  • Patent number: 4310284
Abstract: A propeller hub carries pivotally-mounted blades that are linked to a spring-loaded collar on the propeller shaft for automatic coning and feathering under predetermined high velocity movement along the propeller shaft to change the blade pitch angle during low wind velocity conditions. An airfoil support mounts a propeller shaft and turns therewith to reduce tower shadow effects. This is called a "down-wind system" meaning the propeller is behind the tower and causes the assembly to rotate into the wind without a tail vane.

  • Patent number: 4293178
Abstract: A coupling for an electric cable for connecting the cable to the wall of an electric outlet box so that the cable cannot be pulled free of the box, the cable wires being connected to the electrical unit in the box. A modified form of the device shows the coupling connecting the cable to an electric socket and again the cable cannot be pulled free of the socket. The coupling includes a cable receiving sleeve in which a plurality of longitudinally wedge-shaped grooves are provided. Wedges are inserted into the grooves and they are provided with teeth on their inner surfaces for gripping the cable. The inclination of the teeth is such as to grip the cable and prevent its withdrawal from the coupling.

  • Patent number: 4288169
Abstract: A fountain tooth brush having a hollow handle for holding toothpaste and a screw shaft with a piston movable when the screw shaft is rotated for forcing the toothpaste from the hollow handle through a passage and into the removable brush head for applying toothpaste to the bristles. The rear end of the hollow handle is closed by a snap-on cap and the interior of the cap has a non-circular recess for receiving the adjacent non-circular end of the screw shaft so that a rotation of the cap will rotate the screw shaft. The brush head has a threaded neck removably receivable in the interiorly threaded bore of the hollow handle at a concave handle surface and the neck has diametrically opposed projections against which the forward end of the screw shaft contacts to prevent any forward movement of the shaft when disengaged from the cap.

  • Patent number: 4284447
Abstract: A method of forming a panel structure useful in building construction and the like includes the steps of heating a heat expandable plastic in a separable mold having a cavity with the configuration of the resultant panel to form a panel core and adhering thin reinforcing strips to the front and back surfaces of the core. Control over the dimensions and configuration of the panel is obtained by adhering the strips to the core in the mold while applying heat thereto whereby core shrinkage is minimized. The strips may be adhered to the core during initial heating of the plastic material to form the core or may be adhered to the core in the mold subsequent to core formation.

  • Patent number: 4281326
Abstract: A warning system that operates with an existing radar system to display on the scope thereof a first pair of traces of adjustable maximum and minimum range defining an early warning collision range, provides a bearing trace through a radar-detected object or target and brackets the object with range lines across an adjustably limited bearing sector while actuating a warning alarm. The system also defines an alarm zone of lesser range than the warning zone and operates to activate a further alarm for any radar-detected object or target therein. Additionally, the system may incorporate a tow warning capability for identifying the straying of a towed barge, for example, from a predetermined tow zone.

  • Patent number: 4274886
Abstract: An endless train of dollies with means for continuously moving them in an oval path and in either direction, each dolly supporting a tray rack that in turn can removably support a plurality of trays in stacked relation. Bus boys load trays of soiled dishes into the tray racks at one station in the endless train of moving dollies. The endless train of moving dollies is positioned adjacent to a second endless train of moving dollies, each dolly in this second train supporting a basket for receiving soiled dishware and trays that a second bus boy standing in a second station positioned between the two endless trains of dollies transfers trays of soiled dishware with their trays from the tray racks to the baskets in the second endless conveyor. The trays are of novel construction and each one consists of a U-shaped casing in horizontal cross section.

  • Patent number: 4270492
Abstract: A quick hitch for animals, logs or the like in which a hitching rope is passed around the object to be hitched or tied and then has both ends extending through a cylinder. A catch swingably connected to one rope end has elongated aligned handles which straddle the cylinder end so that tightening of the other rope end draws the cylinder against the object to hitch or tie the object as to a hitching post or the like. The two aligned handles of the catch may have shoulders spaced apart a distance equal to the inner diameter of the cylinder to prevent any accidental lateral shifting of the catch with respect to the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4258668
Abstract: A closed pressurized feed water system supplying flash steam to a lower pressure process and with no steam loss in the closed system. The flash steam delivered to the lower pressure process is sufficient to reduce the pressure in the feed water system so that a steam trap in the closed system will operate and permit the hot condensate to be returned to the boiler. Also, new make up water may be added to the system to compensate for any steam loss. In the high pressure closed system about 96.68% of the condensate is returned to the boiler and only about 3.32% is needed for new make up water.

  • Patent number: 4250591
Abstract: A car wash in which sponge rollers are used and are yieldingly held against the top and two sides of the vehicle and are positioned in the car wash after the vehicle has been washed. The sponge rollers are compressed against the top and sides of the vehicle and will absorb the water film remaining on the vehicle. A vacuum shoe contacts each sponge roller and vacuum is used for removing any fluid in the sponge roller as the cylindrical surface of the roller moves under the shoe. The fluid withdrawn from the roller is conveyed to the sewer.

  • Patent number: 4251071
Abstract: The exercising device comprises an elongated elastic cord with a foot-receiving loop formed at each end and a hollow hand grip with an axial bore extending from end to end with a longitudinally extending split permitting one or two lengths of the elastic rope to be inserted into the bore. The hand grip may be squeezed by the hand for causing the wall of the bore to frictionally grip the rope. The hand muscles are exercised by this squeezing action on the hand grip and the arm and shoulder muscles are exercised when the hand grip pulls on the rope to elongate it.

  • Patent number: 4249789
Abstract: Twin electric sockets for an electric outlet box in which three electrodes are mounted in each socket and three bus bars electrically interconnect the electrodes in one socket with their associate electrodes in the other socket. A common base supports both sockets and it has two slots for removably receiving two of the bus bars. The ends of these two bus bars are bent so as to extend upwardly in the two sockets and these upturned ends receive their associate electrodes and make electrical connection therewith when the electrodes are mounted in the sockets. The third bus bar is inserted into a longitudinally extending slot in the base by means of an opening in the base that is in registration with the longitudinal slot. This third bus bar as an integral loop at one end for receiving an integral tongue on the third electrode when it is inserted into its associate socket. The opposite end of the third bus bar is frictionally engaged by an electrode in the other socket that has an integral yoke.

  • Patent number: 4241555
Abstract: A building panel has an expanded plastic core with thin reinforcing strips bonded to front and back surfaces of the core, at least along the edges thereof, and may have a wire grid attached in offset relation to one surface thereof for receiving a material such as concrete. The panel is manufactured by a process of expanding a plastic material in a mold by the application of heat to form a core, removing the core from the mold, placing thin reinforcing strips on front and back surfaces of the core with an adhesive system between strips and core, returning the core to the mold and heating the interior of the mold to bond the strips to the core and achieve dimensional stability during molding.

  • Patent number: 4236654
Abstract: A portable apparatus for blowing a chemically treated cellulose insulating material into an attic, wall cavity or wet spraying the material against a surface for insulating it. The apparatus breaks the cellulose material into small particles and, after fluffing the material, the apparatus meters and feeds the material under pressure through a hose and out through a nozzle where an operator can point the nozzle for directing the material to any desired area. Three different nozzles are used: one for attic insulation; a second for filling wall cavities; and a third for wet spraying the material against a surface for causing the material to adhere to the surface.
