  • Patent number: 6568396
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for visually guiding a person's head into a position sequence necessary to allow abnormally positioned crystals to fall out of a posterior membranous semicircular canal to relieve the symptoms of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. The apparatus includes a fluid suspended, buoyancy neutral inner member, which has printed upon it a sequentially numbered series of position bull's eyes, which are connected by a path printed on the inner member. The inner member is contained within a transparent, watertight outer housing, which has a sighting marking printed upon it. The device is attached to the user's head in a manner such that the outer housing sighting marking and an aligned inner member position bull's eyes can be seen by the user. The inner member has a magnet which keeps it aligned with a magnetic field with the outer housing being movable about the inner member.

  • Patent number: 6401842
Abstract: The apparatus includes an annular cam rotatably located in a housing with a drill shaft extending through the cam and housing. The shaft can be rotated for drilling purposes and be moved longitudinally in the housing for shifting purposes. The cam has grooves in its outer surface for receiving a cam follower carried by the shaft which rotates the cam as the shaft is moved longitudinally for shifting purposes. The shaft may be moved longitudinally in one direction to a position to engage members of a clutch such that when the shaft rotates, it rotates the housing. The shaft is movable in an opposite direction to disengage the clutch members and then is movable to locate the cam follower in the groove at different positions to allow the operator to control the longitudinal position of the shaft for turning purposes or for drilling straight.

  • Patent number: 6328104
Abstract: A process is disclosed for the in situ conversion and recovery of heavy crude oils and natural bitumens from subsurface formations using either a continuous operation with one or more vertical injection boreholes and one or more vertical production boreholes in which multiple, uncased, horizontal boreholes may extend from the vertical boreholes, or a cyclic operation whereby both injection and production occur in the same vertical boreholes in which multiple, uncased, horizontal boreholes may extend from the vertical boreholes. A mixture of reducing gases, oxidizing gases, and steam are fed to downhole combustion devices located in the injection boreholes. Combustion of the reducing gas-oxidizing gas mixture is carried out to produce superheated steam and hot reducing gases for injection into the formation to convert and upgrade the heavy crude or bitumen into lighter hydrocarbons.
