Abstract: Device containing a vacuum chamber 30 and situated therein a substrate 10 and a vaporization crucible 22 filled with inorganic materials 24. Situated in the region of the vacuum chamber 30 is an electron beam or laser gun 26, the electron or laser beam 27 of which is directed at the crucible 22. The device is employed for coating a substrate surface 18 e.g. a plastic film with a thin coating of inorganic materials, such as e.g. silicon oxides, by vapor deposition of the inorganic materials 24.The electron or laser beam 27 of the electron beam or laser gun 26 is directed at the surface of the inorganic materials 24 in the vaporizing crucible 22. The electron or laser beam 27 forms an angle .alpha. of 10.degree. to 80.degree. to the surface of the inorganic materials 24. On vaporizing the inorganic materials 24 an overhang 25 is formed in the inorganic materials 24 and, geometrically, there is no line of sight between the vaporizing inorganic materials and the substrate surface 18.
Abstract: An apparatus for treating incontinence includes a substantially tubular body member having a first end and a second end and defining a flow passage, an internal seal member positioned at the first end of the body member, an external retaining member positioned at the second end, at least one member of the internal seal member and the external retaining member being moveable longitudinally with respect to the other member of the internal seal member and the retaining member, ratchet structure for longitudinally securing the at least one member relative to the other member, whereby the tubular body member can be positioned in a urethra with the seal member substantially sealingly positioned in an interior opening of the urethra and with the retaining member positioned at an exterior opening of the urethra, and a valve positioned in the flow passage for controlling flow through the flow passage.
Abstract: A stable hydrocarbon-in-water emulsion includes a hydrocarbon phase containing natural surfactant; a water phase having an electrolyte content greater than about 10 ppm (wt) and less than or equal to about 100 ppm (wt) with respect to the water phase; and a surfactant additive including an amine and an ethoxylated alcohol in amounts effective to activate the natural surfactant and stabilize the emulsion.

Abstract: An apparatus for treating incontinence in females includes an elongate body member having a first end and a second end; an internal plug member positioned at the first end of the body member; an external retaining member positioned at the second end, at least one member of the internal plug member and the external retaining member being moveable longitudinally with respect to the other member of the internal plug member and the retaining member; and a member for longitudinally securing the at least one member relative to the other member, whereby the elongate body member can be positioned in a urethra with the plug member positioned at an interior opening of the urethra and with the retaining member positioned at an exterior opening of the urethra.
Abstract: A neutral dischargeable effluent is developed by reaction between an acidic, spent photographic fixer liquid and an alkaline, spent photographic developer liquid; the spent fixer liquid contains iron in solution, the iron being introduced in a de-silvering pretreatment of the spent fixer liquid. The two liquids are fed into a treatment chamber and are allowed to react in the treatment chamber to form a neutral liquid and precipitated iron-containing solids; the solids settle in the treatment chamber and the neutral liquid rises upwardly through a synthetic organic polymer fiber filter pad into a discharge chamber above the filter pad; fine sticky particles suspended in the rising neutral liquid are retained by the filter pad; a neutral effluent is discharged from the discharge chamber.
Abstract: The well known slip casting process for the production of ceramic green parts, in which hardening is achieved by water removal with porous molds, is characterized by disadvantages in terms of strength, shrinkage during drying and problems with cracking during drying. The present invention avoids these disadvantages and produces ceramic green parts by changing the surface potential of powder particles in the slip instead of by removing water. Further more the coagulation strength is increased by adding polymers or extremely fine divided colloidal particles.
Abstract: The foregoing objects are attained by the inventive opposed gating injection method and apparatus of the instant invention for forming molded articles and for use with injection molders wherein a first mold half and a second mold half are adapted to cooperate and form at least one mold cavity. The invention includes a first injector nozzle positioned in a first mold half adjacent the cavity, for injecting a first molding resin into the cavity through a first orifice. A second injector nozzle is included which is positioned in the second mold half adjacent the cavity for injecting a second molding resin. The second resin may be different from the first resin or the same as the first resin. The second resin is injected through a second orifice unconnected with the first orifice. In accordance with the invention, the injector nozzles may be either simultaneously or sequentially activated for filling the mold cavity, and may be single material or co-injection type nozzles.
Abstract: A method for producing a partitioned container of the present invention includes the steps of providing a preform having an interior surface; separately forming an inner wall for insertion into the preform; inserting the inner wall into the preform; preparing for molding and molding the preform and inner wall into the partitioned container; and activating a manner for securing the inner wall to the interior surface of the preform during the step of preparing. A system for forming a partitioned container in accordance with the present invention includes a preform including an interior surface surrounding a cavity; an inner wall formed separately from the preform, the inner wall including a manner for securing to the preform upon the application of heat thereto, and a molding device for molding the preform into the container.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a molded article having an insert incorporated therein comprises the steps of providing a first mold half having a mold core portion and a second mold half having a mold cavity portion, providing a carrier plate having a holder for an insert and a device for receiving the molded article located on the same face, positioning the carrier plate with the insert thereon between the first and second mold halves when the first and second mold halves are in an open position so that the insert is aligned with the mold core portion, transferring the insert to a position adjacent the mold core portion, withdrawing the carrier plate from between the first and second mold halves, moving the first and second mold halves together so that the mold cavity portion substantially surrounds at least a portion of the insert and defines a mold cavity space with the mold core portion, and injecting molten material into the mold cavity space so as to form the molded article.
Abstract: The present invention provides a laser beam levelling device which is provided with two rotatable heads wherein a horizontal laser plane can be emitted from the first head which is rotatable round a vertical axis and a vertical laser plane can be emitted from the second head which is rotatable round a horizontal axis. An apparatus consisting of two separate pendulums is provided for self-levelling of the two laser planes. One pendulum is mounted substantially in the lower extension of the axis of rotation of the first head. The other pendulum is arranged to the side of it in its own vertical axis. The first pendulum is pivotal about a substantially horizontal axis and the second pendulum about an axis which is also horizontal and at right angles thereto. A laser beam produced by a laser light source is guided by reflectors such that it is deflected from one pendulum to the other pendulum and from there into the rotating heads.
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting ice forming conditions includes a substrate having a first surface and a second surface; a sensor disposed on the first surface, the sensor being made of a material having a characteristic which varies in a known manner with respect to temperature; and a unit for monitoring the characteristic and for detecting ice forming conditions from the characteristic. A method for positioning the apparatus to detect ice forming conditions, to detect the presence of ice, and to determine an ice accretion rate is also provided.

Abstract: A plastic container of the present invention comprises a neck portion defining an opening, a shoulder portion continuous with the neck portion, and an intermediate sidewall portion continuous with the shoulder portion. The intermediate sidewall portion defines a major portion of a volume for holding a content. A base portion is also provided which is continuous with the intermediate sidewall portion. The base portion has a structure for supporting the container on a support surface and a surface feature for enhancing the strength of the structure. In a preferred embodiment, the structure is preferably comprised of one of a circumferential support ring and a plurality of circumferentially positioned feet. The surface feature for enhancing strength is substantially centered with respect to the structure. The surface feature for enhancing strength preferably comprises an indentation having a strength enhancing surface texture.
Abstract: In the case of a process for treating residues and waste materials, in particular household, commercial, and industrial trash, in a first step in the process these materials are treated thermomechanically, for example in a worm extruder, that is, in particular, heated, separated into fibers, and brought to a solid state. Then the materials in the solid state are separated selectively and subjected to a further recycling treatment.

Abstract: The invention relates to a pre-filled disposable syringe to be used in the administration of powdered drug diluted at the time of injection. The novelty resides in that the plunger head, along with an elastomer head, constitute a particular valve acting as a function of plunger displacements.

Abstract: A carriage body frame with a passenger compartment having longitudinal load-bearing sections of aluminum and light-weight composite panels between the load-bearing sections is such that the composite panels feature a plastic core with aluminum outer sheets adhesively bonded to both sides. The outer sheets extend partially over an aluminum connecting section which is integral to the composite panel; and fit to this by virtue of shape. The connecting section exhibits connecting strips which rest on correspondingly arranged connecting strips on the load-bearing section. The connecting section is joined to the load-bearing section by of laser welding. The outer sheets are joined at a free edge, likewise by laser welding, to the connecting section and, in the region of at least one connecting strip, the connecting section exhibits a U-shaped longitudinal channel which acts as a trap for adhesive and over which an outer sheet passes.

Abstract: A method for preparing an uncured supported elastomer material includes the steps of: providing a fibrous reinforcement material; providing a layer of uncured elastomer material substantially adjacent to the fibrous reinforcement material; exposing the layer and the fibrous reinforcement to a temperature below a curing temperature and above a flow point of the uncured elastomer material, and a pressure sufficient that the uncured elastomer material flows into the fibrous reinforcement material, so as to provide an uncured supported elastomer material.
