location in response to identifying a shorted product at a pick location. The dynamic decision to re-route an autonomous vehicle is based on completion scores representing a likelihood of completing order in an autonomous vehicle, a maximum remaining time, an additional pick time, and order priorities. Based on various weights for factors of the orders, a system may re-route the autonomous vehicle to fulfill a shorted order at an alternate location when no orders have a high likelihood of completion, the additional pick time associated with re-routing the autonomous vehicle to the alternate pick location is less than the maximum remaining time for each order on the autonomous vehicle, and/or none of the orders on the autonomous vehicle have a higher priority than the shorted order.
