  • Patent number: 8381559
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention discloses a method for operating a mill train, in particular used in a cold-rolling mill. The mill train includes operating rolls with a roll gap disposed in-between through which a rolled strip is guided. With the method of at least one embodiment, the thickness and the roll-in speed of the rolled strip are measured in front of the roll gap. The roll-out speed of the rolled strip after the roll gap is reconstructed with the aid of the tangential speed of the operating rolls. The thickness after the roll gap is then determined with the aid of the thickness and the roll-in speed in front of the roll gap and the reconstructed roll-out speed.

Abstract: A cold-rolling train has a plurality of rolling stands and a strip feeding device to which an initial setpoint speed is sent to feed the cold strip to the first stand at an initial actual speed corresponding to the initial setpoint speed. A first setpoint speed is sent to the first stand so that associated rolls rotate. Between the first and next passed-through rolling stand is a thickness detection device detecting a first actual thickness. A base output signal is determined using the first actual and setpoint thicknesses and is used to adjust the first setpoint speed, but not the initial setpoint speed, conforming the first actual to the first setpoint thickness. Between the feeding device and the first rolling stand is an initial thickness detection device detecting an initial actual thickness. The initial setpoint speed is adjusted by a initial feed-forward controller to adjusted a setpoint product mass flow.

  • Patent number: 7748247
Abstract: A method regulating flatness of a metal strip at a roll housing output including at least one dynamic flatness actuator. A rolling process characterizes flatness of the strip by measuring a quantity D in n points distributed across the strip width, from n measurements of the quantity D. Then, using an action model of flatness regulation and an optimizing method, an overall setpoint including at least one elementary setpoint is determined for the dynamic actuator, such that a calculated flatness residual defect criterion is minimal, and executing the overall setpoint. The action model on the flatness used for determining the overall setpoint includes, for the dynamic actuator, as many submodels as there are points for measuring the quantity D characteristic of flatness, each submodel enabling the effect of the dynamic actuator on the quantity D to be calculated at the corresponding point when a setpoint is applied thereto.

  • Publication number: 20070227214
Abstract: Quality of a wire or rod is controlled in a rolling mill having a succession of roll stands spaced apart in a workpiece-travel direction by a method having the first step of, before rolling a wire or rod, statically measuring a sample of at least one wire or rod with typical real roll flaws and storing the flaw data in standard format in a control computer. A single cross-sectional shape or, if there is noise, an average of a plurality of averaged cross-sectional shapes are stored standardized as polar coordinates. During actual rolling of a wire or rod its actual-shape is continuously measured and actual-shape data is generated. A similarity analysis is continuously effected by comparing the flaw data in standard format with the actual-shape data of the wire or rod being rolled. When the actual cross-sectional shape data corresponds to the flaw data, an alarm is generated.

  • Patent number: 6983631
Abstract: The invention relates to a mill train (1) for milling a strip-type product to be milled (10). Said mill train comprises a number of roll stands (2) which are successively arranged in a milling direction (x) and which can be respectively pivoted about a rotational axis (18) which is essentially perpendicular to the milling direction (x). The aim of the invention is to maintain a belt run which favors a pre-determined milling result, in an especially simple and reliable manner. According to the invention, a control value (S) is pre-determined for the pivoting angle of a roll stand, or of each roll stand (2), according to the determined contour of the strip end (30) of a product (10) which has already been milled. According to the invention, additional control elements can also be used.
