  • Patent number: 6082239
Abstract: A saw having a self-pumped hydrodynamic blade guide or bearing for retaining the saw blade in a centered position in the saw kerf (width of cut made by the saw). The hydrodynamic blade guide or bearing utilizes pockets or grooves incorporated into the sides of the blade. The saw kerf in the workpiece provides the guide or bearing stator surface. Both sides of the blade entrain cutting fluid as the blade enters the kerf in the workpiece, and the trapped fluid provides pressure between the blade and the workpiece as an inverse function of the gap between the blade surface and the workpiece surface. If the blade wanders from the center of the kerf, then one gap will increase and one gap will decrease and the consequent pressure difference between the two sides of the blade will cause the blade to re-center itself in the kerf.

  • Patent number: 5497684
Abstract: A guiding system for large circular saws wherein the guiding pads are positioned according to a typical angular wavelength of a circumferential vibration wave of the saw blade when rotating at an operating speed. In one embodiment, the frequency of a natural circumferential vibration wave is measured before positioning the guiding pads. Two sets of guiding pads are spaced apart a distance equal to about half the angular wavelength of such natural vibration wave. This distance corresponds to an angular distance between two successive opposite peaks or crests of a sinusoidal wave in the saw blade. The consequence of two successive opposite peaks entering the guiding pads at the same time has the effect of dampening the vibration very quickly, by acting upon both sides of the blade simultaneously to reduce the amp amplitude of the wave, while maintaining balanced axial impact on the saw.

  • Patent number: 5473966
Abstract: A device and method for reducing the area of a transdermal patch without altering its pharmacokinetic profile are provided. The area of a transdermal patch is reduced by aligning the patch at a location on a template which uniquely matches a dimension of the patch. The patch is then cut along a line defined by an edge of the template when the patch is at the aligned location. The template can be selected from a group of templates which correspond to the desired percentage of area reduction of the patch. A sizing template for proportionally reducing the size of a transdermal patch which is one of a group of orthogonal patches of differing sizes is also provided. The template comprises a planar member having a straight bottom edge and a stepped top edge. The width of each step on the top edge is configured to uniquely match the width of one of the transdermal patches in the group. The height of the step defines a cutting line on which the patch is to be cut to achieve a preselected percentage of size reduction.

Abstract: A power saw has two oppositely reciprocating saw blades guided and supported in a receiving slot in a support plate. The blades are supported during sawing along shoulders on their outside by lower edges of support sections of the support plate. The arrangement is such that forces generated in operation during cutting press the saw blades together in the area of their teeth. This prevents saw dust, chippings etc. penetrating between the two saw blades. Preferably, the thickness of the saw blade shoulders are not greater than half the thickness of the saw blades, and preferably no greater than the thickness of the support section edges. The teeth of the saw blades may be so ground and arranged that the resultant force on the teeth during cutting also forces the saw blades together at their teeth.

  • Patent number: 4969270

  • Patent number: 4961359
Abstract: A saw guide system having gas lubricated bearing surfaces and liquid contact cooling of the saw blade is described. The gas lubricated bearing surfaces enclose a liquid contact coolant chamber providing a gas seal confining the liquid coolants. The use of regulated gas lubrication greatly reduces friction between the saw blade and saw guide while providing powerful centering forces which hold the saw blade precisely in position. The use of gas sealing allows the liquid coolants to be recirculated in a closed loop piping system, thus eliminating discharge to the environment while providing increased contact cooling of the saw blades.

Abstract: The miter box has a flat rectangular base and a pair of upraised, parallel and spaced-apart longitudinal guide rails. One of the guide rails is rigidly secured to the base, while the other can be laterally adjusted to guide the support plates of different makes of circular saws. A work piece guide bar is provided, being pivotally secured to the base at one of its ends and provided with a bolt-and-nut arrangement engaging an arcuate slot in the base, for releasably locking same in a desired angular position in relation to the path of the saw. A portion of a depression made in the base between the guide rails is occupied by a removable plank for receiving saw-cuts made by the specific saw used with the miter box.

Abstract: A woodcutting guide is set forth wherein an elongate guide surface maintains a cutting tool in alignment overlying a workpiece to be cut. The guide includes an elongate coextensive "T" slot with a first fixed arm directed orthogonally outwardly thereof, with a second movable arm spaced from the first arm positioned outwardly thereof wherein each arm terminates in a guide cylinder slidingly overlying a pipe clamp secured to the workpiece. A friction surface against the guide maintains adherence of a tool pressed thereagainst and enables the guide to be movably repositioned along the length of the pipe cylinder of the pipe clamp organization.

  • Patent number: 4784034
Abstract: A saw blade assembly comprises a laminated structure of three side-by-side parallel strips, one two or all of which may have spaced teeth formed along one edge. Where only one strip has teeth, it is sandwiched between the two other strips and the teeth are of triangular shape when seen in plan and are bevelled on both edges to produce pointed tooth tips. Where two strips have teeth, the strips are arranged one on each side of a center strip. Again, the teeth are of triangular shape when seen in side elevation and are contoured to form pointed tips. The roots of the teeth on one strip are spaced laterally from the roots of the teeth on the other strip because of the presence of the center strip. In another form, each strip has teeth along one edge, the assembly thereby providing three parallel, side-by-side rows of teeth. The teeth are of triangular shape when seen in side elevation and are contoured to form pointed tips.
