    Abstract: A rain gutter that includes an overlying, leaf- and debris-shedding cover. The gutter is in the form of a channel having an upwardly-facing opening. The cover overlies the channel opening and includes a convex front edge that is spaced from the front edge of the channel to define a gap or opening between the cover and the channel to allow water to flow around the convex front edge and into the channel. A series of support brackets are positioned within the gutter channel and interconnect the gutter and the cover to provide a rigid gutter structure. An end cap is provided at each end of the gutter and overlies both the gutter channel section and the space between the channel section and the cover, to prevent entry of leaves and debris into the channel through the ends of the gutter.

A user sends a user-specific code to a parking system computer via a mobile telephone system when beginning and terminating a parking period. The identity of the parking zone concerned is sent to the computer, in which a vehicle-specific code is stored and is tied to the user-specific code. A parking attendant uses a control unit for wirelessly fetching information concerning vehicles that have commenced but not terminated a parking period in the zone concerned. The control unit sends to a telephone coupled to the computer a voice message from the parking attendant that includes a vehicle registration number. The computer compares that registration number with the registration numbers of logged-in vehicles and sends to the control unit a voice message repeating the registration number and including information as to whether the vehicle is logged-in.

    Abstract: A friction clutch wherein a rotary housing supports a tiltable diaphragm spring and confines a pressure plate that is axially movably but non-rotatably mounted therein for movement toward and away from friction linings on a clutch disc between the pressure plate and a prime-mover-driven counterpressure plate. The diaphragm spring is arranged to urge the pressure plate in a direction to engage the clutch and is maintained in stressed condition within the housing, even when not installed in the power train of a motor vehicle. The diaphragm spring is installed so that it is operatively associated with the pressure plate in an elastically stressed condition. The pressure plate includes an annular portion that supports the diaphragm spring, and further supports a biasing arrangement that is radially offset relative to the supporting portion and that serves to maintain the diaphragm spring on the pressure plate in the resiliently stressed condition.

To automatically detect geometric characteristic values of the transmission system or of the shifting device a selector motor and a shift motor actuate a selector finger that is displaceably mounted in a selection-shift-passageway layout. Starting from an initial position whose coordinates within the selection-shift-passageway layout are unknown, the selector finger is displaced in the directions of shifting and in the directions of selection in order to detect paths of movement in the direction of selection or shifting. The selector finger is repeatedly displaced to establish the maximum paths of movement until the predetermined transmission geometric characteristic values are completely detected. Also disclosed are a control device for controlling a transmission system that includes a shift mechanism, and a method for controlling such a transmission system.

A material is produced that contains substantially Mo(Si1-xAlx)2 and Al2O3 by mixing a mixture of a silicon and molybdenum compound with an aluminum compound. Either of the silicon and molybdenum compounds include Mo(Si1-yAly)2 and are mixed with one or both of an aluminum compound in the form of Al2O3 or Al(OH)3 and optionally the compounds SiO2, Si, and MoO3, or by virtue of the mixture of the silicon and molybdenum compound containing MoO3 and Al and Si and/or SiO2. The input components together have a degree of purity corresponding to at least 98%. The mixture reacts exothermically and/or by being sintered, so that exchange reactions take place to form the compounds Mo(Si1-xAlx)2 and Al2O3, where x lies in the range of 0.4–0.6.

A slide having a permanent magnet is movable along a graduated rule, the caliper including a pair of legs, one leg attached to one end of the rule, and another leg attached to the slide. A wire extends within a longitudinal internal cavity in the rule and co-acts with a piezo crystal adjacent an end of the caliper. The wire is connected to a pulse generator that generates short electric pulses of predetermined duration. The caliper also includes a detector that co-acts with the piezo crystal and with the pulse generator pulses to detect a geometric change in the wire that is sensed by the piezo crystal, which emits an electrical pulse in response to that geometric change.
