Uniplanar Compound Motion Patents (Class 83/646)
  • Patent number: 4516457
Abstract: The invention concerns a plane die-cutting machine for die-cutting laminar material, of the type comprising a plane punch and an arc-shaped counter punch, which is controlled by moving means pressing the same against a work material inserted between it and the punch, said counter punch being simultaneously rotated around a line of instant-contact which runs along the punch. To avoid impacts between the reciprocally moving parts, the invention provides extensions integral to the punch and to the counter-punch, which maintain the contact between these latter for a portion of the reciprocal oscillatory movement outside the die-cutting area, so that said reciprocal oscillatory movement takes place with constantly contacting zones, like a blotter of blotting-paper.

  • Patent number: 4475938
Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting device for the sectioning of a liquid glass strand into individual fragment (gobs) to be further processed into hollow glass articles. In order to achieve a trouble-free cutting process as well as a relatively small mass of the parts moved during the cutting, combined with an increase in the production rate, the invention proposes a cutting device having a housing (2) in which a cutting unit (3) is formed by several partially overlapping cutting elements (4) disposed around the glass strand (5) which are rotatably journaled at one of their ends and connected to the planet gears 7 of a planetary gearing whose outer ring gear (8) is connected with a drive. The cutting edges of the cutting elements (4) are of curved shape.

  • Patent number: 4471678
Abstract: A ring-blade saw for cutting a tube generally centered on a tube axis has a subtantially stationary base, an outer frame displaceable in a straight line in a plane, and an actuator connected between the base and the outer frame for displacing the frame relative to the base in the plane. An inner support is carried by a first guide on the frame for movement relative to the frame in a first straight direction lying in the plane and by a second guide for movement of the support relative to the frame in a second straight direction lying in the plane and perpendicular to the first direction. A generally planar, annular and internally toothed saw blade lying generally on the plane, centered on a saw axis generally perpendicular to the plane, and carried on the support can be rotated on the support about this saw axis. Thus the tube to be cut can extend through the blade with its axis parallel to or on the blade axis.

  • Patent number: 4466318
Abstract: A drive system for the cutting station in a platen press has four toggle joints supporting the platen and each having a cam follower for moving the toggle joint by an associated rotating cam. The four toggle joints are disposed in pairs perpendicularly to the transport direction of sheets in the press. The pairs of toggle joints are aligned, with one pair of toggle joints being disposed between the other pair. The toggle joints are connected to a release device controlled by a security coupling. The cams are mounted on a common shaft provided at one end with a braking mechanism. Declutching of the security coupling simultaneously commands operation of each release device and of the braking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4328729
Abstract: A plane die-cutting machine, having a plane and fixed punch as well as a counter-punch with arch-shaped profile and apparatus to roll the counter-punch without any reciprocal sliding with respect to the punch, in order to die-cut each sheet of material under work in succession by the displacement of the theoretical line of contact of the counter-punch on the punch.

  • Patent number: 4300427
Abstract: Cutting apparatus with three blades, for trimming three sides of an inner book or the like, having a drive system which permits the simultaneous trimming of two opposed sides of the work closely followed by the trimming of the third side. Operation of the third cutting blade while the other two are still in motion is permitted by driving the simultaneously operated blades along a multi-directional orbital path.

  • Patent number: 4249443
Abstract: A circular saw for elongated work pieces particularly of metal has a saw blade mounted on an arm which is connected by a pivotal mount to a saw frame at one end and which is pivotally connected to a piston and cylinder type raising and lowering assembly at its other end. The arm can be longitudinally moved both with respect to the mount and with respect to the raising and lowering assembly which allows the blade to saw through work pieces of relatively large cross-sectional dimensions.

  • Patent number: 4247984
Abstract: A knife and chopper board combination is provided in which the knife is pivotally coupled to the board at its forward end to permit it to be turned about a vertical axis to various angular positions with respect to the top of the board and then turned about a horizontal axis for chopping, slicing or dicing food. A feature of the combination is the fact that the knife is easily removable from its supporting structure for cleaning and storing purposes.

  • Patent number: 4245537
Abstract: A two-piece tool for circumferentially scoring an optical fiber (11). Retaining member (21) has a substantially flat end surface (26) beyond which a portion (13) of the optical fiber protrudes perpendicularly. The scoring ring holder (28) floatably mounts a scoring ring (30). When the retaining member is inserted into the scoring ring holder, the portion (13) of the optical fiber extends into the scoring ring. A preselected relative orbital motion between the retaining member and scoring ring holder causes the scoring ring to revolve about the optical fiber scoring a line about the fiber circumference.

  • Patent number: 4122740
Abstract: A rolling blade shear has a stationary blade and a movable blade which latter is mounted and driven to roll over the stationary blade. The movable blade is carried by a pair of opposed toggle mechanisms which are pivoted to a supporting frame and to the movable blade and which are coupled together so as to swing together. Guide means on the frame guide one end of the movable blade along a fixed path. The coupled toggle mechanisms are driven by hydraulic piston and cylinder units connected between the frame and the mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 4019416
Abstract: A paper knife is mounted at its opposite ends on a pair of arcuate arms pivotally attached to the knife table. The knife is operated by a fluid cylinder which extends from the table to the knife. This way all of the operating apparatus is positioned beneath and not above the table, thereby providing a low profile so that the operator may reach over the knife. Various mechanical details enable quick paper sets and closer cuts.

  • Patent number: 3954033
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting cylinders of gelatinous material such as polyacrylamide gels into discs of precise thickness comprises a cutting surface which is placed in contact with the entire circumference of the cylinder. Cutting force is then applied from all points on the circumference at once, resulting in cutting the gel cylinder towards the center from all points on the circumference. This is accomplished by the use of a multi-bladed diaphragm similar to an iris diaphragm used for camera aperture control. The edges of the blades of the diaphragm form a variable dimension cutting surface.
