    Abstract: An improved photographic developing solution is free of dihydroxybenzene developing agents such as hydroquinone, has a pH in the range of from 9.5 to 11.5 and comprises (1) an ascorbic acid developing agent, (2) an auxiliary super-additive developing agent and (3) a carbonate buffering agent in a concentration of at least 0.5 molar. The developing solution is broadly useful in black-and-white development but is most advantageously employed in a process for forming a high-contrast image utilizing a silver halide photographic element comprising a hydrazine compound which functions as a nucleating agent and an amino compound which functions as an incorporated booster. The developing solution is ecologically advantageous, exhibits excellent stability with respect to seasoning effects, and provides high speed and good upper scale contrast combined with a low level of pepper fog and a moderate degree of chemical spread.

    Abstract: Thermally processable imaging elements in which the image is formed by imagewise heating or by imagewise exposure to light followed by uniform heating and in which a polyalkoxysilane is incorporated in the imaging composition to provide enhanced adhesion are protected against undesirable width-wise curling by interposing a barrier layer between the support and the image-forming layer. The barrier layer, which is composed of poly(silicic acid) and a water-soluble hydroxyl-containing monomer or polymer that is compatible therewith prevents migration from the image-forming layer to the support of by-products of hydrolysis of the polyalkoxysilane which can cause width-wise curl and consequent jamming of processing equipment.

    Abstract: Photographic glass plates are advantageously prepared by a process in which the functional layers are applied to the glass plate support by lamination. In a first form of this process, a multilayer-composite comprising antihalation, silver halide emulsion and protective overcoat layers is transferred from a flexible polymeric film support to the glass support. In carrying out this first form of the process, a release layer, protective overcoat layer, silver halide emulsion layer and antihalation layer are coated, in order, on a flexible polymeric film and laminated via an adhesive layer to a glass plate having suitable thickness and flatness for use as a photographic support. The release layer is designed to have greater adhesion to the flexible polymeric film than to the protective overcoat layer, whereby the film and release layer can be stripped off prior to the plate being put into use.
