  • Patent number: 5052257
Abstract: The balancing weights are hingedly mounted at their lower ends to link rods. These link rods are hingedly mounted to an extended section of first rods. At opposite ends the balancing weights are hingedly mounted to reversing levers that in turn are hingedly mounted to second rods. The first rods and the second rods are supported on a common eccentric sleeve. Accordingly, the drive of the balancing weights does not come from structural members of the machine which are directly mounted to the ram. Accordingly, no mass forces and oscillations of the balancing weights and of the structures driving same can be transmitted onto the ram. Conclusively, the moving sequence of the ram and accordingly the cutting or embossing action is no longer influenced detrimentally such that the quality of a respective product produced is improved.

  • Patent number: 5042336
Abstract: A control apparatus and method for progressively fracturing a workpiece from a material sheet in a press in which a ram is progressively advanced through the thickness of the material sheet in discrete steps, each of the discrete steps including an advance of the ram into the material sheet a predetermined distance less than the total thickness of the sheet, a stopping of the advance of the ram, a relief of the pressure built up in the press due to the pressurized advance of the ram and a subsequent advance of the ram through the material sheet. A distance measuring transducer generates an output indicative of the position of the piston of the cylinder and the ram during movement of the ram. A controller, in response to a stored control program and the output of the distance measuring transducer, controls the operation of fluid valves to supply pressurized fluid to the cylinder to reciprocate the ram.

  • Patent number: 5020407
Abstract: A form tool built to be used in a single station of a turret press machine for the sheet metal industry that comprises a punch body rigidly attached to an adjustable form tool head. The adjustable form tool head is quickly adjustable for different forming operations and for different material thickness. The depth of the forming or shaping operation is determined by the length of the punch head. This length is adjusted by lifting a spring loaded outer collar that is keyed to a hardened threaded punch driver. The length is increased or decreased by rotating the punch driver in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. The adjustment is made in small increments and permanently locked when the spring loaded collar is released and seated on two locking pins located on the punch head base.

  • Patent number: 4987794
Abstract: A pusher rod extends lengthwise through the eccentric shaft. An additional disk clutch is located inside of the flywheel, which disk clutch is connected to a shaft section, which engages the pusher rod via a screw thread connection. This allows the drive of the punching press to translatorically shift the pusher rod via the further disk clutch. The pusher rod operates the movement of a locking pin, which locks the eccentric shaft to the eccentric bushing by a corresponding translatoric movement. The pusher rod operates furthermore a braceable coupling disk which transmits the driving force from the eccentric shaft to the drive apparatus of the workpiece feed drive. In order to operate these control units when adjusting the stroke of the press it is merely necessary to operate the machine drive in one or the other sense of rotation causing a corresponding closing or opening of clutches and locking members.

The force exerted by the cylinder and toggle mechanism is not resisted either by return springs or the weight of the ram, thereby further maximizing the usable power of the power cylinder. Accordingly, one may reduce the cylinder size requirements for a given application. • Patent number: 4265156
Abstract: A shearing assembly and method of effecting shearing utilizing the same. Any tendency of further the edges of steel stock being cut to roll is eliminated by providing a male die cutting blade (which cooperates with a female die) having a pair of shelf members, one associated with each cutting blade side face, for engaging the edge of material being sheared during the shearing operation. An actuator element is operatively connected to the male die for moving the cutting blade in a given linear direction, the rolling preventing being accomplished by providing a control structure for positively controlling the length of the stroke of the actuator element and attached cutting blades so that at the limit of travel of the cutting blade in the given linear direction the shelf members are spaced apart from the female die a distance corresponding to the thickness of material being sheared. A plurality of die groups are mounted on a rotating wheel.

  • Patent number: 4228706
Abstract: An improved flying cut-off machine is disclosed of the type in which a ram is supported for swinging movement induced by a ram actuating mechanism so as to operate a cut-off die set to cut off lengths from an elongated workpiece continuously emanating from a tubing mill. The improvement comprises the provision of an adjustment member included in the ram actuating mechanism which is interposed between connecting rod end members, one of which is pivotally connected to a motor driven crank and the other pivotally connected to the swinging ram. The adjustment member comprises a shaft having oppositely threaded ends threaded into the connecting rod ends so that a length adjustment can be made to the connecting rod, which in turn provides a simultaneous adjustability feature to both the vertical stroke and shut height of the ram produced by the crank rotation so as to adapt the apparatus to variously configured die sets having differing shut heights and strokes.

  • Patent number: 4210047
Abstract: Interposed between the cutting surface and the pressure head is a magnetic die holder including base and die carrying sections, the former being mounted on a telescoping member which is pivotally connected to the head for vertical movement therewith and which permits movement of the holder in a plane parallel to the cutting surface. The base and die carrying sections are connected by a spring to permit the die carrying section to be vertically displaced with respect to the base section for accurate positioning of the die relative to the cutting surface. The die carrying section is also rotatable relative to the base section to permit orientation of the die at any angle with respect to the cutting surface. The die carrying section includes an electromagnet which retains the die thereon. Also located on the die carrying section are a pair of handle grips, each having a switch mounted thereon, both of which must be simultaneously actuated in order to initiate vertical movement of the pressure head.

  • Patent number: 4091698
Abstract: A rotary cutting blade control system which automatically varies the feed rate to maintain a constant material removal rate. The system senses the current in an electric motor driving the cutting blade and automatically adjusts the feed rate to maintain the motor current constant. The system adjusts a hydraulic valve in the hydraulic system operating the blade support to move the blade in or out whenever the current deviates from a standard which is set by the operator. The control system also includes a circuit for detecting when the load on the blade has dropped below a preset level indicating that the blade has completed the cut and automatically commands the hydraulic system to return the blade to a start position. An additional control circuit operating in conjunction with the no-load sensing circuit automatically produces a command to stop the blade close to the work piece to save time and motion when multiple cuts are being performed.
