  • Patent number: 5136905
Abstract: A gasket punch and method for forming a gasket hole. The gasket punch is a single piece having a spherical head and a handle whereby the punch may be used to form gasket holes of various sizes up to the spherical head diameter with the gasket material on the machine part or platen and without the necessity of first forming an error prone pattern in the gasket material. The handle may have a diameter which is less than the spherical head diameter whereby the handle may be easily held and manipulated and the amount of material of which the punch is composed may be minimized. In order to provide a suitably small handle diameter without unnecessarily reducing strength and toughness, the gasket punch is preferably composed of forged steel.

  • Patent number: 5063983
Abstract: This invention relates to a router table comprising a horizontal platen having a central opening formed therethrough to receive a router bit. A fence is pivotally mounted on the platen to guide movements of a workpiece therealong for engagement with the router bit. The fence is thus adapted to be pivoted to a selected position on the platen. A scale is mounted along one edge of the platen to underlie an end of the fence. The operator can thus visually note the precise distance between the router bit and the fence when the fence is pivoted to a selected position on the platen. The fence and attendant components of this invention can be sold as an adapter kit to modify a conventional router table or work bench for use with the pivoted fence, and/or scale a micro-adjustment mounting block. A method for making a router table or adapting an existing router table to accommodate the pivoted fence is also described herein.

  • Patent number: 4779503
Abstract: A portable stand for cutting timber has a base, a vertical support structure mounted upon the base and defining with the base a first functional area for resting timber thereupon to be cut. On the opposite side of the vertical support structure there is defined with the base a second functional area for an operator to be located. A beam is mounted horizontally upon and parallel to the vertical support structure. A chainsaw mount is pivotally disposed upon the beam for removably receiving a chainsaw, the chainsaw mount adapted for movement along the axis of the beam. A clamp arm clamps onto timber disposed upon the first functional area for resting timber.

  • Patent number: 4751865
Abstract: A saw highly accurate, light weight guide assembly releasably attached to a portable power saw to provide the accuracy of a table saw while retaining the convenience of a portable saw. The saw includes a bidirectionally telescoping slide assembly having an outer track which attaches on one side to saw receiving base plate and an inner track which attaches on the other side to a guide arm and compass assembly. For ease of carrying the guide arm may be retracted while retaining a predetermined compass angle setting and the tracks may be secured together by a quick release latch. A set of ball bearings engages planar surfaces on the tracks to form a point contact which minimizes clogging while affording a smooth and easy yet stable sliding action for the two tracks.

  • Patent number: 4741370
Abstract: A woodworking apparatus comprises a support table having a flat, circular table surface, a first power driven cutting tool mounted below the table surface having a spindle adapted to project upwardly through an orifice in the center of the table surface, a second power driven cutting tool mounted off-center from the first cutting tool below the table surface and having a spindle adapted to project upwardly through an orifice in the table surface, a guide fence mounted above said table surface on a chord thereof, means for adjusting said guide fence relative to said cutting tools radially of the circular table surface between a position substantially central of the table surface diametral thereof to a retracted chordal position; and means for adjusting said guide fence angularly about the table surface, whereby the effective distance between the two cutting tools can be selectively adjusted by radial and angular adjustment of the said guide fence.

  • Patent number: 4741235
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for splicing a belt which includes a base to which the belt end is mounted, a holding device which is slidably mounted to move in a direction oblique to the longitudinal direction of elongation of the belt and cutting member means mounted on the holding device. In the preferred embodiment, the cutting member comprises a knife which may be attached to the holding device in one of two orientations, a first orientation of which is designed to enable the knife to trim off the belt end, and the second orientation of which is designed to enable the knife to split the belt end between the plies thereof. In the second orientation, the holding device includes a stepped configuration allowing the knife to be clamped at any one of a number of different elevations so that the splitting procedure may accurately be carried out between the desired plies.

  • Patent number: 4735245
Abstract: A worktable has a table top with a slot for reception of a saw blade of a hand-held circular saw when mounted below the table top. Two rip fences mounted on the table top are separately slidable in parallel adjusting slots for adjusting independently the position of each fence. A hole in the table top adjacent the middle of the saw blade slot accommodates a cutting tool of a portable router when mounted below the table top. A router guard may be pivotally attached to a raised support structure between the rip fences. A riving knife is adjustably mounted in alignment with the saw blade slot. A saw blade guard is pivotally mounted on the riving knife.

  • Patent number: 4733704
Abstract: A workbench which includes a workpiece supporting panel carried by a trestle. A clamping device rigidly attaches a manually operated machine tool to an underside of the supporting panel. The machine tool may, for example, be a circular saw, a compass saw, or a router. The supporting panel is provided with at least one cutout for accommodating a portion of the tool of the machine tool such as, for example, a saw blade or a cutter. To simplify the mounting of the manually operated machine tool on the underside of the supporting panel, the supporting panel is adapted to be pivoted from an operative position into a mounting position through an angle of 180.degree. with a locking device being provided for both rotational positions. A slot insert of a chippable material can be provided in the cutout to avoid the danger that pieces of hard metal will fly off the blade if the blade shifts sideways while sawing.
