  • Patent number: 4977651
Abstract: A covering device for the inlet and outlet slots of a tenter comprises a flexible plastic strip whose ends are fastened in the region of the ends of the respective slot. In the area where the chain rail guides extend through the slot, the plastic strip is deflected in U-shaped configuration by deflector elements outside the slot and spanning the chain guides. The deflector elements are angularly oriented relative to the longitudinal axis of the slot at an angle of about 45 degrees and are fastened on a movable carriage connected to the chain guides so that movement of the chain guides transversely of the slot functions also to move the U-shaped configuration of the flexible plastic strip.

  • Patent number: 4946114
Abstract: A yarn roll carrier tube and method of employing same to effect uniform compression of a yarn roll mounted on said tube is disclosed. The tube includes a central compressible portion, a contoured portion at one end, and an annular opening having a recessed stop portion at the other end. The tubes are sized such that the contoured portion may be inserted into and frictionally retained within the annular opening of a similar tube by a predetermined mount dictated by the position of said stop shoulder by the exertion of a compressive force exerted by one said tube against the other. Yarn rolls mounted on adjacent said tubes are partially compressed by the insertion of one tube into the other into said nested position, said insertion resulting in a preferential compression of the central portions of the yarn rolls. Subsequent compressive forces of a greater magnitude when exerted against the tubes result in axial foreshortening of the tubes and greater compression of the yarn rolls.

  • Patent number: 4935843
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a ceramic capacitor of the lead filled type includes coating the ends of the ceramic monolith with a terminating paste incorporating oxidizable metal particles characterized in that the lead will not wet to oxides of the metals but will wet to unoxidized or lightly oxidized increments of the metals. The paste is fused in an oxidizing environment or is fused in an inert environment and thereafter heated in an oxidizing environment with the result that the metal increments adjacent the exterior of the fused coating are oxidized whereas the metal at the interior portions of the paste are unoxidized or only slightly oxidized. Upon metal injection, the lead will wet to the interior portions of the fused paste but will not wet to the exterior of the paste whereby injected chips may be readily separated and whereby the size of the chip is rendered predictable due to the absence of adherent lead.

  • Patent number: 4903166
Abstract: An improved method of forming electrostrictive actuators or capacitors is disclosed. A stack of green ceramic sheets is formed, a surface of the sheets including areas of electrode forming material and other areas of heat dispersible material. The electrodes of opposite polarity are exposed at opposite surfaces of the stack and areas of dispersible material intervene between the exposed edges of the electrode ink margins. An actuator fabricated in accordance with the method may be terminated without fear of shorting between adjacent layers and the resultant actuator will be essentially free of dielectric bonding whereby, when used as an actuator, a high degree of expansion will be achieved. The invention is further directed to a preform fabricated in accordance with the method of the invention.

  • Patent number: 4896613
Abstract: A blast resistant composite section comprises a base section (1), an intermediate section (2), and a solid, bombardment-inhibiting cover section (3). On a side toward the intermediate section (2) the cover section (3) is provided with depressions which form in each instance a groove (9) whose cross-section widens outward in wedge form. Elastically pivotable projections(8) integrally formed with the intermediate section (2) each engage in a groove (9) and are provided in the region of their free edge with an edge (10) of nose-shaped cross section protruding to one side. In the region of the bottom of each groove (9) a lateral enlargement (11) adapted to the cross section of the edge (10) is provided. Due to this design, the cover section (3) can be non-releasably connected to the intermediate section (2) by forces exterted on the cover in a direction perpendicular to the length of the section.

  • Patent number: 4896433
Abstract: In the regions of a drying zone within a tunnel (2) exposed to fire danger a sample of the air streams is drawn off via an intake pipe (11) disposed transversely to the longitudinal extent of the tunnel. The sample is supplied to a measuring device which contains two regeneratable filters which are alternatingly acted upon by the sample via switch-over valves. The measuring device contains a sensor acted upon by the cleansed gas which sensor reacts to CO and is connected to an alarm system and or an extinguisher device. From the extinguisher device an extinguisher agent line (16) leads to an extinguisher pipe (14) which is likewise in the direction of flow of the air steam guided through the tunnel (2) arranged transversely to the longitudinal extent of the tunnel (2) and provided with extinguisher agent exit nozzles.

  • Patent number: 4885885
Abstract: A joint bridging arrangement comprises a bridging unit having a central portion, side parts, and anchoring units adjoining the longitudinal sides of the side parts. The side parts are pivotably connected to the central portion for movement about a pivot axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bridging arrangement. Cleats or legs of the side part and anchoring unit are interengaged and relatively slidable at an acute angle relative to the upper side of the center part. The upper-most surface of the bridging unit includes a portion having a wedge shaped cross section corresponding to the acute angle so that the transition from the bridging to the anchoring units, and hence to the structural parts bridged by the joint is essentially stepless.

  • Patent number: 4854248
Abstract: For framing plate type panels a composite section is used which is fitted together from a center part (3) and two lateral parts (4,5). The stay type center part (3) has two stay segments (6,7 ) which are spaced from each other and connected together through a pair of insulating strips 8. On the side away from the respective panels (1,2) the two lateral parts (4,5) are provided with reinforcement sections (10). Threaded studs (12) distributed at intervals over the length of the composite section connect the reinforcement sections (10) and hence the section parts disposed therebetween with one another. This results in a stable union of the composite section, which not only is given a bombardment-inhibiting effect by the reinforcement sections (10), but also is able to withstand high tensile stresses of the center part (3) and to prevent deformations of the lateral parts (4,5).

  • Patent number: 4806910
Abstract: The monitoring arrangement consists of permanent magnets (M1, M2, M3) of different strengths which are associated with a closure mechanism. Combined in a structural unit (1), these act as signal transmitters. The structural unit (1), is, for example, so positioned in door leaf that, in the closed position of the mechanism the permanent magnets (M1, M2, M3) lie opposite sensors (S1, S2, S3) which are associated with a surrounding frame. These sensors combined in a structural unit (2), act as signal pick-ups, at which different voltages, which are increased by amplifiers V1, V2, V3, are applied as a result of differing magnetic field strengths. The output voltages thereof are adjustable by respective potentiometers and can be regulated to the threshold voltages of comparators (K1to K6).
