  • Patent number: 7837255
Abstract: Load input to an impact detector can be increased when a localized load is input, in comparison to when load is input to a comparatively wide region. In the vehicle side door structure 10, when a localized load is input, for example due to an impact to an outer panel 18 of a pole, or the like, to a length direction intermediate portion of an impact beam 26, via the outer panel 18, the outer panel 18 locally approaches the inner panel 20 side due to the length direction intermediate portion of the impact beam 26 bending, and a load is input to the vehicle width direction outer-edge portion of the sensing bracket 32. As a result, load is transmitted to the inner panel 20, via the horizontal section 32B and an inner-side joint section 32A of the sensing bracket 32, and also load (acceleration, displacement or the like) is input to an acceleration sensor 40 attached to the inner panel 20.

  • Patent number: 7836557
Abstract: Handles allow hand tools, implements or other utensils to operate within their arc of natural use, motion and attack without requiring extension, flexion, radial deviation, or ulnar deviation of the wrist from the neutral plane of the forearm. The preferred embodiments further include a grip shaped to increase the effectiveness of the tool and minimize antagonism between muscles and tendons of the wrist, forearm and upper arm, while maximizing the effectiveness of the gripping force delivered to it by the user. Maintaining the wrist and forearm in a neutral position increases a tool user's potential strength by increasing the synergy between large muscles of the forearm and upper arm and shoulders. It also decreases compression of the tendons and nerves in the carpal tunnel and between the wrist and forearm.

  • Patent number: 7834474
Abstract: The present invention relates to a wave energy conversion device (1), for use in relatively shallow water, which has a base portion (2) for anchoring to the bed of a body of water (6) and an upstanding flap portion (8) pivotally connected (12) to the base portion. The flap portion is biased to the vertical and oscillates, backwards and forwards about the vertical in response to wave motion acting on its faces. Power extraction means extract energy from the movement of the flap portion. When the base portion (2) is anchored to the bed of a body of water (6) with the flap portion (8) facing the wave motion, the base portion (2) and the flap portion (8) extend vertically through at least the entire depth of the water, to present a substantially continuous surface to the wave motion throughout the full depth of water from the wave crest to the sea bed. A plurality of devices can be interconnected to form one system. The distance between the plurality of flaps is dependent on the wavelength.

  • Patent number: 7831386
Abstract: A navigation system and method uses loops as opposed to existing search techniques to more expeditiously find routes on a map from a starting point to a destination. Roads on a map are traced to form one or more continuous loops. Information regarding the loops is stored for future reference. A starting point and at least one destination are specified, and loops that connect the loops containing the starting point and destination are determined. A route is then formulated from the starting point to the destination using road segments or intersections where the identified loops are mutually contiguous. A list is generated including the loops and the road segments associated therewith. The road segments of an initial loop are examined and, if a road segment or intersection common to a next loop is identified, the road segments of that loop are examined, and so on, until a route from the starting point to the destination is found.

  • Patent number: 7831350
Abstract: The present invention is operative to disable at least one infotainment device under certain conditions relative to the current driving environment of the user. The system uses a weighted matrix to assign risk to certain sensed conditions while driving. A changed condition is assigned a weight and the weighted risks are summed to calculate risk level information. The risk level information is thereafter compared to priority level information associated with at least one infotainment device. When the risk level information exceeds or is equal to the priority level information of the at least one infotainment device the system temporarily disables the infotainment device until the driving environment changes to a condition where it is safe to operate the infotainment device.

  • Patent number: 7829637
Abstract: A molding composition is provided that includes a thermoset cross-linkable polymeric resin, a fibrous filler and a thickener system. The thickener system includes an amine and an isocyanate that are reactive to form a polyurea. The polyurea is operative to thicken the molding composition formulation prior to polymeric resin thermoset with superior properties relative to conventional thickener systems. A molded article produced from a cross-linked thermoset polymeric resin containing fibrous filler and a polyurea present from 1 to 5 total weight percent of the article either forms an interpenetrating network between the resin and the polyurea or the resin and polyurea crosslink upon resin thermoset to further strengthen the resulting article. An alkali earth oxide or hydroxide simultaneously thickens through interaction with carboxylate functionality of the cross-linkable resin to provide a superior viscosity build and humidity tolerance.

  • Patent number: 7828094
Abstract: A driving system, vehicle, and control method in which a difference between the detection value of an intake air pressure sensor and an atmospheric pressure sensor is computed as a detection value difference in the engine stop condition. An estimate of a potential for an abnormality of the detection value difference is determined, or the abnormality of the detection value difference is determined according to the duration time of an unusual state having the detection value difference of greater than a preset reference value. In an ignition-on state, when a delayed activation is requested, it is identified whether the abnormality in the detection value difference is to be determined. The delayed activation is requested in response to confirmation of a potential abnormality condition where there is a potential for an abnormality in the detection value difference but the abnormality in the detection value difference is not determined.
