Abstract: A method for producing a, in particular thin-walled, pipe conduit element with a surface structure reinforcing the pipe conduit element is proposed wherein the pipe conduit element continuously passes by at least one embossing element guided about the periphery of the jacket thereof and the surface structure is embossed onto the jacket of the pipe conduit element by the embossing element using pure mechanical pressure. For embossing the surface structure onto the pipe conduit element, an arrangement of preferably several embossing elements, in particular balls or rollers are used which are distributed about the periphery of the pipe conduit element jacket. The invention also concerns a device for producing a surface structured pipe conduit element using a guidance having embossing elements and which can be rotated about the periphery of the jacket of a pipe conduit element continuously supplied to the device.

Abstract: A device for preparing pipe segments for joining with mechanical pipe fittings in a piping network is disclosed. The device has a fixed support with support surfaces engageable with the pipe segment, and a movable support, facing the fixed support, on which tools, such as grooving rolls, chamfering rolls, marking rolls and cutting blades are rotatably mounted. The tools engage the outer surface of the pipe to form a circumferential groove, a marking pattern, a chamfer or a cut through the pipe when the movable support is moved toward the fixed support. A collar or cup having a circumferential side wall sized to receive the pipe is mounted on the fixed support adjacent to the support surfaces and radially reinforces the pipe to prevent it from collapsing or going out of round during groove formation.

A longitudinal base mounts a stabilizer block which in turn mounts a high speed shaft or spindle, the spindle extends through a head having a camming surface and mounts a tooling assembly at its distal end. A motor drives the spindle at high speeds. A workpiece is placed in a tool holder mounted on the base adjacent the head. A first drive cylinder moves the stabilizer block and the tooling assembly to a correct axial position adjacent the workpiece. A second drive cylinder moves the head to cam the tooling assembly to drive the tools to perform the desired tooling operation.

  • Patent number: 5353619
Abstract: An apparatus and method for necking tubular members such as cans utilizes an inner die that expands to support a neck portion to be formed by an outer die that travels around the neck. The inner die has a plurality of first die elements which may be retracted after the neck is formed so that the inner die may be removed. Selected ones of these first die elements nest with the others in the retracted state. Drive assemblies operate each of the inner and outer dies, and the drive assembly for the inner die operates to differentially drive the first die elements to allow nesting to occur. Preferably, the inner drive assembly employs a reciprocally retracting cam, and the first die elements have cam followers to allow reciprocation. A wedge cam can be used to support the first die element sin the expanded configuration, and a wedge drive moves the wedge cam into and out of position.

  • Patent number: 5291769
Abstract: A plurality of profile rolls which are revolving are radially inwardly pressed against the peripheral surface of an end portion of a pipe to be formed so that a suitable profile is plastically formed on the end portion of the pipe. Each of the profile rolls is rotatably carried by a shaft at the distal end of a swing assembly whose proximal end is pivotably mounted to a pivot shaft on a rotary assembly which is rotatable. A cam follower on the distal end shaft of each swing assembly is forced by a cam laterally so that the rotary assemblies are rotated, resulting in radially inward displacement of the profile roll. Thus, the apparatus is compact in size, easily operable at a working site and reliable in operation.

  • Patent number: 4930326
Abstract: A manual crimping apparatus for attaching a ferrule to the end of a hose includes a pair of facing die carriers each having a pair of spaced carrier plates and a respective pair of roller dies coupled thereto and positioned therebetween. All of the carrier plates are identical in size and configuration. Moving the two die carriers toward one another positions the four roller dies about and in tight engagement with the outer periphery of a ferrule. With the rotational axes of each of the roller dies not aligned with the ferrule's longitudinal axis, rotational displacement of the crimper about the ferrule causes the roller dies to travel about the ferrule in a spiral path permitting virtually any length of the ferrule to be crimped in intimate contact with the hose. A spiral groove in the outer periphery of each of the roller dies further promotes displacement of the crimper along the length of the ferrule.

Abstract: A roller burnishing device for sizing and/or finishing the external surface of a workpiece having a circular sectional contour by causing a relative rotation between the workpiece and a plurality of truncated conical rollers arranged within a head having a truncated conical inner surface. In this device, the head is made nonrotatable and instead a hollow cylindrical cage supporting the rollers within the head is driven in rotation to rotate the rollers at a high speed and the rollers are caused to orbit by driving the cage in low speed rotation thereby causing the rollers to make a planetary motion within the head.

  • Patent number: 4453304
Abstract: A method of producing a multi-ply metal bellows wherein the plies are telescoped together to form a multi-ply tube and annular grooves are inwardly rolled in the multi-ply tube at spaced intervals therealong while the tube is supported internally on either side of the grooves, as they are rolled, and is held against substantial deformation. Crest and root constraining dies are assembled around the multi-ply tube and in the grooves and then the tube is pressurized internally, while the dies are pushed together, so that the undeformed portions of the tube bulge outwardly into the dies. The bellows is then completed by removing the dies and putting spacing shims in between the bulged convolution crest portions and then pushing the ends of the tubes until the shims are lightly held between the bulges.
