Abstract: An extendable tool having an internal drive assembly is disclosed. The extendable components of the internal drive assembly are two, or more, telescoping drive shafts each having an alignment structure. The alignment structure ensures that the drive shafts generally maintain their circumferential alignment relative to each other, i.e. the shafts rotate together and maintain their orientation, while allowing the drive shafts to slide axially relative to each other. In one embodiment the drive shafts have a non-circular cross-section, and more preferably, a square cross-section. Each inner drive shaft has a cross-sectional area that is slightly smaller than the next larger outer drive shaft. Thus, the drive shafts may slide axially relative to each other. However, when the drive shafts are rotated, the non-circular shape causes the inner drive shaft and the larger outer drive shaft to engage each other and rotate together.

Abstract: A control console for a machine having a seat with a plane of symmetry is disclosed. The machine also has an armrest extending from the seat in a forward direction generally parallel with the plane of symmetry. The armrest has an upper surface intended to support an operator's forearm. The control console includes a base operatively connected to the armrest, and at least one operator interface device operatively connected to the base. The at least one operator interface device has a neutral axis inclined at an oblique angle relative to the upper surface of the armrest. The at least one operator interface device is pivotal in a fore/aft direction to initiate only a single function of the machine, the fore/aft direction being rotated outward away from the seat a predetermined angle relative to the forward direction of the armrest.

Abstract: An accelerator operating device including a body fixed to a handlebar; an accelerator lever supported on the body so as to rotate freely around a predetermined axial line and that rotates between a close position and a maximum open position; a first return spring that returns the accelerator lever to the close position; and a load generation mechanism that generates a load on a rotational operating force of the accelerator lever by frictional resistance. The load generating mechanism includes a rotational slider arranged to freely rotate around the axial line that can be pressed and rotated by opening rotation of the accelerator lever; a slide receiving part formed in the body that allows the rotational slider to slide; a biasing spring that biases the rotational slider toward the slide receiving part; and a second return spring that returns the rotational slider to a rest position.

Abstract: An outboard motor includes a prime mover, a marine propulsion unit having a propeller arranged to be driven by a rotational force of the prime mover to generate a thrust force, a shift position changing mechanism, a shift position changing mechanism actuator, and a control unit arranged to control the shift position changing mechanism actuator. When the shift position is changed to one of the first shift position and the second shift position from the neutral position, the control unit inhibits a change in the shift position to the other one of the first shift position and the second shift position until a predetermined time period elapses. The above arrangement improves the controllability of a boat propulsion system having an electronically controlled shift mechanism.

Abstract: The mechanical interlock prevents inadvertent engagement of a control member. Rotation of the mechanical interlock about an interlock axis from a locked position to an engagement position allows the control member to rotate about a control axis. The mechanical interlock includes an interlock bracket that defines a guide path having locking and actuating segments that intersect at an acute angle, and a guide member that engages the guide path. One of the interlock bracket or the guide member is pivotally coupled to the control member about the interlock axis and the other is coupled to a handle. The guide path and the guide member are selectively positionable between a locked position where the guide member is proximate the locking segment, an engaged position where the guide member is proximate the intersection, and an actuated position where the guide member is proximate the actuating segment.
