  • Patent number: 4191206
Abstract: An elongated brace member is attached adjacent its inner end pivotally to a base member clamped to the outer circumference of a wheel, a plurality of which support through their hubs an elongated assembly of interconnected irrigation pipes. The inner end of the brace member is connected to the base member through an extensible and retractable damper cylinder which functions to delay the pivotal movement of the brace member from a retracted, inoperative position in which it extends substantially parallel to the irrigation pipe line, to an extended, operative position in which it projects angularly outward and downward from the wheel into engagement of its outer end with the ground. In an alternate construction the base member is secured to the outer end of an elongated post which extends radially outward from the irrigation pipe.

  • Patent number: 4184587
Abstract: A modular framework, arranged to be installed in a main support frame for an elongated conveyor, supports at least three transverse drive beams for reciprocation in the longitudinal direction of the framework, each of the drive beams being connected to a source of power for independent reciprocation, the sources of power also being supported by the framework. A plurality of slat connectors are spaced apart transversely of the framework and are secured in groups one to each of the drive beams for longitudinal reciprocation therewith, each of the slat connectors serving to secure thereto an elongated conveyor slat arranged to extend the full length of the elongated conveyor. Slat guide members are mounted on the framework, as well as on the main support frame, in longitudinal alignment with the slat connectors, for guiding the slats in their longitudinal reciprocation.

  • Patent number: 4182040
Abstract: Endodontic files extend freely through openings in a gauge plate supported through a central threaded opening by an elongated, rotatable screw extending upwardly from a base. A post extends upwardly from the base and slidably engages the gauge plate to prevent rotation of the plate while allowing it to move vertically relative to the base upon rotation of the screw, whereby to afford adjustment of the vertical distance between the base and gauge plate to correspond with the depth of radicular pulp to be removed from the root canal of a tooth. Depth stoppers on the files are adjusted along the length of the files to bring them into abutment with the upper surface of the gauge plate, thereby establishing the depth to which the files are to penetrate the root canal. A cover fits removably over the gauge plate and base to retain the files on the gauge plate during transport and to accommodate autoclaving and sterile storage.

  • Patent number: 4180099
Abstract: A fluid inlet passageway communicates at one end with a source of fluid under pressure and at the opposite end with a fluid outlet passageway. A piston type control valve is movable axially in the fluid inlet passageway and is in fluid pressure sealing engagement with the opposite end portions of said passageway but not with an enlarged intermediate portion thereof, at which position of the valve fluid under pressure may pass around the valve and exit the outlet passageway. The valve is switched between said end and intermediate positions by a stepped stop block on the projecting end of the piston rod engageable releasably by an abutment on a cam follower lever which mounts a cam follower roller positioned for engagement with a pair of relatively adjustable cam elements mounted for rotation with a timer shaft driven by a wind-up spring clock timer.

  • Patent number: 4162739
Abstract: A label dispenser for dispensing adhesive labels from rolls of label tape, comprises a rectangular enclosure having a plurality of adjustable-width partitions for holding variable width label tape rolls in an upright position, and a hinged lid which can be opened to insert fresh tape rolls. The free ends of the label tapes are fed through a pair of sponge rubber strips, mounted, respectively, at the upper edge of the enclosure front wall and the forwardmost portion of the lid for mutual contact when the lid is closed. A hasp-type lid fastener serves to draw the lid downwardly, compressing the two rubber strips together, whereby to grip the label tapes frictionally between them when the lid is fastened shut.

  • Patent number: 4157468
Abstract: Infrared or visible light radiation is arranged to traverse substantially the entire cross sectional area of a passageway as a wide, flat beam having a thickness not substantially exceeding the minimum thickness of particles to be counted and a width substantially greater than the thickness, and is detected as a field of radiation of substantially constant intensity. When a particle falls by gravity through any portion of the field, the detected change in intensity functions to activate an electronic counter which provides a direct digital readout of the number of particles passing through the field in a given period of time, distance, or area.

  • Patent number: 4153237
Abstract: A hydrapneumatic suspension unit for a vehicle has a first and and a second chamber separated by valve assembly in communication with both chambers for controlling the flow of liquid therebetween. The first said chamber is liquid filled and includes a slidably mounted piston connected by a linkage to the road wheel. The second chamber includes a first compartment containing the liquid and a second compartment containing a compressible medium, wherein the first and second compartments are separated by a floating piston or a diaphragm member to permit compression and restoration of the compressible medium. The valve assembly includes a damping valve, a low-restriction check valve for permitting one-way flow of liquid from the first to the second chamber, and a damping bypass valve for enabling quick return of liquid from the second chamber to the first chamber. Interconnection may be provided to establish equalization between two or more suspension units.

  • Patent number: 4144963
Abstract: At least one group of at least three elongated slats are mounted side by side on a frame for longitudinal reciprocation to form a conveyor, the slats being connected to adjustable drive mechanism which is operable in a first position of adjustment such that there are always a greater number of slats of each group moving simultaneously in a conveying direction, with the remaining slat or slats of each group moving in the opposite direction, and in a second position of adjustment such that all of the slats of each group move simultaneously in the conveying direction, to initiate movement of a load to be conveyed, whereupon the drive mechanism is adjusted to said first position of adjustment. In one embodiment of the invention, elongated flexible seals are provided between adjacent pair of slats, each seal being secured to one of the slats of the pair and slidably engaging the other slat of the pair, whereby to form a substantially non-porous conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4145066
Abstract: A mounting base secured to the rear bumper of a school bus pivotally supports at least one step plate for movement between an operative horizontal position extended rearwardly of the bumper for use by children exiting the bus by way of the rear emergency door, and a retracted vertical position extended upwardly adjacent the rear end of the bus. A catch mounted on the emergency door of the bus is arranged to extend downward sufficiently to overlap the retracted step and secure it in retracted position when the emergency door is closed. When the door is opened, the catch is moved therewith away from the step, whereupon the latter swings downward to the operative horizontal position.

  • Patent number: 4129938
Abstract: A dry insulated, impulse voltage resistant, multi-layer series wound coil having air ducts between layers for use in transformers, reactors, and the like is made with minimum solid insulation spacing between adjacent conductors and maximum air spacing radially between coil layers. The method of making includes winding on a form of alternate layers of insulation and conductors. After one layer of winding is complete, cloth-wrapped duct-forming molds are supported on the windings and further insulation and conductors are wound around the whole assembly. When the desired number of layers is complete, the assembly is vacuum cast in a resin and the forms and the molds are then removed.
