  • Patent number: 6141381
Abstract: In a video motion compensation encoding apparatus in which each of periodically selected pictures is encoded as successive blocks of picture elements, by encoding of the prediction error amounts obtained for each block in conjunction with variable-length encoding by a motion vector encoder of motion vectors which are utilized in motion compensation processing to derive the prediction error amounts, each of these motion vectors is selected by a comparator-controlled switch either as an estimated motion vector derived by a conventional type of motion estimation section or as a predicted motion vector derived by a motion vector prediction section based on previously encoded motion vectors, with the estimated motion vector being selected only if it is found that an amount of prediction error which would occur from using the predicted motion vector is significantly greater than that which would result from using the estimated motion vector.

  • Patent number: 6134194
Abstract: A reproducing apparatus is provided which can reproduce information in a predetermined order with a simple operation. The apparatus has a reader for reading out information from a recording medium on which a plurality pieces of information are recorded. An actuator changes a relative position of the reader and the recording medium. A signal generator generates a signal corresponding to a predetermined operation. When the reader is reading out information, an access operation controller switches the operation mode of the apparatus from a play mode to a stop mode. The access operation controller then controls the actuator to change the relative position of the reader and the recording medium so that the subsequent information is set ready to be read out.

  • Patent number: 6134556
Abstract: A method for searching a triangle on which an object lies while the object moves on a trigonometric grid, wherein the triangle is one of the constituents of the trigonometric grid approximately representing a terrain, is provided. For the search, first, the inventive method retrieves information on a present triangle and predicts a next location after a predetermined time interval from the present time. Then, a nearest vertex is found, the nearest vertex referring to a vertex of the present triangle being nearest to a present location of the object and candidate triangles sharing the nearest vertex are selected. Finally, it is determined whether or not the next location lies on each candidate triangle.

  • Patent number: 6126274
Abstract: This invention provides a new and improved image-forming apparatus which is of relatively easy manufacture and which provides a clear, sharp image. This apparatus is an "ink jet" printer which utilizes a liquid dispersion of toner as the image-forming material. The liquid dispersant is dielectric relative to the toner particles. The toner particles agglomerate when placed under an electric charge and these agglomerated particles are ejected in accordance with an image signal. The toner forms an image on an image holder which is transferred to a recording medium such as paper. This invention has the provision for four-color printing.

  • Patent number: 6128341
Abstract: In an apparatus for performing motion estimation (ME) on a block of N.times.M pixels in a current frame based on a predetermined reference frame (RF), a block divider divides the block into subblocks (SB's) of K.times.L pixels and then classifies the SB's into A-group SB's and B-group SB's in accordance with the rule that all of the SB's in a same group be diagonally adjacent to each other. A first and a second decision circuits decide pixels satisfying a first and a second predetermined conditions among the pixels in the ASB's as A-group representative pixels (ARP's) and in the BSB's as B-group representative pixels (BRP's), respectively, wherein the first predetermined condition is different from the second predetermined condition. A sample block generator combines the ARP's with the BRP's to generate a sample block. And then, RF subsampling circuit generates a sample RF (SRF) by subsampling the predetermined RF in accordance with the same subsampling method described above.
