Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved spindle unit. The spindle unit includes a body, an external shaft placed into the body and rotating on bearings relative to the body, and an internal shaft placed into the external shaft and coupled thereto. The spindle unit further includes front and rear static journal bearings and a thrust bearing between the external and internal shafts. Flow control valves are provided which have their outlets connected to recesses communicating with the rear and front journal bearings. Operation of the valves in response to measured parameters controls the position of the internal shaft relative to the rotation axis of the external shaft. This is accomplished by controlling the flow of fluid to recesses associated with the front and rear journal bearings. By controlling the position of the internal shaft, one can insure that a workpiece attached to the internal shaft is automatically centered.

The first stage pyrotechnic substance is separated from a pyrotechnic substance of the second stage by a metal plate, one face of which is in contact with the first stage pyrotechnic substance and whose other face is adjacent a cavity which separates it from the second stage pyrotechnic substance and whose edge portion bears against the end of a confinement member confining the second stage pyrotechnic substance.

Abstract: Described is a pencil with two refills at mutually opposite ends. Both refills are axially displaceable. Adjusting spindles respectively serve for axial displacement, of which a first adjusting spindle is tubular and there is at least one first operating position in which the second adjusting spindle projects with its end remote from the second refill into the first adjusting spindle. According to the invention it is provided that there is at least one second operating position in which the second adjusting spindle does not project with its end remote from the second refill into the first adjusting spindle. There is also provided a guide means which is not identical to the first adjusting spindle, for preventing the end, remote from the second refill, of the second adjusting spindle from tilting transversely with respect to the axial direction at least in the second operating position.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a spindle unit which is able two work both in a low speed powerful roughing regime and medium and high speed precision semi-finishing and finishing. The spindle unit includes a body, a shaft placed into the body, journal bearings between the body and the shaft, and at least one journal-thrust ball bearing assembly placed between the body and the shaft. A hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder is used to move the shaft in an axial direction. The spindle unit further has a pad placed on at least one side of the hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder. As a result of this construction, the spindle unit can work as a fully restricted spindle unit with and without additional ball bearing support.
Abstract: A process mass flow apparatus for measuring the mass flow rate of a powdered, granulated or otherwise substantially divided process solid, seeds, grains, or similar particulate materials includes a process material inlet, a process material outlet, a measuring chamber connecting the process material inlet and the process material outlet, comprising a movable element with a fixed axis of rotation located in the flow path of the process material and having attached to the axis of rotation a material flow sensor which provides a raw output signal corresponding to an unknown mass flow rate and a processor which contains an empirically derived calibration function for converting the raw output signal to an adjusted signal indicating the mass flow rate of the process fluid.

Abstract: A fuel-filler inlet for motor vehicles comprises a closure neck, an insert associated with the closure neck, a filling chamber downstream of the insert, and a filling tube downstream of the filling chamber which leads to a fuel tank. In order to achieve good guidance of the fuel nozzle, reliable response of the expansion port and ventilation during the fuel-dispensing operation, a collar is provided between the filling chamber and filling tube, the internal diameter of which is somewhat larger than that of the opening tube of a fuel nozzle. The collar provides through-passage openings which, with the fuel nozzle inserted, produce a flow connection between the filling tube and filling chamber.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system for thermally profiling preforms prior to blow molding. The system includes a pallet for holding a plurality of preforms and a station, such as a heating oven, for thermally conditioning the preforms. In a first embodiment, the pallet comprises a self aligning pallet which is movable towards and away from the heating oven. In a second embodiment, the pallet holding the preforms is fixed in position and the heating oven is movable towards and away from the preforms. The pallet further includes rotatable mandrels for supporting the preforms and a programmable motor for rotating the preforms a desired amount and at a desired speed.

Abstract: A tip clearance control device for a gas turbine engine having a shroud surrounding a stage of rotor blades. The tip clearance control device comprises a one-piece split ring having opposed overlapping end portions. Abstract: The present invention relates to gene and peptide sequences of a diabetes-specific endogenous retrovirus which is derived from type 1 diabetes patients. In particular, the present invention relates to a whole genome of the diabetes-specific variant of endogenous retrovirus (ERV-9) purified from pancreatic tissues of type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus [IDDM]) patients and its genes and peptide and their sequences, which can be used as a diagnosing reagent for type 1 diabetes and as an immunogen.
The diabetes-specific retrovirus expressed exclusively in pancreatic beta cells was purified from deceased type 1 diabetes patients. Subsequently, the retroviral gene sequences were determined, and by analyzing the amino acid sequence of the peptide deduced from the gene, 21 domains of the peptide having hydrophilicity and immuno-dominancy were identified.
