  • Patent number: 5857391
Abstract: Device for cutting a protective layer away from a material roll of web-formed material, comprising a rotation device which rotates the roll. The rotation device includes at least two rotatable carrier rollers, on which the material roll is supported and is rotated. In this way the protective layer on the material roll is cut away from the roll during a cutting operation by a cutting tool device. This contacts the roll during its rotation. The rotatable carrier rollers form lifting and carrying devices on a mobile load carrier in order to support the material roll whilst rotating it during the cutting operation and in order to transport the material roll to and, respectively, from a chosen place for the cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 5842475
Abstract: A protective pad, for example, a shin guard, for being custom-fitted to a body member to be protected, and including a first flexible cushion layer for being placed against the body member in a first orientation and an initially flexible intermediate layer having a first side positioned adjacent to the first layer. The intermediate layer includes a fabric impregnated with a moisture-curable resin which hardens upon curing to form a rigid structure of the fabric which retains a body part-defined shape into which it is molded during curing, thereby also holding the first flexible cushion layer in the same body-part defined shape, the intermediate layer defining at least first and second adjacent segments for overlying adjacent body parts of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 5840398
Abstract: A fastener assembly of the type for being molded into cushions, and including a base having first and second major surfaces defining first and second opposed ends and first and second opposed side edges. A multiplicity of attachment members are carried by the base and extend outwardly from the base for cooperating with complementary attachment members. First and second laterally-extending sealing gaps are respectively positioned adjacent the ends of the base. The sealing gaps are defined by areas of the first major surface of the base being devoid of the attachment members for permitting a sealing dam carried by a mold in which the foamed article is molded to fit into the sealing gaps and sealingly engage the first major surface of the base to form a foam-tight seal between the opposed ends of the base and the sealing dam of the mold to prevent intrusion of liquid foam past the ends of the base onto the attachment members of the base during molding of the article.

  • Patent number: 5836630
Abstract: A posthole digger has first and second spaced-apart, substantially upright, pivotably attached handles. First and second cooperating scoops extend from respective proximal ends of the handles. The scoops are moveable between a generally open position for penetrating the ground surface, and a generally closed position for excavating. A cleaning attachment includes a stationary hollow sleeve attached adjacent the proximal ends of the handles. An elongate slide rod is received within the sleeve and extends between the handles for sliding vertical movement relative to the handles. An inner scraper is attached to an end of the slide rod, and is positioned between the first and second scoops. A spring engages the slide rod and normally urges the inner scraper upwardly into a storage position adjacent a top end of the scoops. A foot extension is formed with the inner scraper and is depressed by the foot of a user against the force of the spring to move the inner scraper downwardly along the length of the scoops.

  • Patent number: 5831216
Abstract: A profile strip of insulating material is proposed for holding many electrical cables (27)-(30) in switching and control boards and panels, which consists of a mounting section (13) for fastening on a mounting track and a comb-like cable holding section (15) formed thereon. This cable holding section (15) consists of many parallel teeth (14), between which insertion slits (26) for insertion or installation of electrical cables are formed. The insertion slits (26) are limited at the sides by elastic tabs (21) formed on the teeth (14). Between every two teeth (14) a shorter intermediate tooth (20) is positioned such that it divides a portion of the insertion slit (26) into two narrower partial slits. This permits the elastic tabs (21) to hold, in variable fashion, not only cables of smaller diameter (29) in the portion with the intermediate tooth, but also cables of larger diameter (27), (28) in the remaining portion.

  • Patent number: 5815951
Abstract: An athletic shoe including a shoe upper and an outsole connected to the shoe upper is provided. The outsole defines a plurality of spike receiving openings therein. A plate is located between the shoe upper and the outsole, and includes a plurality of spikes attached thereto. The plate is movable within the upper between a spike-exposing position whereby the plurality of spikes extend outwardly through respective openings formed in the outsole, and a spike-retracting position. An inflatable bladder is located between the plate and the outsole. When inflated with a fluid, the bladder lifts the plate upwardly into the spike-retracting position, and holds the plate in the spike-retracting position during shoe wear. An exhaust communicates with the bladder for exhausting the fluid contained in the bladder. When the fluid is exhausted, the plate is movable into the spike-exposing position by the weight of the wearer during shoe wear.
