Abstract: A producer node may be included in a hierarchical, tree-shaped processing architecture, the architecture including at least one distributor node configured to distribute queries within the architecture, including distribution to the producer node and at least one other producer node within a predefined subset of producer nodes. The distributor node may be further configured to receive results from the producer node and results from the at least one other producer node and to output compiled results therefrom.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments fulfill searches and determine the validity of a large set of noisy facts and rank the set of facts according to a validity score. Embodiments construct a fact graph by linking together facts that share a common relation structure and entity or instance of an argument. Facts are re-ranked and validated using link analysis processes which propagate weight (validity/authority) through the fact graph. The resulting weights for each fact are potentially combined with other scores (such as from fact extraction algorithms) in order to come up with a final ranking of the facts.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and computing system for monitoring, via a monitoring server, attributes of computer systems in communication with the monitoring server. A graphical user interface may display selectable attributes of the computer systems monitored by the monitoring server. The computer systems may be sorted in a tree based upon, at least in part, one or more selected attributes of the computer systems monitored by the monitoring server.

Abstract: An integrity record is appended to data slices prior to being sent to multiple slice storage units. Each of the data slices includes a different encoded version of the same data segment. An integrity indicator of each data slice is computed, and the integrity record is generated based on each of the individual integrity indicators, and may be, for example, list or a hash of the combined integrity indicators. When retrieving data slices from storage, the integrity record can be stripped off, a new integrity indicator of the data slice calculated, and a new integrity record created. The new integrity record can be compared to the original integrity record, and used to verify the integrity of the data slices.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for processing data in relation to a user's availability. The data relates to one or more time slots identified as available or unavailable, each time slot having a start time and an end time as well as an availability status indicator. The scheme involves determining an earliest of start times and a latest of end times associated with the time slots, and storing only the earliest of start times and latest of end times for the user so as to condense the availability information on a user-by-user basis.

Abstract: Method and system for managing workloads in a cloud computing environment comprising cloud services providers is described. In one embodiment, the method comprises, for each of the cloud services providers, monitoring a situation of the cloud services provider to obtain situation information for the cloud services provider and evaluating the obtained situation information and then deploying an workload to a selected one of the cloud services providers based at least in part on results of the evaluating.

An example system to process unstructured data comprises a receiver to access a source of unstructured data, an entity extractor to extract entity instances from the source of unstructured data and organize the extracted entity instances into an entity instance table, a pattern generator to generate a pattern comprising a key entity and one or more non-key entities associated with the key entity based on the entity instance table, and a dataset generator to generate a two-dimensional table based on the pattern and the entity instance table.

Abstract: A Driver Risk Assessment System and Method Employing Selectively Automatic Event Scoring. The system and method provides robust and reliable event scoring and reporting, while also optimizing data transmission bandwidth. The system includes onboard vehicular driving event detectors that record data related to detected driving events, selectively store or transfer data related to said detected driving events. If elected, the onboard vehicular system will score a detected driving event, compare the local score to historical values previously stored within the onboard system, and upload selective data or data types to a remote server or user if the system concludes that a serious driving event has occurred. The system may further respond to independent user requests by transferring select data to said user at a variety of locations and formats.

Abstract: Provided are a method and an apparatus for predicting a preference rating for content, and a method and an apparatus for selecting sample content in order to predict a preference rating for the content. In the method of predicting a preference rating for the content, a list of users having similar preferences to a target user is extracted from content usage information collected with respect to the same content, and the target user's preference rating for the content is predicted by applying preference rating information of the users with similar preferences to a machine learning algorithm.

Abstract: A system and method for determining a similarity between a document and a query includes building a weight vector for each of a plurality of documents in a corpus of documents stored in memory and building a weight vector for a query input into a document retrieval system. A weight matrix is generated which distinguishes between relevant documents and lower ranked documents by comparing document/query tuples using a gradient step approach. A similarity score is determined between weight vectors of the query and documents in a corpus by determining a product of a document weight vector, a query weight vector and the weight matrix.

Abstract: A distributed, high availability scalable task execution framework that does not use a master. Each server periodically checks if there are new jobs that are scheduled to execute immediately and picks a task for execution. Multiple batch server configurations can be created and executed during a specific time period where each server can behave differently to provide improved response time to online users. Each server can be configured to execute a different number of parallel tasks during a time period, execute fewer tasks or no batch task at all, and then change server behavior to execute many tasks in parallel at a different time when there are no online users. Automatic transaction assists in task restart in the case of infrastructure failures. If infrastructure failure happens before the task completes, the transaction will be rolled back by the database automatically.

Abstract: A system and method to search for items characterized by Japanese text using a mobile device. The search system receives keyed user input and converts the input into a set of search terms. After generating search terms, the system searches Japanese text fields for matching items accessible by the mobile device. One or more natural starting points in the text fields are identified for each matching item. Starting points may include, for example, the beginning of a text field and the locations of punctuation or changes in character set in the text field. After determining starting points, the system determines the distance between the matching text and a starting point. The system then provides an ordered set of search results based on the calculated distance and potentially other factors, such as the alignment of the match and the type of item.

Abstract: An approach is provided in which facts are received and then one or more atomic fact trust analyses are performed on the facts. The atomic fact trust analyses result in various atomic trust factor scores. Composite trust analysis is performed using the atomic trust factor scores. The composite trust analyses result in composite trust factor scores. The atomic trust factor scores and the composite trust factor scores are stored in a trust index repository that is managed by a trust index framework. A request is then received for trusted data, the request being from an information consumer. The trust index framework then retrieves one of the composite trust factor scores from the trust index repository, with the retrieved composite trust factor score corresponding to the trusted data request, and this the retrieved composite trust factor score is provided to the information consumer.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a document retrieval apparatus for retrieving the desired data from a structured a document file. The apparatus holds index information in which a tag set including tags that are in a hierarchical relation with each other, is associated with one or more of positions of which path expressions include the tag set, in a structured document file. When receiving an input of a partial path expression, the apparatus specifies a position where the tag set included in the partial path expression is present as part of a path expression of the position, as a candidate position for a position to be retrieved, with reference to the index information.

The service product provides a service, with which objects can be identified. The object to be identified is positioned, the user device is connected to the service and the service fetches information on the basis of the position of the object and its characteristic(s) from a database. The user device presents the characteristic(s) of the object to be identified by sending a picture of the object to be identified to the service product, in which picture the service product reads the characteristics of the object and conducts additional searches in the database based on the characteristics read from the picture.

Abstract: A user of a computing device may see an item of interest she would like to remember for future reference. The user captures data of the item of interest and submits it to a memory enhancement service for enhancement and storage. The service submits the captured data to a human interaction task system which distributes the captured data to one or more human workers which to identify the item of interest, determine the user's interest in the item, and provide information regarding the item based on this determined interest. To facilitate the enhancement process, the user may add indications to the captured data prior to submission. Alternatively or additionally, the service may electronically submit queries to the user. The enhanced data returned from the human interaction task system is then stored by the memory enhancement service for subsequent recall by the user and possible use by the user.

Abstract: A process for evaluating and geocoding of GIS data elements utilizes a plurality of “locate” tests and a weighting scheme to express the match results as a multidimensional vector. Multiple inputs and data sources, as well as ambiguous and partial input data, are used to generate an output with improved precision by applying a weighting function to each input element and generating a set of test vectors (i.e., in the input data element weighted by the known accuracy of the element/source). A sum of a plurality of tests is then generated as the “characteristic vector” of the test set. By using two (or more) different sets of tests, two (or more) characteristic vectors are formed. Various well-known algebraic techniques can then be used to evaluate the results of each set of tests and select the “best match” result.

Abstract: One embodiment of the invention sets forth a CAD application configured to perform quantity takeoff computations. The CAD application is further configured to organize a CAD drawing into a hierarchical representation of object families and associated object types, where instances of the object types represent drawing objects present in the CAD drawing. The CAD application is further configured to receive a selection of an object family and to parse the selection to determine the object types associated with the selection. The CAD application then creates a takeoff object for each of the object types associated with the selection and identifies instances, associated with object properties, of each of the object types of the selection. The CAD application quantifies the instances and associated properties to produce a quantity takeoff value. Advantageously, users are able to more quickly and easily estimate the cost of a design project associated with the CAD drawing.

Abstract: A system and article of manufacture for managing query results and, more particularly, for sorting data records contained in a query result obtained in response to execution of a query against a database. In one embodiment, the data records in the query result are sorted on the basis of related information which is retrieved from a corresponding data source. In another embodiment, the sorting is performed on the basis of a value variance which is determined for each of the data records in the query result. In still another embodiment, the sorting is performed on the basis of a requested value range coverage. Abstract: A client tracking mechanism has a log file analysis routine that may generate two tables, one having a licensable entity designator and last logged off time, and the other having a current session designator. The first table may be aggregated by a server that may collect data from multiple client tracking mechanisms to determine a licensable entity's sessions across multiple servers. The client tracking mechanism may save and resume analysis from the last analyzed log file entry, and may be able to track sessions that are both shorter and longer than the time between each analysis. In many embodiments, a licensable entity may be a user or a device, when a license arrangement is configured in a per-user or per-device basis.

Abstract: A method for reducing the size of a DFA associated with a regular expression separates the functions of locating subexpressions within the DFA and determining if the located subexpressions satisfy a regular expression. For example, the functions of (1) locating subexpressions in a range asserting expression and, (2) determining whether the subexpressions satisfy the range of the range asserting expression are partitioned. In one embodiment, a first component may locate the subexpressions in a data stream using one or more DFAs, while a second component determines if the located subexpressions satisfy the range. In this embodiment, because the DFAs are not configured to determine a relationship between subexpressions, such as a range between subexpressions, the size of the resultant DFA may be significantly reduced.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for identifying one or more media items played within a geographic area selected by a user. In one embodiment, a media service tracks play histories for a number of users registered with the media service, where each play history identifies media items played by the corresponding user as well as the locations at which at least a subset of the media items were played by the corresponding user. The media service enables a requesting user to select or otherwise define one or more geographic areas of interest. Then, based on the play histories, the media service identifies one or more media items played within the one or more geographic areas of interest. The media service then provides data reflecting the one or more media items played within the one or more geographic areas of interest to a device of the requesting user.

Abstract: A method for organizing network flow information within a relational database relates to minimizing contention for the network flow information. In particular, data is generally aggregated at certain time intervals and separately organized. In this way, contention is decreased as analysis can occur on the separated existing flow records, which are optionally aggregated, while new raw flow records are stored. In another embodiment, the aggregated data can be re-aggregated at second, larger time intervals.

Abstract: A new continuous query to a data stream management system (DSMS) may use several operators that are equivalent to operators currently being used by continuous queries that have been previously registered in the DSMS. To determine equivalence of operators, the DSMS checks at least the function and the data input to the operators. On finding equivalence, the DSMS modifies a global plan being executed, to use at least an existing subtree of operators during execution of the new continuous query, to generate a modified plan. The DSMS is also programmed to cause each relation source operator (which outputs a relation) to propagate a current state of the relation to each operator newly coupled to the relational operator. After propagation of current state to newly-coupled operators, each operator in the modified plan processes any new data and supplies the result to all operators coupled thereto, including newly-coupled operators and existing operators.
