  • Patent number: 4694526
Abstract: An apparatus for the treatment of a textile web supported on a tenter by contact with a heated treatment medium is disclosed. The apparatus includes a nozzle box or boxes having openings directed toward a fabric web to be treated. A by-pass opening is provided for conducting the treatment medium from the compression to the suction side of a circulating apparatus. The cross sectional area of the by-pass opening is substantially identical to the total of the cross sectional areas of the nozzles of the nozzle box, whereby the flow resistance of the treatment medium is independent to whether flow is through the nozzle openings or through the by-pass opening or some combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 4694954
Abstract: An article of manufacture comprising a compact disc and convertible package therefor is disclosed. The device comprises a blank divided into four panel members by cruciform pairs of parallel intersecting fold lines. A flap portion is formed adjacent a surface of at least one of said panels and the compact disc is received between the flap and panel. In the merchandizing mode, a stiffener member is interposed between the leaves formed by double height panels, the components being held together by an encompassing film which is preferably transparent. The device may be converted to the storage mode by removing the film, discarding the stiffener member, and folding the panels about the cruciform fold lines to provide a structure in which the disc is encompassed between four thicknesses of material.

  • Patent number: 4680670
Abstract: A fail safe monolithic ceramic capacitor is disclosed, said capacitor being characterized in that a short circuit between an adjacent pairs of layers of electrode material functions merely to remove the shorted layers from the capacitor circuit leaving a capacitor which is intact but of a lower capacitive value. The capacitor includes a fuse defining a heating element which lies adjacent an external thin band of metal interposed between the fuse and a termination. Any overheating of the fuse results in a melting and shrinkage of the external band of metal with consequent disconnection of the pair of shorted electrodes.

  • Patent number: 4671325
Abstract: A compression seal between opposed faces (3 & 4) of two metal members (1 & 2) comprises a metal ring (5) having a relatively thin annular web (7) and thickened beads (8 & 9) at its inner and outer peripheries defining an annular trough on each side of the web. The beads terminate in knife edges (10), washers (6) of deformable material are located on each side of the web (7) and project above the level of the knife edges (10). When the assembly is axially compressed, the deformable washers fill the troughs and any excess material is cut off as the knife edges (10) contact the members (1 & 2) thereby presenting a continuous metal surface to the exterior.

  • Patent number: 4670977
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for rapidly and accurately inserting axial lead components such as capacitors and resistors or the like into printed circuit boards mounted in an X-Y PC board positioning device. In accordance with the invention a plurality of magazines each of which contain a multiplicity of the components are loaded into a receiver chute of the apparatus. The apparatus functions, responsive to a signal from the PC positioning device, to remove an individual component from a magazine, deflect the leads to a position at right angles to the body of the component and insert the thus formed leads accurately into spaced apertures of the PC board which have been manuvered by the X-Y apparatus to a component receiver station. The device includes means for automatically removing exhausted magazines and replacing the same with filled magazines.

  • Patent number: 4656756
Abstract: For a method for heat-treating textile material, and for a tenter for carrying out the method, it is proposed to control the textile web velocity as a function of the point on the treatment path at which the maximum deviation in the amount of energy spent per unit time occurs. To determine this point on the treatment path it is not necessary, therefore, to measure the momentary temperature of the textile material directly or the temperatures of the treatment medium flowing in and out. Instead, it suffices to determine the individual valve positions which indicate the amounts of energy supplied per unit time, and to infer therefrom the site of the treatment path where the drying process is completed and the fixing process sets in.

  • Patent number: 4597143
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for reprofiling the wheels of a railroad wheelset by circumferentially milling the wheelset while the wheels are driven and partly supported by drive rollers, the wheelset being partly supported at its bearing housing. Before profile milling, a reference surface is created by a turning operation as base for measuring the radial infeed of the profile milling cutter. The turning tool required is disposed on the profile milling cutter which is lockable secure against rotation. By coordinating the position of the milling devices with the position of the respective turning devices a positional relation is automatically established between the milling device and the axis of the wheelset.

  • Patent number: 4584629
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of manufacturing ceramic capacitors and to the resulting capacitors. In accordance with the method a ceramic monolithic body having void areas extending to edge portions thereof is filled with molten metallic material, the edge portions to which the voids connect being previously coated with a thin layer of metallic material wettable by the injected molten metal. The injected material bonds to the predeposited metal layer with the result that the injected metal is retained within the void areas of the ceramic body. The invention is further directed to a capacitor made in accordance with the described method.
