With Lock-disabling Means Patents (Class 81/320)
  • Patent number: 11267091
Abstract: Embodiments of a quill stop are disclosed. The quill stop can move between an open and closed position. The quill stop has a left and a right securing member, a locking element, a right arm, a left arm, and a left arm spring. The right arm can actuate the locking element out of engagement with a locking projection so that the right securing member and the left securing member can move relative to each other and allow a rod to be inserted between them. The locking element prevents unwanted actuation of the quill stop during operation.

  • Patent number: 8919228
Abstract: A gripping device with a precision ratcheting mechanism includes an upper and a lower arm, each terminating in a U-shaped receiver, connected by a pair of pivotal joints. A pawl device is pivotally connected to the U-shaped receiver of the upper arm, while a post, passing through the pawl device, is pivotally connected to the lower arm. The post contains a plurality of teeth on one surface and a teeth-engaging member in the pawl device contains a plurality of corresponding teeth which engage the teeth on the post. The teeth are disengaged by pressing a release surface, which compresses a spring and physically moves the teeth-engaging structure away from the post, allowing the post to move freely within the pawl device.

  • Patent number: 8683896
Abstract: Instrument handles isolate the functions of supporting the instrument and actuating controls on the instrument. An instrument handle may be grasped and supported by the less dexterous digits and palm of a human hand, and controls mounted on the instrument handle may be actuated by the more dexterous digits. The instrument handle may couple to an end effector so that the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder remain in a comfortable position when the end effector is positioned to act effectively on a selected portion of a workpiece, such as a surgical site.

  • Patent number: 7406897
Abstract: A clamping device includes two clamping members pivotally connected with each other and each having a first end and a second end, and a braking mechanism mounted between the second ends of the two clamping members to provide a stepless braking effect to the two clamping members. Thus, the braking mechanism provides a stepless braking effect to the two clamping members, so that the two clamping members are movable toward each other freely so as to shorten and adjust the open angle of the holding portion successively to hold a workpiece and are not movable outward relative each other to stop an outward movement of the two clamping members instantaneously so as to fix the holding portion to clamp the workpiece.

Abstract: A pair of locking pliers includes a first handle having a holed wall; a second handle pivotably secured to the first handle; a multi-sided link pivotably secured to a jaw of the second handle and including a shank passed through the wall; an L-shaped lever pivotably secured to the first handle and including a first portion disposed rearward of the wall, a projected second portion between the handles, and a multi sided aperture through the first portion with a rear end of the link passed through; and a spring put on the link and biased between the wall and the first portion. The link is locked in the aperture by disposing the first portion obliquely about the link. Pivoting the lever will compress the spring, unlock the pliers by disposing the link perpendicularly to the first portion, and pivotably push the first and second handles away from each other.

  • Patent number: 7107881
Abstract: A spring clamp includes a first and a second handle; a substantially L-shaped release link having an inner section transversely mounted in the first handle and an outer section located outside the first handle, and being pivotally turnably about a supporting point mounted in the first handle between the inner and the outer section of the release link; and a shaft having a front end fixedly connected to a movable jaw extended from a distal end of the second handle and a rear end obliquely extended through a hole on the inner section of the release link. To release the two handles of the spring clamp from an immovable position when clamping two workpieces together, a user needs only to downward push the outward projected outer section of the release link using one finger.

  • Patent number: 7105004
Abstract: Locking and releasing apparatus for operating a medical device includes a handle and a lever member coupled to the handle for grasping engagement by an operator. The lever member is moveable in opposite directions relative to the handle. A locking and release mechanism operably connects the lever member to a force transmitting member for operating the medical device at a location distant from the handle. The locking and release mechanism locks movement of the force transmitting member in one direction after movement of the lever member in a locking direction. The locking and release mechanism releases movement of the force transmitting member in the one direction after opposite movement of the lever member in a releasing direction. The lever member operates the locking and release mechanism for releasing the movement of the force transmitting member in the one direction substantially upon changing movement of the lever member from the locking to the releasing direction.

  • Patent number: 6973859
Abstract: Locking or expanding pliers (1) having two plier arms (4, 5) which arc joined to each other in the manner of a scissor-type joint. The arms forming grip sections (6, 7) on one end and clamping sections (12, 13) on the other end and being able to be locked in various clamping positions, whereby the clamping results from the elastic deformation of at least one of the two plier arms (4, 5) occurring when the plier arms (4, 5) are placed in a clamping position. A spring element (F) is arranged in the active area between the clamping section and the grip section in order to achieve improved proportioning of the clamping force, whereby both grip sections (6, 7) can be disposed on top of each other and placed in another locking position (19, 20), when both clamping sections (12, 13) are maintained in a distanced position (a), in order to increase clamping power.

  • Patent number: 6178855
Abstract: Self adjusting pliers for grasping a workpiece include first and second plier members each including a handle portion, a jaw portion, and an intermediate portion therebetween. The self-adjusting pliers include a first pivot pin about which the first and second plier members pivot permitting the jaw portions to converge on a workpiece and grasp the workpiece in response to initial movement of the handle portions toward each other. The self adjusting pliers further include a second pivot pin about which the pliers pivot once pivoting has been terminated about the first pivot pin so as to permit a further grasping force to be applied to the workpiece in response to continued movement of the handle portions toward each other. The second pivot pin is closer to the jaw portions than the first pivot pin to allow for a greater mechanical advantage to be obtained. The self adjusting pliers also include a biasing spring for biasing the handle portions away from each other and the jaw portions away from each other.

  • Patent number: 5803649
Abstract: A locking mechanism useful in various microsurgical, laproscopic and endoscopic surgical instruments includes a lock body which is linearly movable between a locked and an unlocked position, and a plate having a slot through which a linkage rod or the like passes. The slot includes a larger diameter portion through which a linkage rod or the like can freely pass when the lock body is in the unlocked position, and a relatively narrow section which restricts or prevents movement of the rod in one direction when the lock body is in the locked position. The slotted plate is free to pivot between an angle wherein the linkage rod is engaged by the edges of the narrow portion of the slot and thus wedged against movement, and a second angle wherein the rod is not engaged by the edges of the narrow portion of the slot, wherein by linkage rod can be moved through the lock body in one direction, but not in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 5176702
Abstract: Releasable ratchet mechanism for medical instruments such as endoscopic instruments are disclosed. The ratchet mechanism includes: a leaf spring with a locking barb which is located on a handle of the medical instrument; a ratchet on a lever arm of the medical instrument which lever arm is pivotally engaged to the handle; and a latch on the handle of the medical instrument. The latch on the handle engages and resiliently deforms the leaf spring to cause engagement of the locking barb in a groove of the ratchet when the latch is in a first position. When in a second position, the latch releases the locking barb from the ratchet groove. Preferably, the locking barb has an extending edge surface on an axis which is substantially parallel to the pivoting axis of the handle and lever arm, and the teeth of the ratchet have extending edge surfaces on axes substantially parallel to the extending edge surface of the locking barb.
