  • Patent number: 4127274
Abstract: For use with a turntable structure for rotating a sound-recorded disc, an elongated tone arm is mounted pivotally intermediate its ends by a gimbal structure in which concentric rings are pivoted at right angles to each other by means of resilient torsion members which allow the tone arm to pivot, substantially without friction, both horizontally and vertically. The outer end of the arm mounts a cartridge stylus and the inner end mounts a longitudinally adjustable counterbalancing weight. Cooperating magnets are mounted on the tone arm and turntable base and are arranged to provide repelling magnetic forces to effect insertion of the stylus in the starting groove of a recorded disc and to effect removal of the stylus from the ending groove of the disc and return of the tone arm to a rest position. Energy absorbing material is contained on the tone arm to prevent the latter from resonating.

  • Patent number: 4101357
Abstract: Motion picture sound film is spliced by cutting the film transversely between the adjacent picture frames, then longitudinally forward between the picture frames and sound stripe to the end point at which the sound relates to the first picture frame adjacent the transverse cut, and then transversely across the sound stripe at said end point. A similar cutting is made at the opposite end of a length of the film to be removed, whereby to provide a pair of mating ends on film portions to be joined. These mating ends are arranged with their mating edges in abutment, the forwardly extended sound stripe of the first cutting fitting into the notch formed by the removal of sound stripe in the second cutting, and the picture frames adjacent the transverse cut being in edge-to-edge abutment. Pressure sensitive transparent tape then is applied across the abutting transverse and longitudinal edges to secure the splice.

  • Patent number: 4080950
Abstract: A ball is delivered into the constricted space between, and thereby gripped frictionally by, a fixed pad and a confronting surface of a wheel which is driven at a speed predetermined to propel the ball therefrom at a selected velocity. The line on which the ball is propelled between the pad and wheel is adjustable about a horizontal axis and the speed of the wheel is variable so as to adjust the trajectory of the thrown ball. Further, the pad may be mounted above or below the wheel to reverse the spin on the ball and thus afford a variety of practice conditions.

  • Patent number: 4068100
Abstract: The transmission of amplitude modulated stereo is achieved by modulating the positive and negative half cycles of a radio frequency carrier separately with a different one of the channels carrying the audio intelligence of a stereo program, thereby transmitting both stereo channels on the same carrier. The modulation is done after final amplification of the carrier signal, directly in the antenna circuit, in order to eliminate mixing of the two channels, and is achieved by utilizing each half cycle of radio frequency antenna current to activate separate modulators each connected to a different one of the sources of audio frequency intelligence signals. Reception of this transmission is achieved by inserting a radio frequency diode in the resonant circuit of each of two receiving antennas in opposite directions, whereby each antenna circuit is responsive only to a different one of the two channels.

  • Patent number: 4067396
Abstract: Mechanism operating through a mechanical advantage for rolling over a two-way gang plow comprises a pair of hydraulic cylinders acting through respective short links connected pivotally at one of their ends to their associated cylinders and at their opposite ends pivotally to spaced pivots on a bell crank lever secured to the roll-over shaft of the plow, the spacing between the bell crank lever pivots being less than the spacing between the link pivots. Annular rings surround the roll-over shaft for abutment by the links during operation of the mechanism, providing each link with a fulcrum point which is arranged to augment the output of the associated hydraulic cylinder during the initial portion of its extension.

  • Patent number: 4066451
Abstract: Refractory, hard carbide alloys, intended primarily as replacement for the cast eutectic WC + W.sub.2 C tungsten carbides currently used as hard components in wear-resistant facings, consist of fine-grained and hard two-phase mixtures of subcarbide, (Mo,W).sub.2 C, and hexagonal monocarbide (Mo,W)C, solid solutions, and are formed by solid state decomposition of the pseudocubic, .eta.-(Mo,W).sub.3 C.sub.2, or cubic .alpha.-(Mo,W)C.sub.1-x solid solutions. The carbide alloys of the invention can be combined with low-melting metal binders to form cemented carbide alloys of at least equivalent wear-resistance to alloys using the eutectic tungsten carbides.
