Abstract: An expansion joint and seal structure for the variable width space between roadway, bridge or like sections subject to expansion and contraction is provided in the form of an elongate elastomer member having spaced transverse passages of generally rectangular cross section with rounded corners in which metal bars of like cross section but shorter length are inserted, both the passages and bars have cooperating indexing devices which center the bars in each passage spaced equidistant from the ends thereof so as to maintain them over the space between the roadway, bridge or like sections.

Abstract: Improved plastic-loop packing elements of the type comprising an approximation of a filamentous toroidal helical shape. A process and tower using the elements are also claimed. The improved packing comprises spline web means connecting adjacent loop members and a centerpost structure.
Abstract: A process of decorating molded, cultured-marble products comprising the steps of applying a release coating to the inner bottom surface of a mold, applying a hardenable transparent acrylic gel on the release coating hardening the gel, hand-painting, with an acrylic paint, a colorful design on the surface of the hardened gel coat, casting a hardenable cultured marble mix in the mold over the gel coat and painted design and allowing the marble mix to harden before removing the resultant decorated cultured marble molding from the mold.
Abstract: Novel coating apparatus and method whereby a coating transfer roll is utilized as part of the coating composition reservoir and kinetic energy from said roll is a principal and effective means to keep the coating composition effectively agitated.
Abstract: A clutch means particularly useful in the rapid and precise alignment of a large number of rotating members such as take-up reels on a single shaft. Each rotating member, e.g., each reel-hub member, is positively engaged by a resilient and non-fouling spring member which is readily inserted into conventional clutch means and which comprises a cam means to facilitate the sliding passage of a number of reels onto a shaft as well as locking means to couple the clutch means and the reels to be rotated thereon.
Abstract: A novel process for placing a thin film of a metal nitride, e.g. titanium nitride, on a glass substrate by mixing a metal halide with a reducing gas like ammonia, preferably within a range of from about 250.degree. C. to 320.degree. C., and then reacting the gases at the surface of a glass substrate heated to, e.g., about 400.degree. C. to about 700.degree. C. to form the film on the glass.
Abstract: Apparatus for continuous of mixing two reactants in proximity to an object upon which a reaction product is to be coated continuously and uniformly means is provided for maintaining reactants from premature contact. The reactant-feed holes are placed at a distance above the surface to be coated to optimize the combination of manufacturing practicality and the precision with which the holes can be economically formed.
Abstract: An improved process for making a printed circuit board of the type comprising solder-rooted pads and a solder-coated internal wall of each hole in the circuit board. The new process comprises the step of masking over a dry film, e.g. an alkaline ink film, after copper plating and before solder plating. In one embodiment of the invention, a selectively-plated thin layer of solder to act as a resist except on the areas defined by hole pads and barrels but is wholly free of solder which can melt and cause solder-migration problems under the surface of the printed circuit board.
Abstract: A means for automatically replacing tool means on a robot arm comprising a novel automatically releasable tool means, comprising electrical control conduits communicating with said robot and, in proper circumstance, with a tool rack to signal its position and condition on said rack.
Abstract: A compact robot of the 3-axis type comprising a base-mounted motor control system with means to sense the position of a robot arm through a servo-system comprising position-sensing potentiometers mounted in the motor control system and a feed-back control system to co-ordinate the vertical and horizontal movement of a robot arm.

Abstract: Novel dual conduit clamp assembly of particular use in starting storage batteries. The assembly is one of the type known as a "jump cord" assembly and is characterized by (1) a smaller spacing of positive and negative clamps at one end thereof and (2) a substantially larger spacing of clamps at the other end thereof.
Abstract: A quickly and easily assembled, fastener-free baffle system for use with agitated reaction vessels. The novel baffle system is characterized by its ability to be disassembled into easily-cleanable parts, its lack of independent fastening means such as screws, welds, rivets, etc. and the easy interchangeability of its parts.
Abstract: An improved weatherstripping door seal of the bellows type comprising an aluminum flange holding a polymeric bellows unit which helps shield the flange from contact with one opening a door.
Abstract: A web, for instance magnetic tape, is cleaned by pulling it across a plurality of scraper bars. Simultaneously, a cleaning fluid such as air is moved from below the web, upwardly and laterally across its downwardly facing front surface, while cleaning fluid is also moved from above said web, laterally away from the web and downwardly past the side edges of the web.
Abstract: A robot system comprising readily interchangeable hands. Usually the system will be controlled by a computer which will communicate with servo motors in each hand through an analog pulse width generator on the robot. The computer controller will also be able to utilize robot-associated circuitry to obtain information directly from each hand.
Abstract: A versatile mixing nozzle for dispensing polyphase fuels into a combustion zone of a boiler. The nozzle is characterized by a plurality of mixing chambers, a relatively low pressure-drop spray nozzle design and a stationary dispersing disk and radiation-protective shield partially projecting in front of the nozzle outlet ports.
Abstract: A process for the treatment of asphaltene-bearing fuel oils to reduce the amount of acid-smut in stack gas often emitted during the combustion of such fuels. The fuel is passed through a liquid shearing apparatus, with the addition of controlled amounts of water, to substantially reduce the size of the asphaltene particles. Generally, the treated oil will have a majority of asphaltene particles with a diameter of less than 2 microns, and substantially all asphaltene particles with a diameter of 7 microns or less. The processed fuel will also have uniformly dispersed asphaltene particles.
Abstract: A novel silver powder paint composition characterized by a very low fusion, or film-forming temperature, probably assignable to the relatively small amount of oxides or other undesirable occulsions within coatings formed of the powder. The invention also relates to a new process for forming such a powder; the process is believed to involve the formation of a fatty-acid silver reaction product of the surface on the silver powder before it is subjected to fusion into a metallic coating. During fusion the decomposing reactant seems to act as a flux aiding the formation of a metal film of superior appearance and strength.
