  • Patent number: 6018970
Abstract: A stretch-forming machine of the type wherein a pair of opposed curving jaws grips opposing ends of a metal sheet to be stretch-formed in a curved configuration. Each of the jaws are formed of an array of adjacent grippers movable relative to each other by respective hydraulic cylinders to define a part of the curve of the jaw. The improvement to the stretch-forming machine which is the subject of this application comprises a closed-loop servo-control means for moving each one of the grippers into a predetermined position relative to each other. Each of the servo-control means comprises a hydraulic cylinder position controller carried by the hydraulic cylinder of the one gripper for controlling hydraulic fluid flow to the hydraulic cylinder responsive to stored data representing the desired predetermined position of one of the grippers. A motor is provided for actuating the position controller in response to the data received by the position controller to move the hydraulic cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6015001
Abstract: A two tier venetian blind comprises an upper and a lower tier of slats suspended from a blind control mechanism; a front upper control cord and a back upper control cord for tilting the upper tier of slats; a front lower control cord and a back lower control cord for tilting the lower tier of slats; and a lift cord passing through a lift cord hole in each slat in the upper and lower tiers of slats. To avoid having the lower control cords hang when the blind is raised, the front lower control cord passes through the lift cord holes in each slat in the upper tier of slats and the back lower control cord passes around the back upper control cord at a plurality of points along the back upper control cord. In this way the lower control cords are gathered as the blind is raised.

  • Patent number: 6014880
Abstract: The invention provides a siding machine for making metal siding having a formed top edge, a formed bottom edge, and a formed middle portion, from a coil of sheet metal which feeds between upper and lower rolls. The machine comprises a flat board former section having a fixed position bottom edge former, a plurality of fixed position driven upper and lower drive roll sets for feeding the sheet metal through the machine and an adjustable top edge former. The top edge former is adjustable from a minimum width closest to the bottom edge former to a maximum width. A transformer section receives a flat formed board from the flat board former section for forming a decorative profile in the middle portion of the board. Transformer rolls are mounted on an adjustable frame adjustable, within pre-set limits, perpendicular to the direction of travel of the board such that the transformer rolls may contact and form the board at a chosen location on its face.

  • Patent number: 6013045
Abstract: A touch fastener strap of the type which includes an elongate strap member with a buckle on a first end and complementary touch fastener elements carried by the strap member adjacent to an opposing second end. The second end of the strap member may be passed through the buckle, doubled over itself and secured in a desired position by connection of the complementary touch fasteners with each other. The improvement is a retention member carried adjacent the second end of the strap member and being deformable between a relatively thin insertion position wherein the second end of the strap member including the retention means is sufficiently thin to be inserted into and through the buckle in a first direction to form a loop, and a relatively thick retention position wherein the strap member including the retention means is sufficiently thick that it is normally retained in the buckle. The strap is also disclosed with specific reference to a wrist splint.

  • Patent number: 6006376
Abstract: A convertible patient lifting and transport apparatus includes a frame assembly mounted on wheels and adapted for rolling movement over a supporting surface. The frame assembly defines a patient carriage zone for being occupied by a patient above the supporting surface. A patient support is carried by the frame assembly. The patient support is convertible for supporting the patient in the carriage zone in a generally supine position and in a seated position. A mechanical elevating assembly is provided for lifting and lowering the patient support relative to the frame assembly. A frame conversion assembly moves the frame assembly between an open condition wherein the frame assembly expands for straddling a bed of the patient when lifting and removing the patient from the bed, and a closed condition wherein the frame assembly retracts outside of an area surrounding the bed for transporting the patient to a location away from the bed.

  • Patent number: 5980645
Abstract: A pipeline processing assembly for a pipeline adapted to convey a fluid from an upstream end of the pipeline to a downstream end of the pipeline. The assembly includes a pipeline pig for removing earthen matter and other debris from inside the pipeline. The pig is inserted into the pipeline at the upstream end, and has a dimension substantially equal to an inside diameter of the pipeline to form a seal between the pig and the pipeline. A vacuum source communicates with the pipeline downstream of the pig, and generates a reduced air pressure sufficient for moving the pig downstream through the pipeline. The pig gathers and moves the earthen matter and debris downstream through the pipeline and outwardly through an exit opening formed at the downstream end.

  • Patent number: 5983267
Abstract: A system and method provides flexible access to heterogeneous information from numerous sources. This is accomplished without relocating the original data, by analyzing the data in its existing format and assorted locations, in order to discern the logical structure of the data, in terms of whatever units might be applicable for the specific type of data in question (e.g., paragraphs, sections, articles, chapters, frames, etc.). The result is an object-oriented model of that data structure. The system also allows for customization of the format for displaying the information, once the model has been constructed. The data thus remains in its original location and format, but is presented through the system in a coherent, uniform format.
