Cam Or Eccentric Revolving About Fixed Axis Patents (Class 83/628)
  • Patent number: 5066352
Abstract: A gripper on a powered gantry, which moves longitudinally relative to a porous conveyor belt, pulls a selected length of a composite sheet material and its backing from a supply roll on a carrousel and past a cutter. After a segment has been cut, the gantry returns the gripper to pull the composite sheet and its backing from the supply roll while the belt moves the segment thereon to a desired position thereon. This continues until the belt supports a plurality of segments. The gripper gantry includes a marker to mark each segment on the belt. After marking is completed, a powered gantry moves to dispose a top film over the segments. A powered gantry, which has a cutter thereon, is then moved so that the cutter, which can move orthogonal to the motion of the gantry and also has its reciprocating cutting blades rotatable about a vertical axis, can cut one or more pieces of desired shapes from each segment. After cutting is completed, the segments are advanced from the belt through a separator.

  • Patent number: 5042345
Abstract: The vertically reciprocal upper blade assembly of a sheet metal squaring shear is activated in a substantially vertical path past a fixed lower blade by means of one or more reciprocal rotary hydraulic actuators. The output drive shaft of the hydraulic actuator(s) is connected to one or more drive straps by an eccentric cam which is keyed to the drive shaft and rotatably received within the straps. The horizontal gap between the upper blade and the lower blade is precisely controlled by suspending the blade supporting gib bracket from pins on the side walls of the apparatus housing and adjustably connecting the gib plate to the pins by eccentric cams. The gib mounting system also provides for adjusting the angle of the upper blade with respect to the lower blade. An improved hold down assembly limits the stroke of the hold down pins to maintain a slight clearance between the hold down pins and the bed surface at all times.

  • Patent number: 4987811
Abstract: A pair of guide bores in an electric punch support a pair of punching blocks aligned with, and movable into, respective punching holes in a main frame. Two operation arms are pivoted on respective holders and each is connected to one punching block to impart vertical motion thereto. Each operation arm includes a longitudinal guide groove therein. A pair of operation pins are driven in circular paths within the guide grooves to reciprocate the operation arms about their pivots. In the quiescent condition, the one of the guide pins lies at the end of its guide groove, whereas the other guide pin lies about in the middle of its guide groove. A guide concavity at the end of the guide grooves accepts its respective operation pin, whereby the associated operation arm rests at a different rotational position than it would if the guide concavity were omitted. A spring provides a restoring force on the punching block associated with the guide concavity.

  • Patent number: 4987794
Abstract: A pusher rod extends lengthwise through the eccentric shaft. An additional disk clutch is located inside of the flywheel, which disk clutch is connected to a shaft section, which engages the pusher rod via a screw thread connection. This allows the drive of the punching press to translatorically shift the pusher rod via the further disk clutch. The pusher rod operates the movement of a locking pin, which locks the eccentric shaft to the eccentric bushing by a corresponding translatoric movement. The pusher rod operates furthermore a braceable coupling disk which transmits the driving force from the eccentric shaft to the drive apparatus of the workpiece feed drive. In order to operate these control units when adjusting the stroke of the press it is merely necessary to operate the machine drive in one or the other sense of rotation causing a corresponding closing or opening of clutches and locking members.

  • Patent number: 4879935
Abstract: A cutter in which a reciprocating knife is driven by an eccentric mechanism. The knife has a drive portion that flexes laterally in a plane perpendicular to the drive axis of the eccentric mechanism. The eccentric drive axis is offset along the perpendicular plane away from the axis on which the knife reciprocates. The offset of the eccentric drive axis allows the flexible drive portion to be kept straighter during the downstroke than in previous cutters. The increased straightening provides greater columnar strength and reduces deflection and stress of the drive portion during the time the knife is in compression. During the upstroke the knife is bent to a greater degree than in the previous cutters, but during this time the knife is in tension, the tension forces opposing rather than aiding the bending. The offset therefore provides for a longer service life for a blade of equal size or allows a reduction in size and mass of the knife to maintain an equivalent service life.

  • Patent number: 4376401
Abstract: A flying ram cutoff machine for severing successive lengths of an elongated workpiece continuously moving in the direction of its longitudinal axis employs a bevel gear drive for swinging a ram in synchronization with movement of the workpiece. A motor drive fly wheel and clutch assembly power a drive shaft which extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the workpiece, at the rear of the machine. A pair of bevel gears disposed at spaced locations along the drive shaft form power take-offs for transmitting power from the drive shaft to a pair of input shafts which extend perpendicularly away from the drive shaft and toward the swingable ram. A pair of crank assemblies couple the input shafts with the ram to produce swinging movement of the ram upon rotation of the drive shaft. Backlash of the drive system is controlled by interposing a stabilizing spacer between one of the bevel gears and a stationary support.

  • Patent number: 4355558
Abstract: The invention relates to a pair of shears for shearing sheet metal. Known shears, for example power shears, require relatively great forces, which cannot be produced except by special gear means. For rendering it possible to manually shear even relatively thick sheets, according to the invention it is proposed that the movable blade (22) of the shears is connected to a drive mechanism (13,15,17) and is located above the stationary blade (6) of the shears in its starting position for shearing, and that the drive mechanism is supported in the stand (1) of the shears for vertical movement, whereby the dead load of the drive mechanism and of the movable blade is utilized by gravity action for the shearing work.

  • Patent number: 4257295
Abstract: Apparatus for the high speed automatic cutting of measured lengths of a multiplicity of materials in which the material is guidingly fed from a supply source centrally of a feed path by a pair of adjustable feed rollers driven by a stepping motor that measures the length of material to be cut in terms of the cumulative steps of the stepping motor, and in which a reciprocable cutter knife is actuated in each cutting operation by a controlled single revolution of a connected drive shaft. A presser member supported for movement with the cutter knife engages the material in advance of the cutting blade and holds the material during cutting. The feed rollers are adjustable to a preset operative position and are spring urged to this position, but are arranged for independent manual movement to a wider separation of the rollers than in the preset position. The urging spring is also adjustable to vary its effective urging force.

  • Patent number: 4103576
Abstract: A cross-cutting shear of the type where the nip formed between the blades travels in the direction of movement of the material being sheared is driven by a single crankshaft. The upper blade is attached to the crank portion of the crankshaft, and the sliding motion of the blade-carrying carriage is provided by cam discs mounted on the crankshaft and acting against rollers in a stationary frame. The crankshaft is journalled at each end in links pivotally attached to the bottom part of the blade carriage. The guide links are free to pivot independently of the blade carriage. By this construction, reaction loadings are prevented from being transmitted through to the stationary housing, when a shearing action is taking place.
