  • Patent number: 4395251
Abstract: A chain tensioning device comprises a pair of arms 2, 3 which are pivoted together and urged apart so that the arm 3 applies a tensioning force to a chain by means of a spring loaded cam block 5. A catch disc 9 and rod 8 arrangement is provided to prevent return movement of the spring loaded block and hence collapse of the arm 3 under load reversals of the chain.

  • Patent number: 4386922
Abstract: A power transmission chain-belt as disclosed is especially adaptable to transmit power between the pulleys of a pulley transmission, the pulleys of which are each constructed of a pair of flanges. The chain-belt comprises a plurality of sets of interleaved links joined by pivot means, and a set of at least three generally V-shaped or trapezoidal load blocks located between each adjacent pair of pivot means. Each load block has a central opening permitting its assembly with the links, and edge surfaces to drivingly contact the pulley flanges. The central opening of the load blocks has a height greater than the height of the links, so as to define a space therebetween. Resilient means, such as a curved leaf spring, is positioned between each set of links in the space between the chain and the central opening of a set of load blocks to apply a force on the load blocks of each set.

  • Patent number: 4375291
Abstract: A pump assembly having an impeller for pumping a fluid from an intake to an outlet, a prime mover for driving the impeller, and a primary mechanical seal assembly between the prime mover and the impeller which is located in a housing. The mechanical seal assembly substantially prevents leakage of the fluid being pumped along a shaft connecting the impeller and the prime mover. A secondary mechanical seal means is located in the housing between the prime mover and the mechanical seal assembly. The secondary seal means is constructed of a material, such as carbon, which will collapse under pressure of the fluid being pumped upon failure of the primary mechanical seal assembly, to substantially prevent the leakage of fluid along the shaft and to the exterior of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4313730
Abstract: A flexible power transmission means comprising an assembly of a chain constructed of a plurality of sets of interleaved links joined to its next adjacent set by a pin, and load blocks surrounding the chain and located between the next adjacent pins. Additional load blocks may be located over the pins. The load blocks are generally contoured at their edges to fit into the V of a pulley. • Patent number: 4305892
Abstract: Charge forming apparatus such as a carburetor of the fluid jet type in which fuel is supplied to a pair of tubular members, which may be of equal or different diameters, disposed across a housing opening through which air flows, the velocity of which is controlled by a throttle valve or damper means. Each tubular member is constructed with a generally upwardly directed slot or fuel gap, such that the air strips fuel therefrom. Excess fuel from the tubular members is returned to the source. In the specific apparatus, one tubular member is located upstream in the housing from the other, the lower tubular member being located closely adjacent to the location of initial opening of the air throttle valve or damper. The throttle valve or damper may be of the iris type or of the type having a pair of vanes pivoted outwardly of the center thereof, so as to initially open at the center thereof. At small throttle openings, air flowing to the engine is concentrated over the fuel gap of the lower member.

  • Patent number: 4285493
Abstract: A fail-safe-open actuator for actuating valves and the like which comprises a pair of opposed cylinders joined to define piston chambers, the axes of which are generally perpendicular to a valve stem. Pistons in the cylinders are connected to the valve stem by toggle links, the pistons being resiliently urged toward the ends of the assembly which corresponds to an open-valve position. To close the valve, a pressurized fluid, such as air, is introduced into the piston chambers and to the pistons at sufficient pressure to counter the resilient means so as to move the pistons away from their rest, valve-open positions, and thus move the valve stem perpendicularly to the axis of the piston chamber. A handwheel is provided to manually close the valve by moving the pistons from their rest positions.A solenoid controlled pneumatic valve may be used to control the supply of pressurized fluid, such as air, to the actuator.

  • Patent number: 4262786
Abstract: A drive coupling for selectively disengaging a driving shaft and a driven shaft upon rotation of the driving shaft in one direction. The coupling comprises a pair of one-way clutches and a one space ratchet means so arranged to couple the shafts when the driving shaft is rotating in the normal direction and to uncouple the shafts upon the opposite rotation of the driving shaft. The coupling device is capable of remote operation as by reversing the current flow to the motor.Such a device provides a convenient means for coupling and uncoupling pump stages in a submersible pump thus permitting adjustment of the performance of the pump by the addition or subtraction of pump stages without pulling the entire assembly from the well.

  • Patent number: 4246996
Abstract: A remotely operable drive coupling for selectively engaging and disengaging a driving shaft and a driven shaft operable in accordance with the direction of shaft rotation. The coupling comprises a splined axially movable member connected to the driven shaft and having a screw-threaded bore, and a screw-threaded terminal part on the driving shaft adapted to be threadably received in the threaded bore when the driving shaft is rotated in one direction and the axially movable member is urged toward and in engagement with the terminal part of the driving shaft coupling the two members. Upon rotation of the driving shaft in the opposite direction, the parts become unscrewed and the axially movable part is resiliently urged away from the driving shaft uncoupling the members. The device can be controlled hydraulically, pneumatically or electrically.
