By Varying Length Of Tool Stroke Patents (Class 83/530)
  • Patent number: 4080860
Abstract: A fluid piston actuated press is provided with a fixed portion, such as a die, and a plurality of movable portions, such as punches, which move reciprocally along paths which intersect the fixed portion. A plurality of levers, actuated by an actuating means, engage the movable portions to cause them to move along their paths intersecting the fixed portion.

  • Patent number: 4038124
Abstract: A microfiche having one or more frames to be deleted is mounted in accurate registration and alignment on a microfiche deck, and a light is energized in the deck underneath each frame of the microfiche to be deleted. The operator then moves a knife carriage mounted on an "X-Y" detented slide system and having a solenoid-operated knife blade, on top of the microfiche, to the proper position with respect to each frame to be deleted, and then energizes the solenoid to cut that frame from an adjacent frame on the same filmstrip. After each edge of the frame is cut, the operator uses a spatula to pry up an end of the frame which is then grasped and stripped off of the microfiche. After all of the unwanted frames are deleted, the microfiche is removed from the deck.

  • Patent number: 4020726
Abstract: A roll splitter apparatus is described for splitting a roll of paper or other sheet material using a cutter blade which moves substantially horizontally toward the roll core. A pair of generally horizontal extending holding arms are provided with hooks on the ends of such arms which engage a shaft extending through the core of the sheet roll to hold such roll while the cutter blade is moved radially inward toward the core to cut the roll. The cutter blade is driven by a fluid cylinder and has guide members which slide along the holding arms to guide the movement of such blade. The holding arms and blade are raised and lowered by means of another fluid cylinder in order to accommodate rolls of different diameter. A knife guard is provided which covers the cutter blade in its retracted position, such guard being raised and lowered by cams provided on the blade.

  • Patent number: 4018120
Abstract: A mat cutting device having a cutter carriage with tracks to guide the carriage in two right-angularly related directions with stops on the tracks to limit the movement of the carriage and removable attachments for the stops primary to change the limits that the stops would otherwise provide without moving the stops.

  • Patent number: 4004480
Abstract: A fluid piston actuated press is provided with a lever arm having multiple bearing means for transmitting and amplifying the force exerted by a piston to the movable parts of the press and work piece. A novel fulcrum bearing is provided which ensures that frictionally induced shearing forces are counteracted. This is achieved by allowing the bearing to reciprocate along an axis which is acute with respect to the stroke axis. Additional means are provided to adjust the degree of amplification and stroke of the movable part without altering the stroke of the fluid piston. A novel arrangement of component parts is described which allows easy accessibility to the work area and great flexibility of application.

  • Patent number: 3988954
Abstract: A shear comprising a frame, a fixed blade, a movable blade cooperating with the fixed blade to cut sheet material disposed therebetween, a hydraulic power cylinder for moving the movable blade upwardly and downwardly past the fixed blade, a lever for drivingly connecting the power cylinder to the movable blade, the lever being pivotally mounted upon the frame to provide oppositely extending lever portions, one pivotally connected to the movable blade and the other pivotally connected to the ram of the power cylinder, a roller journal mounted upon brackets to extend across the frame with the brackets selectively adjustably movable to position the roller, and springs for yieldably urging the movable blade against the roller. The power cylinder is controlled by a linkage and lever mechanism which moves the control member of a valve in response to the movement of a foot pedal as well as the movement of the lever which drivingly connects the power cylinder to the movable blade.

  • Patent number: 3948135
Abstract: A machine tool comprising a frame, a plunger mounted on the frame for carrying a work engaging tool, a way in said plunger for receiving a reciprocating ram, a punch block, a linkage for selectively inserting said punch block between the ram and the plunger so as to cause the ram to drive said plunger toward a work support, a bolt mechanism carried by said ram for selective operative engagement with said plunger to pull said plunger away from said work support only after said plunger has been driven toward said work support by said ram, camming surfaces on said plunger and said bolt for selectively disengaging said bolt from said plunger upon subsequent movement of said ram toward the work support, and a single stroke mechanism in said linkage to automatically withdraw said punch block after the driving of the plunger toward the work support whereby subsequent continued reciprocation of said ram will not drive said plunger unless said linkage is again actuated.

  • Patent number: 3945299
Abstract: A positioning apparatus includes a master hydraulic positioning cylinder having a relatively long stroke capability and a train of additively connected, short-stroke pneumatic control cylinders for controlling the length of stroke of the master cylinder and thus the positioning of a variable-position tool such as a band saw. One end of the cylinder train is connected by a feedback rod to an extensible portion of the master cylinder. A connecting rod connects the opposite end of the train directly to the spool of a three-position servo valve which controls the flow of hydraulic fluid to and from opposite sides of the master cylinder. When air pressure is admitted to a selected side of a selected control cylinder, at least a portion of the train shifts initially in a direction to move the servo valve to an operating position to begin stroking the master cylinder in a desired direction.

  • Patent number: 3933070
Abstract: A wedge actuated cutting and/or forming tool comprises a frame including spaced guide portions. A fixed platen is mounted on the frame and a movable platen is mounted on the guide portions of the frame for reciprocation toward and away from the fixed platen. A wedge is supported for lateral reciprocation with respect to a backup and thereby effects reciprocation of the movable platen. The wedge is driven by a hydraulic cylinder and switch means are provided for regulating both the separation between the movable platen and the fixed platen at the closest point and the total stroke of the movable platen. The frame further includes a hydraulic reservoir which receives a substantial quantity of hydraulic fluid. By this means the structure of the reservoir and the hydraulic fluid therein tend to stabilize the tool and dampen vibrations caused by the operation thereof.
