  • Patent number: 4099433
Abstract: Apparatus for providing adhesive strips having a predetermined length includes a rotatable reel for support of a roll of adhesive tape. A conveyor, which may be a rotatable turn table, is provided for supporting thereon a plurality of adhesive strips which have been cut to a predetermined length from the roll of adhesive tape. A feed member is pivotably supported adjacent one end thereof for movement between a first position adjacent the reel and a second position adjacent the conveyor. The feed member carries a stationary cutter plate and a cutter bar which is reciprocable therealong and is cooperable with the cutter plate to cut adhesive tape withdrawn from the reel into strips of the predetermined length. The feed member carries at its outer end a latch plate for selectively grasping and retaining the free end of adhesive tape withdrawn from the reel. A lever rod is carried by the feed member and is movable longitudinally thereof and is operably connected to the latch plate.

  • Patent number: 4079647
Abstract: Apparatus for use with a pair of thermoplastic strips of the type illustrated in U.S. Pat. No. 3,608,117 wherein one strip is formed with studs longitudinally spaced at intervals and a second strip apertured and counterbored at the same intervals is used to bind sheets apertured at the same intervals at locations spaced inward from one marginal edge is described. A pressure bar is first manually moved to operative position and a handle compresses the strips together by exerting a controlled force on the pressure bar. The handle then initiates movement of a support for a knife consisting of a length of metallic ribbon material having spaced horizontal stretches in horizontal alignment with excess stud lengths of the first strip projecting through the second strip, the ribbon being under tension to hold such stretches taut. As the support moves toward the studs a current is passed through the ribbon, heating it so that the ribbon functions to cut off the excess stud length slightly below the second strip.

  • Patent number: 4065990
Abstract: A piece of film is prepared for photographic exposure with a film font so as to produce a duplicate font. The piece of film is initially cut to a proper size and placed between a first supporting platen and a cover plate which is adapted to fit snugly against the film. Hole punches fixed to the bottom of an overlying second platen are moved down and through the film. The film and the original film font are then impaled on a register pin which holds them rigidly together for photographic exposure.

Abstract: A tube perforating device for forming outlet openings in a tube, such as a plastic tube, having discharge openings for passage of air, or the like, where it is desired to diminish the sound of the discharge to a minimum, and the method of accomplishing such opening formations by multiple perforations with perforating members spaced as desired and having ovoid heads to permit perforations of the walls of the tube and withdrawing the head of the perforating means through the perforations, drawing the peripheral margins of the opening outwardly, leaving the inside wall of the tube smooth, thus diminishing turbulance therein, and said device having an adjustment permitting a selective penetration of both walls of the tubing, transversely, with just the point of the penetrating means perforating the bottom wall, forcing said peripheral margin outwardly on the bottom perforation, and withdrawing the said head through the upper wall penetration, again moving the peripheral margin outwardly, providing pairs of openin

  • Patent number: 4048891
Abstract: A cutter having a reciprocating knife for cutting sheet material has a drive mechanism for converting the rotary motion of a drive member into the reciprocating motion of the knife. The drive mechanism is comprised of a mechanical linkage which causes the forces applied to the upper end of the knife to be directed substantially along the axis of reciprocation and to, therefore, have very small lateral components minimizing wear between the knife guiding surfaces. The drive mechanism basically includes an eccentric drive pin which through a connecting link oscillates a pivotal crossarm. The oscillating movement of the crossarm is in turn imparted to the knife by means of an intermediate link connected between the crossarm and knife.

  • Patent number: 4036089
Abstract: The assembly is for shearing rod sections with a movable cutter carriage carrying a shearing blade between a resting position and a shearing position. A reciprocating impact head is used to drive the cutter carriage. The impact head is moved into contact with an adjacent end of the cutter carriage to effect motion of the cutter carriage to the shearing position. The cutter carriage is biased toward the impact head and the resting position to effect the return stroke motion of the cutter carriage. The contact of the impact head with the adjacent end of the cutter carriage is broken on completion of the return stroke to draw the impact head a predetermined distance back to a starting position from which the impact head is ready to strike the adjacent end of the cutter carriage with considerable momentum upon the starting of the next shearing cycle.

  • Patent number: 3986418
Abstract: A system for making cutouts and angular cuts in stepped siding uses a punch to remove, at the desired cut location, a rectangular section including the step and a small portion of both faces adjacent the step. The punch operates in a shearing manner with cutting surfaces progressively contacting the siding as the punch is moved into the die. Final cuts of the siding are made with cutters which do not require support of the stepped portion of the siding.

  • Patent number: 3964358
Abstract: A punching apparatus includes a press frame having upper and lower portions forming a recess to receive a workpiece that is supported by a worktable mounted on the frame lower portion. A tool support arm having a tool holder releasably connected thereto is pivotally connected to the frame upper portion for movement into and out of vertical alignment with a ram punch and die. A fluid actuated piston cylinder assembly is connected to the press frame in the recess with an extensible rod of the assembly connected to the rear end portion of the tool support arm. Actuation of the assembly by an actuator valve laterally swings the tool support arm between a tool punching position and a tool changing position displaced from alignment with the ram punch and die. A fluid actuated extensible device in the frame upper portion secures the tool support arm to the press frame in the tool punching position.
