Abstract: An indexable tool includes a handle having a first prong formed with a first splined orifice and a second prong formed with a second splined orifice. An indexable body has a third splined orifice aligned with the first and second splined orifices. A splined coupling arrangement rotatably joins and selectively locks and unlocks the handle and the indexable body together. The coupling arrangement includes a push button, first and second adjacently disposed inserts, a retainer, a cap and a spring. In a locked position, the spring is biased to hold external splines of the first and second serrated inserts in common engagement with the first, second and third splined orifices to prevent relative rotation between the indexable body and the handle.

  • Patent number: 7225707
Abstract: The torque wrench with quick release gear set is a system having a rotary actuator drive unit, which is attachable to a planetary drive gear set by a quick-release cylindrical adapter and collar so as to provide quick interchangeability of gear sets without the use of tools. The rotary actuator actuates the planetary gear set by means of a drive shaft connection through the quick-release cylindrical adaptor to engage a corresponding input gear drive shaft. The rotary actuator may have a pistol grip handle that rotates 360° to provide a user with an ergonomically friendly tool. The planetary gear set contains axial thrust bearings between each planet carrier to reduce friction and increase stability. The planet carriers are made of single piece construction to provide increased gear set durability. Precision radial bearings keep the planetary carriers and annulus concentric.

  • Patent number: 6786114
Abstract: A hand operated device and method for assisting a user in driving the device's shaft to impart driving force to a fastener more than conventionally accomplished in a fixed period of time. The device has a first member and a second member gripped with the user's first hand, while a handle of the shaft is held with the user's second hand. The user then turns the second member in a first direction, while still gripping the first member, so as to rotate the shaft. Next, the user releases grip on the second member while rotating the first member in a second direction, freely, without the first member ever rotationally engaging the shaft. Simultaneously, the user grips and rotates the handle in the first direction so as to continue to rotate the shaft. The user then repeats the aforementioned steps to drive the shaft as desired so that the first member never rotationally engages the shaft.

Abstract: A tool for loosening or tightening vehicle wheels nuts using a multiplying torque. At one end of the main body there is a rotating shaft the other end sits on the ground to create a resistance platform. The rotating shaft has a nut socket on its end, which engages onto one of the wheel nuts. There is a lever arm parallel to the main body, connected perpendicular with a one directional ratchet system to the rotating shaft. The lever arms opposite end connects to a pry bar which rotates on a pin connected to the main body. When this pry bar is moved back and forth in a winching motion it causes the lever arm to go back and forth. This action in combination with the lever arm ratchet system will turn the rotating shaft in one direction creating multiplying torque on the wheel nut.

  • Patent number: 6253644
Abstract: A torque wrench interfaces with a one or more fasteners intended to be tightened or loosened and includes a main housing with two or more preset torque devices which establishes a torque range insuring that the fasteners will not be tightened neither too tight nor too loose. A drive shaft protrudes from the main housing and rotatably drives a drive gear disposed in the main housing in which when rotated, drives the geared torque devices positioned on either side of the drive gear. A helical spring connects two torque pistons and adjustably applies a regulated torque to the driven torque piston in response to movement of the drive torque piston. The torque pistons are in a torque piston casing and are connected by irregular opposing surfaces urged together by the helical spring that allow for the torque pistons to rotate in relation to each other in one rotational direction only and allows the preset torque device to be enabled only when tightening a fastener in the clockwise direction.

  • Patent number: 6223925
Abstract: A mechanism for selectively securing a cover to a flange of a pressure vessel. A plurality of such devices can be employed, using a plurality of studs that extend through matching openings in the flange and cover. A movable anchor plate or plates, also with holes through which each stud extends, is disposed adjacent to the flange or cover. The head of each stud will fit through its associated hole of the anchor plate (and into the opening of the closer one of the flange or cover) only if the anchor plate is properly oriented. When the anchor plate is so oriented, a piston head at the opposite end of the stud can be actuated away from the flange and cover to retract the stud head into the opening of the flange or cover. This protects the stud when the cover is disengaged from the flange. The stud can be biased in the opposite direction to permit the anchor plate to be reoriented into a position in which the stud head cannot pass through the anchor plate, so the stud can clamp the flange and cover together.
