  • Patent number: 5816662
Abstract: An over-the-shoulder safety harness is used in combination with a chair having a back and a bottom. An elongated safety harness attachment member is located on a back side of the chair back and extends from one side of the back to the other side of the back. The safety harness includes first and second shoulder straps adapted for extending over the shoulders of the occupant. The shoulder straps have respective first and second ends. The first ends are secured to the attachment member for slidably adjustable movement along the length of the attachment member. The first and second shoulder straps define a laterally-extending occupant space therebetween. The occupant space is adjustable by sliding the first ends of the shoulder straps along the length of the attachment member. The occupant space is reduced to further restrain the occupant by sliding the straps towards each other and is increased to remove the occupant from the chair by sliding the straps away from each other.

  • Patent number: 5816304
Abstract: An apparatus for increasing the flexibility of and straightening wooden flooring strips of the type having a top surface having a decorative finish and a base surface opposed to the top surface. The base surface has a multiplicity of closely spaced-apart scores extending into the flooring strip from the base surface transverse to the length of the flooring strip along substantially the entire length of the flooring strip to relieve stress and increase flexibility in the wood strip for more closely adhering to irregularities of a sub-floor. The apparatus has an infeed zone for feeding flooring strips downstream from an upstream processing station and an outfeed zone for discharging the flooring strips to a downstream processing station. A conveyor conveys the flooring strips downstream from the infeed zone to the outfeed zone.

  • Patent number: 5804105
Abstract: A fluid diffuser includes an inner extruded tube and an outer extruded tube between which there is a woven fabric material tube. The diffuser includes pores formed by a non-ablative piercing process and being arranged to act as valves which are self-closing when fluid is not flowing through the diffuser. The woven fabric material is arranged to restrain diametral expansion of the inner and outer tubes and thereby restrain an increase in pore size as the pressure of fluid flowing through pores is increased. Thus, if the diffuser is used for diffusing air into water, the size of bubbles produced remains substantially constant as the pressure of air supplied to the diffuser is increased. Other diffusers are described which function in a similar manner, including a disc diffuser and tubular diffusers which are made of sheet material.

  • Patent number: 5804019
Abstract: An apparatus for applying adhesive and a protective release paper to successive elongate wooden flooring strips having a top decorative side, and a bottom adhesive side for being adhered to a supporting subfloor. The apparatus includes an infeed conveyor for receiving successive wooden flooring strips top side-up from an upstream processing station in parallel lengthwise alignment to each other and moving the flooring strips in a direction of movement perpendicular to the length of the flooring strips. An accumulator equally spaces the flooring strips apart on the infeed conveyor. An inverter receives successive flooring strips from the infeed conveyor and inverts the flooring strips from top decorative side-up to bottom adhesive side-up. An applicator conveyor receives the inverted flooring strips from the inverter and moves the flooring strips end-to-end in a direction of movement parallel to the length of the flooring strips.

  • Patent number: 5801506
Abstract: A method and a system for controlling an AGV for route selection upon transfer between different spaces within which the AGV is movable. The spaces are not fixedly related to each other with reference to their relative positions and are restricted from each other by the inclusion of area boarder lines. When an AGV is present within a first of the spaces, it detects for the purpose of transfer of the spaces, the relative position of the space by two reference instruments belonging to the second space. Each of the reference instruments is fixedly related to the present space. The AGV will move over the area border lines between the two spaces selecting route depending on calculating relative position.

  • Patent number: 5800326
Abstract: The process for manufacturing an integrally-formed handle for a bag includes the steps of turning an edge of a sheet of bag stock on itself a predetermined number of times to form a multiple-thickness handle on the sheet stock, while leaving an adjacent portion of the sheet stock unfolded. The opposed side edge portions of the handle are then folded onto and overlying the unfolded portion of the sheet stock. The folded side edge portions are then glued onto the unfolded portion of the sheet stock. The central portion of the handle is then severed from the unfolded portion of the sheet stock. The unfolded portion of the sheet stock is then folded and glued into a bag enclosure with the handle residing adjacent a side of the bag defining a top opening.

  • Patent number: 5798596
Abstract: A permanent magnet motor with enhanced inductance which comprises a motor frame having annular inner walls defining a void therein and a stator mounted on and extending around the periphery of the inner walls of the frame in the void in the motor frame. The stator includes windings positioned thereon for developing current from power supplied to the motor, the innermost portion of the stator defining a radial inner portion of the void. A rotor is mounted in the void radially inwardly of the stator for concentric rotation in the motor frame in closely spaced-apart relation to the stator. The rotor has an iron core for air gap flux interaction with the stator, and the rotor has a magnet zone and a lamination zone extending axially along the length of the rotor. The magnet zone has a permanent magnet positioned on the rotor and projecting therefrom for interaction with the windings on the stator to produce magnetic-field induced torque for rotating the rotor.

  • Patent number: 5794426
Abstract: A lever (30) is pivotably mounted about ax axis Z on a carrier journal (24) which is pivotable about an axis X and with which electromagnets (46, 48) cooperate. The lever carries a thread-receiving member (20) and is under the effect of a tension spring (42). When the thread is intercepted by the thread-receiving member during the forward rotation of the cop, there follows a deflection of the thread-receiving member, which takes place with the tension spring being tensioned at the same time and which is caused by the thread, on a path approximate to the movement of the traveller on the ring. The tensioned tension spring pivots the thread-receiving member during the paying-out of thread which occurs as a result of the subsequent reverse rotation of the cop. As a result of the intermediate blocking about one of the axes, the thread-receiving member moves on a path lying approximately in a tangential plane relative to the ring.

  • Patent number: 5794285
Abstract: A bed cover assembly for a mattress is provided. The assembly includes a bottom sheet adapted for covering a top surface and sides of the mattress. A top sheet overlies the bottom sheet. Elastic attachment sections are provided along a perimeter portion of the top sheet for elastically interconnecting the top sheet and the bottom sheet together. The elastic sections cooperate with the top sheet and bottom sheet to form a resilient sleeping pocket around a bed occupant positioned therebetween. The elastic sections accommodate movement of the top sheet relative to the bottom sheet upon movement of the bed occupant while maintaining the top sheet in an assembled condition over the bottom sheet and mattress.

  • Patent number: 5795640
Abstract: A fastener assembly of the type for being molded into cushions, and including a base having first and second major surfaces defining first and second opposed ends and first and second opposed side edges. A multiplicity of attachment members are carried by the base and extend outwardly from the base for cooperating with complementary attachment members. First and second laterally ending sealing gaps are respectively positioned adjacent the ends of the base. The sealing gaps are defined by areas of the first major surface of the base being devoid of the attachment members for permitting a sealing dam carried by a mold in which the foamed article is molded to fit into the sealing gaps and sealingly engage the first major surface of the base to form a foam-tight seal between the opposed ends of the base and the sealing dam of the mold to prevent intrusion of liquid foam past the ends of the base onto the attachment members of the base during molding of the article.
