Abstract: An interactive I/O terminal supplies information to a user and inputs information based on operations of the user in accordance with the information supplied to the user. The interactive I/O terminal includes an I/O display panel for displaying a predetermined screen having a display area on which messages are to be displayed and operation keys for outputting signals corresponding to the operation keys operated by the user; a first controller for controlling the I/O display panel so that messages are displayed on the display area in the screen formed on the I/O display panel, a second controller for controlling the I/O display panel so that the screen is maintained on the I/O display panel until operations corresponding to a plurality of messages displayed on the display area are completed, and a processing unit for performing processes corresponding to the signals supplied from the I/O display panel based on operations of the user.

Abstract: Discretionary data encoded on a track of a magnetic strip card is used to improve the reliability of recovery of the card data and, when coupled with complementary processing in the EFT terminal, protects the PIN on an end to end basis (that is between the transaction terminal and the card issuer), as well as providing for end to end card authentication. An issuing bank encodes cards under the control of a number of encryption and encoding keys which are unique to the Issuer Identification Number (IIN). The result of this is an individual encryption key (Card Key CK) for each card which is derived from this key. The encoded Card Key (CK) which is stored in an encoded form within the track discretionary data is used as the basis of a key to firs encrypt the PIN. The Card Key is combined with transaction variables such as amount of the transaction to produce a unique PIN key for this transaction. The Card Key is not transmitted by the terminal to the controlling computer system.

The selection requesting unit requests a user to input information in an alternative style via the display device. The selection processor performs a predetermined process based on information, selectively input by the user through the display device and a selection input unit of the input device, and the internal state. A transaction processor performs a transactional process based on the transactional operation of the operation unit. The transaction processor communicates with a host system in a center to accomplish a transaction.

Abstract: A smart card for financial transactions that can be programmed to operate using a variety of applications is disclosed. The card includes an interpreter that interfaces the smart card and an automatic teller machine or merchant terminal. The card includes a plurality of application modules each of which contain application programming that can be used by the interpreter to manage the card-to-system interface. At least one of the application modules can be reprogrammed to provide application programming for the interpreter that is compatible with the locally prevalent application program used by automatic teller machines and card terminals in the area where the cardholder is traveling.

Abstract: An automatic teller machine having an operation guide, an input unit, a transaction medium handling unit a halt requesting unit for requesting suspension of a transaction, a transaction recording unit for recording transaction information including information entered up to the point when the transaction suspension was requested and also for recording a transaction processing stage arrived at when the transaction suspension was requested, and an unreleased medium storing unit. When a transaction suspension is requested, a transaction resumption procedure is guided by the operation guide and, based on this transaction resumption procedure, the suspended transaction processing is resumed from the transaction processing stage recorded in the transaction recording unit by using the transaction information recorded in the transaction recording unit to release the transaction media stored in the unreleased medium storing unit.

Abstract: A cash processing system is capable of reducing manual operation in placing and collecting from a cashing handling apparatus, such as ATM's, cash dispensing machines and so forth and thus can eliminate the occurrence of error or theft. The cash processing system includes a detachable cash safe, a cash processing apparatus that detachably receives the cash safe for automatically setting a commanded amount of cash therein, and a cash handling apparatus that detachably receives the cash safe, in which the commanded amount of cash is set, for performing services including a cash dispensing service.

Abstract: A mobile device suitable for permitting banking transactions and a material for constructing such units. The mobile banking device includes a housing mounted on a platform extending upward therefrom. The outer housing defines an interior area sufficient to accommodate ingress and egress of appropriate service personnel. The device includes at least one customer transaction interface unit such as an ATM device mounted in one of the walls and accessible from the exterior of the outer housing. The mobile device also includes at least one set of wheels attached to the platform and extending downward therefrom and a suitable device for emitting discernable evidence of unauthorized breaches in the outer security of the housing such as an audible or inaudible alarm. The outer housing can be constructed from a material first and second planar layers composed of a polymeric resin positioned a spaced parallel distance from one another and an intermediate polymeric sheet interposed between the two planar layers.

Abstract: An IC card with display and input functions is provided which can notify the user of the card by voice to remind him of scheduled matters which are registered into the card, just by the depression of a predetermined key. The IC card has, on the front face, a keyboard display which serves as a display device and an inputting device, and has a voice outputting piezoelectric element of a very small size embedded in the rear face thereof. When the IC card is used with an ATM, reception and disbursement information are displayed on the display section when the user depresses a key. Further, just by depressing the one-touch key, the user of the card can receive notification of necessary operations with the ATM by voice.

Abstract: A system and method for fully automated electronic transfer of cash or cash equivalent between a sender and a recipient is shown, including an initiating terminal for receiving a designation of an amount of money to be electronically transferred, an account from which it is to be transferred, and a security code from the sender, a central terminal for storing the amount and the security code in a file in the central terminal, and a dispensing terminal for receiving from the recipient an entry corresponding to the designated amount of money to be transferred and the security code, for providing the entered amount of money and security code to the central terminal for comparison with the information stored in the central terminal's file, and for dispensing to the recipient funds equivalent to the designated amount of money without requiring the recipient to have a card to activate the dispensing terminal.

The device utilize a portable memory medium, such as an IC memory card, which stores guidance information together with a personal identification code; when the medium is inserted into a fixed terminal of the device by the holder of the medium, the guidance information is displayed on a display of the device and helps the legitimate holder of the portable memory medium to recall the identification code correctly. The memory medium may store plural pairs of such personal identification codes and the corresponding piece of guidance information. In such a case, one pair of the code and guidance information is selected in each instance of identification, so that abuses of the memory medium by strangers can be prevented effectively.
