  • Patent number: 5564433
Abstract: An actuarial method for statistically determining the probable truth or falsity of a statement concerning a human subject and whether responses or statements made by the subject precede either a knowing representation by the subject of a truth or a lie. The method enables the correlation of a video image of a human subject, including mannerisms of the human subject, a selected plurality of eclectroencephalographic signals gathered from a plurality of electrodes located at specific points on the head of the subject, and a simultaneous detection or display of the subject's responses from a single video monitor combined with a computer analysis of the electroencephalographs to determine the subject's knowledge regarding a fact, a personal experience, and/or the truth or falsity of a particular statement by using a set of regression equations which establish before-truth, before-lie, during-truth, and during-lie base actuarial profiles for correlation and comparative analysis via computer.

  • Patent number: 5424712
Abstract: A motor vehicle carjacking defense apparatus comprises a double pole switch which actuates at least one solenoid controlling at least one valve which interconnects a nozzle to a pump connected to a pressurized tank containing a non-toxic and non-corrosive irritant. The switch also overrides the vehicles electric window system, the alarm system, and the air flow system simultaneously sealing the windows and the air flow system and energizing the alarm system. Alternatively, the switch located inside the vehicle actuates an infrared heat detector connected to said solenoid wherein upon actuation of the detector, the detector energizes the solenoid from an electrical power supply. A plurality of nozzles and infrared heat detectors are arrayed around the vehicle whereby when the detector is armed it detects the presence of a carjacker and causes a spray of a pressurized, non-toxic and non-corrosive irritant and smoke towards the would-be carjacker.

  • Patent number: 5380342
Abstract: A process is provided for burning a coal water slurry comprising providing clean coal fines of less than 100 mesh at about 50 weight % and water at about 50 weight % by co-firing the coal water slurry in a continuous stream with a separate stream of pulverized coal wherein about 80% of the total BTU output of the furnace is provided from the pulverized coal and approximately 20% of the BTU output is provided from the coal water slurry. First, a quarl in the furnace is preheated using natural gas, for example. The furnace is next fired with a fuel source of 60% pulverized coal and 40% natural gas. A coal water slurry with fines of minus 100 or smaller is subsequently gradually introduced into the furnace as the gas input is gradually decreased.

  • Patent number: 5324245
Abstract: A knee stretching machine for physical therapy of the knee is set forth wherein a padded thigh seat is adjustably attached aft on a body length shaft oriented on the floor. Attached across the body length shaft is a transverse member with an eyelet at each end. A winch is secured to the fore of the body length shaft. Aft and in front of the winch are two other eyelets for receiving two ropes. One of the ropes is connected to an ankle collar via the eyelet on one end of the transverse member and the other rope is independently connected to the ankle collar via the eyelet on the other end of the transverse member. A patient lies face down and places the thigh of the knee requiring therapy in the seat and secures the ankle in the collar. The winch is cranked to bend the knee joint behind the patient's back through a tolerable degree of flexion.
