  • Patent number: 4057220
Abstract: A cable winch shaft, adapted for rotational mounting adjacent its opposite ends in laterally spaced supports, has an end extension formed as a ratchet gear which is confined in a cavity in a base member also adapted to be secured to one of the supports. An adjacent, communicating cavity in the base member guides the reciprocative movement of a spring-loaded ratchet arm provided at its inner end with a ratchet dog which is urged resiliently into engagement with the gear to secure the winch shaft against rotation in one direction but allowing its rotation in the opposite direction. The opposite end of the arm projects from the base member for manual manipulation, against the resistance of the spring loading, to disengage the dog from the gear and thus release the winch shaft for rotation in both directions.

  • Patent number: 4052247
Abstract: Apparatus for splicing motion picture sound film provides for cutting the film transversely between the adjacent picture frames, thence longitudinally forward between the picture frames and sound stripe to the end point at which the sound relates to the first picture frame adjacent the transverse cut, and thence transversely across the sound stripe at said end point. A similar cutting is made at the opposite end of a length of the film to be removed, whereby to provide a pair of mating ends on film portions to be joined. These mating ends are arranged with their mating edges in abutment, the forwardly extended sound stripe of the first cutting fitting into the notch formed by the removal of sound stripe in the second cutting, and the picture frames adjacent the transverse cut being in edge-to-edge abutment. Pressure sensitive transparent tape then is applied across the abutting transverse and longitudinal edges to secure the splice.

  • Patent number: 4042253
Abstract: A weight transfer system for coupling a two-way gang plow to a towing vehicle eliminates lifting of the rear end of the towing vehicle due to the weight of the plow assembly when the plow assembly is raised for transportation. An elongated cable is connected at its forward end to the tow bar of the towing vehicle, at a pivot point above and coaxial with the pivot towing connection of the plow tongue, and at its rearward end to the main support frame at a point above the point of joinder of the main support frame and a pivoting linkage which connects the main support frame to the wheel of the plow. A hydraulic cylinder rotates the linkage to raise the main support frame, thereby tensioning the cable and rotating the support frame angularly upward for towing. The tension force in the cable in turn causes a moment at the tow bar counteracting the lifting force at the rear end of the towing vehicle caused by the weight of the plow assembly.

  • Patent number: 4034924
Abstract: A dispensing apparatus for toilet tissue includes first roll maintaining fingers for holding a first roll of tissue rotatably in an operative position partially extending through a window in the frame of the apparatus. Second roll maintaining fingers engage a second roll of tissue and support it and subsequent rolls above the first roll. An escapement mechanism operable by the user engages the first and second roll maintaining fingers for moving them from a closed, roll-engaging position to an open position disengaging the rolls, causing ejection of the core of the empty first roll and depositing the second roll in the window for use. Third roll maintaining fingers are engaged by the escapement mechanism in a manner to be placed in engagement with a third roll, securing it and subsequent rolls while the second roll is being transferred to the operative position of the ejected empty first roll.

  • Patent number: 4030552
Abstract: In a plow assembly, each plow bottom is supported by an arm mounted pivotally on a beam for movement of the plow bottom between outwardly extending and inwardly retracted positions. The beam and each arm are operatively interconnected by an extensible fluid pressure piston-cylinder unit supplied at one end with fluid under pressure, whereby the plow bottom is urged toward said outwardly extending position. The opposite end of the piston-cylinder unit communicates with a sealed chamber containing air or other compressible gas to prevent entrance into the cylinder of air laden with dust and other debris. In a two-way plow assembly, the arms of each opposed pair are interconnected by the fluid pressure piston-cylinder unit, and abutment means interengages each arm and the beam to limit the degree of outward extension of the plow bottoms.

  • Patent number: 4026223
Abstract: A sludge incinerator for use in the flash evaporation of water contained in high moisture sludges comprises a primary chamber, with longitudinally spaced inlet tubes to introduce the sludge and compressed air therein in an atomized spray, and primary burners intermediate the inlet tubes, to heat and burn the sludge, thus separating it into dry solids and water vapor. A screw conveyor removes the dry solids from the primary chamber. An afterburner, including secondary burners, a secondary air supply, and a mixing chamber to mix the secondary air with the primary combustion products, provides further oxidation to achieve substantially complete combustion of the combustibles content of the sludge and fuel. A vertical stack exhausts these combustibles and vapors from the mixing chamber.

  • Patent number: 4026261
Abstract: A football is projected with rotation on its longitudinal axis, in the manner of a forward pass, when it is fed into the space between, and thereby gripped frictionally by, the laterally spaced, confronting surfaces of a pair of driven wheels which confronting surfaces move in a forward, football throwing direction but in planes which extend forward angularly to opposite sides of the line on which the football is projected, the planes forming an included acute angle with each other. The speed and direction of football rotation may be varied by adjusting said angular relationship, and the speed of forward projection of the football may be varied by adjusting the rotational speed of the wheels. By adjusting said confronting surfaces to a common plane and feeding a football into the space therebetween such that said surfaces grip the football below its longitudinal centerline, the football is projected therefrom with rotation on its transverse axis, in the manner of an end-over-end kick-off.

  • Patent number: 4023553
Abstract: A charcoal lighter comprises a tubular housing with draft openings in the lower portion and a grate loosely positioned within. Hanger rods pivotably support the grate removably from the upper edge of the housing in a raised, horizontal position for holding charcoal to be lit, and one of the rods is releasable from the housing edge to pivot the grate to a lowered, declining position for depositing the lit charcoal onto a grill base. A perforate plate is installable on the upper edge of the tubular housing, allowing its use as a miniature grill, and when so installed it locks the releasable hanger rod to the housing edge, to prevent inadvertent release of the grate to the lowered position.
