  • Patent number: 11833704
Abstract: Dynamic regulation of contact pressures in a blade sharpening system is provided. An example multiphase grinding wheel has a grinding face with one or more abrasive concentric rings for sharpening the cutting blade of the log saw machine, and one or more padded concentric rings consisting of fiber padding. Sharpening with the multiphase grinding wheel improves cut quality, increases blade life, removes glues and varnishes from the cutting blade, reduces blade deformation, and hones the edge of the cutting blade. A pneumatic tensioning system uses air bladders to apply dynamic cushioning and processor-controlled contact pressure between the grinding wheels and the cutting blade during sharpening. The fiber-padded grinding wheels and the air bladder tensioner provide improved sharpness of the cutting blade and longer life for the mechanical components.

  • Patent number: 7836807
Abstract: The present invention provides for a vertical band saw frame assembly having a support column having a top and a bottom, the support column having a lower band wheel attached thereto. The band saw frame further provides for a tilt plate having a plurality of apertures attached to the top of the support column and a mounting plate. The tilt plate provides a mounting platform for the upper band wheel, blade tensioning assembly, blade guide, and blade break sensor. In a preferred embodiment, the tilt plate is attachable to the mounting plate in two positions, a first position in vertical alignment with the lower band wheel and a second position in which the upper band wheel further from the support column and at an angle to the first position to create a canted cutting blade angle.

  • Patent number: 7789004
Abstract: A band saw machine includes a machine frame unit with a longitudinal guideway, a cam follower movable along the guideway, a wheel mount movable with the cam follower between closer and remote positions relative to a first wheel mounted on the machine frame unit, a biasing member disposed to bias the wheel mount to the remote position, a second wheel mounted on the wheel mount, a band saw blade trained on the wheels, and an actuating shaft with a cam end which engages the cam follower. The wheel mount can be kept in the closer position with a friction force that counteracts the biasing force of the biasing member by turning the actuating shaft so as to permit replacement of the band saw blade.

  • Publication number: 20100212465
Abstract: The cutting machine comprises a horizontal knife (17) for cutting a block (40) into plates (41). To allow for removal of a stack of plates (42) before the whole block (40) has been cut, a removal means comprising a removal conveyor (32) is provided. After completion of the last cut, the knife (17), after reversal of its cutting edge, will be entered into the cutting gap (43) again and be lifted, thus allowing a separating member (34) of the removal conveyor (32) to enter the resultant gap (44). By driving the conveyer belt (12), the stack of plates (42) is transferred onto the removal conveyor (32).
