  • Patent number: 6818058
Abstract: A method for treatment of fly ash for incorporation into and for preparation of mortars and concretes. Fly ash is intensively blended with a highly reactive and dry cement mixture that is obtained by mixing Portland cement with a microfiller and possibly a water reducing agent. The blend of fly ash and Portland cement is then ground in a vibratory milling device to achieve a final product fineness having a particle size to provide retention on a 45 &mgr;m sieve of less than 15 percent by weight of the blend.

Abstract: A continuously variable, conical disk transmission including a torque-transmitting member in the form of a plate-link chain or a thrust link band. The chain includes plate links that are interconnected by pairs of rocker members that extend transversely relative to the chain movement direction. The thrust link band includes a number of thrust links that are in face-to-back contact and that extend transversely relative to the band movement direction. Each of the rocker members and the thrust links have ends that contact surfaces of the conical disks of the transmission for transmitting torque between the sets of disks. The ends of the rocker members and of the thrust links have a carbon-nitrided outer layer having a thickness of at least about 50 &mgr;m for increased durability. The surfaces of the conical disks that are contacted by the chain or the thrust link band can also be similarly treated.

  • Patent number: 6808477
Abstract: An arrangement for supporting from a wall or column a martial arts dummy. The dummy has a vertically-extending, cylindrical body member that carries outwardly-extending arms and a leg to generally simulate a person for martial arts training and practice. A mounting bar that can be secured to a wall or column supports a pair of parallel, horizontal rods that carry a horizontal slat that passes laterally through the vertically-extending body of the dummy to allow side-to-side movement of the dummy along the slat. The outer ends of the rods include a stop member. Respective first and second springs are positioned between the slat and the mounting bar and between the slat and the stop members to allow forward and backward movement of the dummy in response to blows applied by the user.

  • Patent number: 6799439
Abstract: A method for equalizing temperature differences in molten glass in at least one temperature equalization zone that is in the form of a channel for transporting a glass melt. The equalization zone is located upstream from a tapping point, at which the glass is tapped into a mold in a forming machine, or the like. Resistor heating elements are provided in the temperature equalization zone side walls, bottom wall, and roof. The temperatures of the surfaces of the respective side walls, bottom wall, and roof that are in contact with the resistor heating elements are measured. The resistor heating elements are controlled by an electric controller so that the temperatures of the surfaces are substantially equal to a predetermined tapping temperature of the glass melt.

  • Patent number: 6783479
Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating an automatic transmission as a function of the engine rotational speed of a variable speed internal combustion engine. Upon a failure of the electronic control system, a return home of a motor vehicle under its own power is enabled. A delivery system delivers a working medium with which a transmission ratio adjusting device is actuated by a first control device that, in turn, is controlled by a pilot pressure that can be accurately changed by a second control device to actuate the transmission ratio adjusting device. The pilot pressure for controlling the first control device is changed by a third control device as a function of the rotational speed of the internal combustion engine when an adjusting device is switched out of a normal operation position into an emergency operation position.

  • Patent number: 6704098
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the contactless measuring of distances to aircraft when positioning the aircraft, such as when docking or parking. A scanning laser is arranged in front of the aircraft to be positioned and is directed toward a centerline along which an aircraft is to be moved in the course of positioning the aircraft. The laser emits measuring pulses stepwise or incrementally at different angles to detect a predetermined measurement volume. The laser is calibrated with the distance from the laser to the ground for at least some of the angles, and the distances at those angles is measured during positioning of an aircraft. The measured distances are compared with the calibrated distances, and the laser is considered to have measured the correct distance when there is a predetermined agreement between the measured distance and a calibrated distance corresponding with the same angle.

  • Patent number: 6695747
Abstract: A transmission system including a shift mechanism for operating and controlling the transmission system. To automatically detect geometric characteristic values of the transmission system or of the shifting device a selector motor and a shift motor actuate a selector finger that is displaceably mounted in a selection-shift-passageway layout. Starting from an initial position whose coordinates within the selection-shift-passageway layout are unknown, the selector finger is displaced in the directions of shifting and in the directions of selection in order to detect paths of movement in the direction of selection or shifting. The selector finger is repeatedly displaced to establish the maximum paths of movement until the predetermined transmission geometric characteristic values are completely detected. Also disclosed are a control device for controlling a transmission system that includes a shift mechanism, and a method for controlling such a transmission system.

  • Patent number: 6682299
Abstract: A trunnion support for a variable-position stator vane in a turbomachine. The stator vane includes an upper trunnion and a lower trunnion to allow the stator vane to be pivoted about a longitudinal axis. The lower trunnion is supported in a bushing that is carried in an opening provided in an annular stator vane carrier ring. The bushing is longitudinally split and is installed in the carrier ring while in a laterally compressed condition so that when installed in the carrier ring the bushing bears against the carrier ring opening in which it is positioned. When the carrier ring material expands with rising temperature, the pre-stress in the bushing will cause it to expand to maintain tight frictional engagement between the bushing and the opening and thereby prevent relative rotation between the bushing and the carrier ring to minimize wear of the carrier ring material.
