Abstract: A discriminative feature set (DFS) selection method is described wherein a forward wrapper framework and a self error-correction concept are used. In this approach, the first feature is selected using a statistical measure. After that, the feature that aims to correct the errors made by the current feature set is selected using a measure called correction score (CS) and is subsequently added into the feature set. This error-corrective feature-adding process stops until a required number of features are included into the DFS or a pre-defined accuracy is achieved. According to different levels of error correction, this method has three derivatives for different tasks and data. The speediness and adaptability of this approach make it efficient and effective for high-dimensional discriminative feature selection.
Abstract: Systems and methods for processing an index are described. In one exemplary method, a 2-level term table and postings table is used to generate postings lists. The postings lists are optimally stored in a postings file. Update sets for an index are optimally processed to update a index to a storage medium using flushing.

Abstract: An electronic collection bin is provided for assisting users in managing their personal information. The electronic collection bin provides a common location for collecting and organizing a user's information. The electronic collection bin may receive information items of varying data types and from disparate sources. After receiving an information item, the electronic collection bin analyzes the item to determine a suggested treatment, which may include conversion of the item to a new data type located at another location. A user may access the electronic collection bin, sort through the information items, and select placement of the information items. The user may view the suggested treatments of information items in the electronic collection bin and choose whether to accept the suggested treatments.

Abstract: Fetching an ordered first N rows of a table, includes: reading a row in the table; determining that the read row qualifies as the first N rows of the table for rows read so far, and storing data of the read row; and determining an order of data of qualifying rows and storing the order. Only data in rows that qualify to be among the first N rows are ordered and stored. This provides a significantly more efficient processing. It eliminates tournament tree sorts, corresponding work file read and write I/O's, and associated CPU time. This reduces the time for the running of a query and improves the performance of other applications sharing the use of work files. Further, the improved performance is particular significant when the buffer sizes are within a page of records or rows, although multiple pages may be used.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a plurality of test data items are grouped to form a plurality of test data entries. The test data items include both test results and test result identifiers, and each of the test data entries includes at least one of the test results and one of the test result identifiers. The test data entries are sorted in accord with one or more of the test data items found within the test data entries, and a dynamically updated range of the sorted test data entries is displayed via a sorted table of a graphical user interface (GUI). At least one sort mechanism is provided via the GUI. The at least one sort mechanism enables a user to change the one or more test data items via which the test data entries are sorted. Other embodiments are also disclosed.
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates improved navigation through a list. During operation, the system obtains a list, wherein the list includes a set of list-entries. The system then analyzes the list to determine a set of list-properties for the list. Next, the system associates a set of identifiers with the list based on the set of list-properties. Then, the system inserts the list into a list-box. The system also inserts the set of identifiers into a scrollbar associated with the list-box, thereby enabling a user to navigate to a subset of the list by selecting an identifier which corresponds to the subset from the scrollbar.

Abstract: A method and system are described for centrally managing data in an adaptive clinical trial or other adaptive process that is conducted at a plurality of geographically remote sites. The invention includes (1) flexible means for collecting data from remote sites; (2) processing, tracking, and validating such data and meta-data at a processing location; (3) interacting between central and remote sites to manage and resolve data discrepancies (4) reporting data to managers and remote sites; and (5) facilitation of special services to clinical research such as flexible randomization of patients, patient participation eligibility verification and double-blind trials. The invention is of particular relevance to adaptive clinical trials and other applications that demand the ability to quickly collect, process, and respond to various forms of data in order to adjust actions such as randomization schedules, interim analyses, treatment arm pruning, editing subpopulations, and other adaptive measures.
Abstract: In a method of preserving characteristics of desensitized database information for use in database management system benchmarking, at least one column of sensitive data from a database is accessed. The at least one column of sensitive data is sorted into a sorted data representation. Desensitized data is generated by sequentially mapping ascending different values of the sorted data representation to ascending desensitized values generated according to a strictly monotone increasing randomly generated function. The mapping results in a plurality of mapped desensitized values which are associated with the sorted data representation. The mapped desensitized values are unsorted into a desensitized database according to sorting information related to the sorted data representation. As a result of the unsorting, cardinalities of the at least one column of sensitive data are maintained within the desensitized database.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for processing document data, wherein the document data comprises at least one page in order and the page comprising at least one layer in order, the method comprises: managing and controlling the at least one layer respectively. The technical scheme of the present invention enables process a document on layers in the docbase management system and provides more flexible document processing.
Abstract: This invention provides a system method for search and displaying text-based documents, based upon user-input search terms that organizes and displays documentary search results in a series of clusters of documents that have been sorted in a manner that relates to the general relevance of those documents to the search terms. In particular, this system and method allows for the searching of large databases of related documents by utilizing citations between those documents to improve search efficiency as well as visualization of search results. The document databases (DD) are used to generate a document connectivity index (DCI), of which a copy is stored on (or remotely accessed by) the client computer. The client issues a search request to a DD server, which returns a list of matching documents. The client compares this list against the DCI to generate a sorted list of document clusters. Using a graphical interface, the user can view and navigate these clusters to identify and view documents of interest.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of formulating a list of advertisements in an advertisement service. The method comprises analyzing a web content so as to identify a plurality of keywords therefrom, and retrieving data of a plurality of advertisements, each of which is associated with one of the plurality of keywords and is presently subject to an advertising service. The method further comprises processing the data of the plurality of advertisements so as to identify two or more advertisements that are associated with the same advertiser and further processing data of the two or more advertisements so as to identify at least one qualified advertisement for disfavoring in the advertising service. The method further comprises ordering at least part of the plurality of advertisements to display along with the web content such that the at least one qualified advertisement is disfavored in the ordering.

The facility is accessible to provider processes using a set of provider interface methods. The facility is accessible to consumer processes using a set of consumer interface methods. The tree data structure is defined by nodes stored in shared memory and attached to by way of a defined data structure made available to the provider and consumer interface methods. The nodes in the tree data structure are defined to have a control block and a variable set of export data. The export data for any one node is specified by a variable in the control block. Certain of the exported data in the tree is representable in a format selected to have one of four defined properties.
