  • Patent number: 8468911
Abstract: A feed apparatus has a ball screw, a nut, a drive motor, a braking mechanism and a controller and moves a movable body vertically. When recognizing a movement command for rapid traverse relating to the movable body, the controller, when the movable body is to be moved upward, moves the movable body past a target position according to the movement command and then reverses the moving direction thereof and moves the movable body to the target position and stops it there, and, when the movable body is to be moved downward, moves the movable body directly to the target position and stops it there. After moving the movable body to the target position and stopping it there, the controller causes the drive motor to keep the position of the movable body at the stop position and causes the braking mechanism to brake the movement of the movable body.

  • Patent number: 5297454
Abstract: A device for rotationally indexing an indexing table by utilizing a synchronized tap function of a machine tool main spindle. The rotation and the axial feeding displacement of the main spindle are in a specific synchronized relation. When the main spindle is fed forward, it engages an input shaft of the indexing device and thrusts it to retract against a spring force. Upon arriving at a retracted position of the input shaft, the main spindle starts rotation in one direction. Because of a one-way clutch between the input shaft and the indexing table, the rotation of the input shaft imparted by the main spindle is not transmitted to the indexing table. After a predetermined angular rotation and an axial feed, the main spindle is rotated in the reverse direction to be withdrawn axially. At this time the one-way clutch operates to transmit the reverse rotation to the indexing table. The indexing device is of compact construction and ensures accurate indexing.

Abstract: Independent control by a single motor of two members mounted on a shaft, e.g. print wheels in a printing machine such as a postal franking machine, is enabled by having the first member either fixed in rotation to the shaft or connected to the shaft by a one-way clutch, and having the second member connected to the shaft by a one-way clutch, the arrangement being such that rotation of the shaft in one direction causes movement of the first member only (by direct drive or by the action of the associated clutch) and rotation of the shaft in the other direction causes movement of the second member only, by the action of the associated clutch.

  • Patent number: 4646100
Abstract: An improved latch assembly which operates with a phased array radar antenna to fixedly retain the radar antenna in any one of several predetermined positions. The latch assembly comprises an elongated body member having a leading end section tapered to interfit into the detent means without jamming, a wedging member having a tapered wedge-like configuration which slidably interfits with the gradually tapered ledge of the body member, and a controllable spring-loaded actuating means operable to move the elongated body member and the wedge member into locking engagement with a predetermined detent and then to move the wedging member an additional small distance toward the predetermined detent, this causes the wedging member to be forced laterally an amount sufficient to contact the sides of the housing to effect a controlled wedging of the latch assembly in the housing to prevent any rotation of the radar antenna because of undesired clearances between the elongated body member and the housing.

  • Patent number: 4606244
Abstract: A workpiece indexing assembly which causes incremental rotation of a turntable from one work station position to another being actuated by a linearly translating driver. The mechanism includes an indexing hub having a number of radially spaced notches, a one-way clutch dog, a locking pawl and a driving dog. Upon retraction of the driver the driving dog becomes disengaged from one notch and is rotated until engagement occurs with another notch. Retraction also causes disengagement of the locking pawl. Rotation of the table is prevented during retraction by the one-way clutch. Upon extension of the actuator, the one-way clutch allows rotation. When the next work station position is reached, the locking pawl and the one-way clutch are reseated into hub notches. The driver is connected to the driving dog by a link featuring overcenter travel to insure firm locking of the turntable at a work station position.

  • Patent number: 4520595
Abstract: The invention relates to an automatic machine tool for machining workpieces, including a number n of workpiece receivers that can be adjusted in angular and/or spatial position and including an equal number n of work stations, one of said work stations being an exchange station, said receivers or stations being disposed at mutual angular separations of 360.degree./n on a rotatable index table, said stations or said receivers being locally fixed thereon and said index table being advanceable in such a manner that each workpiece traverses all stations in the same sequence. By applying the invention reliable and precise machining, coupled with simple construction should be achieved. This is made possible by the fact that the drive of the index table is controllable so that a sequence of (n-1) rotary steps by 360.degree./n in one direction is followed by a rotary step of 360.degree. (n-1)/n in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4189963
Abstract: An index apparatus for indexing a rotary table rotatably and vertically slidably received within a base, comprises a pair of coupling members secured to the rotary table and the base, respectively, and engageable with each other. The rotary table is lifted and lowered by a hydraulic actuator. The rotary table is rotated by a drive means including a drive motor. Generating means are provided to generate a signal each time the rotary table is rotated a unit angle. Control means are provided to reduce the rotational speed of the rotary table in response to the number of signals generated from the generating means, when the rotary table is rotated to a position spaced a predetermined angular distance from a desired angular position thereof. Control means also cause the rotation of the rotary table to stop in response to the number of signals from the generating means, when the rotary table is rotated to the desired angular position thereof.

  • Patent number: 4159658
Abstract: An economical rotary index table holds workpieces on machine tool beds and tables, changing rotational position in angular increments with precision. Accurate angular indexing is achieved by a curvic coupling with meshing radial teeth disengageably connecting an axially movable locking plate to the juxtaposed facing rotational worktable member, separate and apart from the drive system. An annular, axially expansible pneumatic chamber is employed to engage and disengage the curvic coupling teeth, alternately locking the worktable in the desired angular orientation, and unlocking it for angular indexing movement. In the preferred embodiment, the movable angular indexing apparatus of the present invention incorporates automatic counting means for precisely determining the degree of rotation and automatic stop means for preventing further rotation when the desired position has been reached.

  • Patent number: 4109552
Abstract: An indexing mechanism for the rotatable element of a machine tool wherein a shaft is coaxial with the element and has formed thereon a helicoidal groove. A control member is engaged in said groove and moves alternately therein to transmit an oscillating rotative movement to the shaft to effect go-and-back movements along the groove in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotatable element. A control cam effects go-and-back movements which are synchronized with the movements of the control member. A driving member is mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith and is capable also of axial movement between one position in which it is rigid with the element and a second non-rigid position. The axial movement of the driving member is controlled by the cam. Accordingly, during the go movements of the control member and of the cam, the driving member is rigid with the element.

  • Patent number: 4103569
Abstract: A programming cam indexing mechanism in which a rotatable programming cam, provided with a peripheral traction surface and a concentric inwardly facing track having one or more notches therein to define indexed programming positions, is rotatably driven by a capstan coupled with a drive shaft, the capstan being supported by a latch member pivotal on the drive shaft axis. The latch member is integrally formed to define a follower bracket and tab engageable with the inwardly facing track surface on the programming cam to hold the capstan in engagement with the peripheral traction surface thereof but to allow the capstan to swing away from driving engagement with the traction surface when the follower bracket tab drops into the positioning notches. A spring biasing means is provided by which the follower bracket tab is moved into the notches to latch the programming cam in any one of the indexed positions. Movement out of the notches is effected by solenoid activation.
