Abstract: A crop header has generally horizontal flail disks mounted for driven rotation about generally upright axes. A pair of conditioner rolls is mounted in a discharge opening and a transfer roller is mounted behind the disks and in front of the nip. At each end, two disks are mounted outwardly of the discharge opening each rotating so that its blade moves inwardly and each carries an impeller to carry the crop inwardly. A third disk is arranged so that a line forward of the end of the discharge opening intersects the third disk inward of the axis of the third disk. The third disk rotates so that its blade moves outwardly so that the crop tends to pass between the second and third disks. A pair of impellers are mounted behind the second disk and move inwardly to carry the cut crop to the discharge opening.
Abstract: A paving apparatus is arranged to pave a supporting surface by casting individual paving stones on site on a mobile frame and placing the cast paving stones directly onto the supporting surface in an uncured state adjacent previously placed paving stones as the apparatus is displaced along the supporting surface. Molds are supported by a conveying mechanism of the paving apparatus for movement between a casting position in alignment with a hopper dispensing castable material into the molds and a placing position in which the uncured paving stones are dispensed from the mold directly onto the supporting surface to be paved.

Abstract: A panel formed by resin infusion from two fiber reinforced resin layers and a separating core is connected to a member such as a metal rail or another panel by an adhesive joint. The panel edge is shaped to define a male portion with a web and two side portions and the rail is channel shaped to match. A layer of adhesive of a thickness not less than 0.03? or more than 0.10? covers the base and sides. The tapered shape allows the adhesive located between the web of the panel and the web of the member, between the flange of the panel and the surface of the member and between the flange of the member and the second surface of the panel to be simultaneously compressed without the necessity for any shearing in the adhesive layer.
Abstract: A method of imaging an optically thin sample is described wherein a collimated beam is directed through the sample and then reflected back through the sample one or more times. The beam is then directed toward a detector which collects and analyzes the spatial and spectral composition of the beam. In some embodiments, the detector is a focal plane array with a large number of detector elements. In other embodiments the relative position of a single detector or a small detector array and the sample is altered and the process is repeated, thereby tracing out a large virtual detector array. In either case, the spectral information received by the detector elements can be related, by methods which are elaborated below, to information about the spatial distribution of absorption in the sample.
Abstract: A delivery boot for mounting on a shank of an agricultural implement and carrying a sweep blade. The boot features a channel member having front, rear and side walls defining a channel extending downward from an inlet proximate the top end to an outlet proximate the bottom end, a sweep connection element defined on the channel member at a front side and a shank connection element defined on the channel member at a rear side thereof. A spreader is supported on the channel member proximate the outlet thereof to receive product delivered from the inlet through the channel member and guide the product laterally outward to both sides of the outlet. Arranged to mount in front of the shank and behind the sweep, the boot positions the outlet ahead of the shank to minimize disruption of product placement by earth falling back into the furrow behind the shank.
Abstract: An aircraft features a nose mounted propeller on a fuselage having a typical helicopter rotor assembly. By reducing the amount of forward thrust needed from the main rotor, the propeller allows greater forward speeds as the angle of attack on the rotor's blades can be kept low to avoid the stalling and violent vibration experienced by conventional helicopters at relatively high speeds. By reducing the maximum angle of attack experienced by the main rotor during its rotation during forward cruising from that of a conventional helicopter but still using the main rotor to generate lift, the addition of wings extending from both sides of the fuselage can be avoided. The aircraft may be flown in a forward direction in a generally horizontal orientation, as the nose does not have to be pitched downward to create thrust from the main rotor.
Abstract: A method of scanning breast tissue involves inserting an imaging element into a breast via a carrier inserted into a breast duct. The imaging element may be for example a receiver, a transmitter or a mirror. A signal is transmitted between one imaging element within the breast duct and a second imaging element outside the breast.
Abstract: A joint for a housing for electrical components has a series of extruded panels connected edge to edge. The first edge includes a slot defined by an inner wall and an outer wall and the second edge includes a blade inserted into the slot, the blade and the flexible wall including cooperating shoulders. The blade and slot are at an angle to the outer surface where a rib engages into an outer recess to seal the outer surface at the joint. A bridging member spans the joint to prevent spreading, while locking the flexible wall and carrying internal components. The housing can form a post or a receptacle on top of the post. The bridging members connect to end plates by screws extending though the plates so as to form an internal structure for the housing. Some of the connected panels can include cooling fins forming a cooling duct.
Abstract: A composite reinforcing bar is formed by providing a reinforcing material supply of fiber strands rovings; a resin supply bath, and a puller for pulling the resin-impregnated reinforcing material through the resin bath. The material is wound on a holder, while the resin remains unset, rotated about its axis on a drive system so that the material is wrapped around a plurality of bars at spaced positions around the axis such that the fed length of the body is wrapped from one bar to the next to form bent portions of the body wrapped partly around each bar and straight portions between the bars. Each bar has angularly grooves which are shaped to mold the bent portions to a required bent shape. The holder is indexed along it axis and removed when full for curing the resin on the holder while the body remains wrapped thereon.
Abstract: A pulley assembly for an overhead counter weight door features a base plate and a support arrangement carried on and spaced from the base plate so that the base and support arrangements face toward one another. A shaft is carried on the base plate and the support arrangement to extend therebetween with a pulley supported on the shaft between the base plate and the support arrangement for rotation about an axis defined by the shaft. A plurality of wall sections extends between the base plate and the support arrangement to establish connection therebetween radially outward from the shaft beyond an outer periphery of the pulley on more than two sides thereof.

Abstract: Sludge is treated in a treatment chamber by providing a pair of electrodes in the treatment chamber and applying an electrical current between the electrodes such that one of the electrodes functions as an anode and one of the electrodes functions as a cathode in proximity to the outlet. A flow of water is induced from the sludge towards the outlet by the electrical current. An ion exchange textile comprising exchangeable functional groups grafted thereon is located in proximity to at least one of the electrodes such that the ionic forms of the metals are exchanged with the functional groups on the ion exchange textile. Accordingly the sludge is dewatered and metals in the sludge are captured commonly in the treatment chamber while the electrical current simultaneously inactivates pathogens in the treatment chamber.
Abstract: An auger assembly transfers particulate material from a source area to a target area using a main auger, an open top swing auger or U-trough, and an extendable loading swing auger connected to one another. The main auger is supported on a wheeled frame similar to conventional grain augers while the U-trough is pivoted thereon, and the extendable loading swing auger is mounted on a rail system on the top of the U-trough. The inlet hopper of the extendable swing auger can be extended out to reach away from the main auger thus can be more easily positioned for proper alignment with the discharge hopper of a particulate material container even when the discharge hopper is within a confined space.
Abstract: A roof object is supported on a weatherproofing roof membrane of a building roof structure using a support device including a mounting block and a coupling sheet. The mounting block is a resilient block of material for damping vibrations mechanical roof objects. The coupling sheet is mechanically connected to the mounting block using threaded fasteners which clamp a portion of the coupling sheet to the bottom of the mounting block. The remainder of the coupling sheet spans the bottom side of the block to protect the roof membrane from wear resulting from relative movement between the block and the roof membrane. The coupling sheet is also formed of a bond compatible material with the roof membrane so that the block can be held down onto the roof structure even when the block is not bond compatible with the roof membrane by instead bonding the coupling sheet to the roof membrane.
Abstract: A leak in a membrane on top of a horizontal roof deck is located by applying conductive wires on the membrane underneath the aggregate in a grid pattern. A measuring and switching circuit generates voltage having a positive attached to the roof deck and a negative attached to the wires. The circuit has a relay for each wire which can be switched between a current sensor system and the negative potential. The sensor system is arranged to sense at each of the wires in turn the current flowing from the roof deck through any leak in the membrane to the wire. A micro-processor operates the relays in turn to connect all the other wires to the negative as a shield while each wire is sensed. From the output of the grid the changes in current in the x and y directions are analyzed to locate the leak in the membrane.
Abstract: An anchor is fastened into a drilled hole in substrate layer such as concrete by providing on an end portion of the anchor a surrounding layer of an adhesive of a character that it softens when heated and sets when it cools with a portion of the anchor exposed outside the hole. The exposed portion is heated by an inductive heating device in a heating cycle where the heating cycle is actuated by the operator switch but accurately controlled and limited to a single operation in the presence of the anchor by a control in the device in dependence on sensed environmental conditions and a measured size of the anchor.
Abstract: A support block for supporting objects on a roof is a molded elastomeric block with a substantially hollow core. The support block can be used as is or in a system whereby a galvanized steel channel is secured to the top wall of the block accommodating the mating of a variety of clamps. In some embodiments, the block is elongate and generally flat and supports a roof mounted object thereon when two or more blocks are supported parallel and spaced apart from one another with the object spanning between the blocks.
