Abstract: A cap for sealing an outer end of an oil filler tube of an engine where the oil filler tube has an inner end with ball valve having a float ball and mating valve seat for impeding any reverse flow of oil during engine operation. The cap includes a sealable plug mating the tube outer end; a rod extending from the plug toward the inner end of the tube; and a valve opening device mounted to the rod for dislodging the float ball from the valve seat.
Abstract: A direct vessel injection-type pressurized light water reactor (DVI-PLWR), in which an emergency core cooling water (ECC) is directly injected into a downcomer of a reactor vessel, is disclosed. In order to reduce the ratio of ECC bypass from the downcomer to a broken area of a cold leg in the case of a cold leg guillotine break (CLGB), such as a double-ended guillo4tine break (DEGB), a plurality of corrugations, having a V-shaped cross-section, are vertically arranged around each of the inner surface of a pressure vessel and the outer surface of a core barrel at regular intervals, with a vertical groove formed between two neighboring corrugations. The grooves phase-separate the ECC from a high-speed lateral flow of fluid running in the downcomer, and the separated ECC stagnates in the form of vortexes in the grooves, prior to flowing down to the lower section of the downcomer due to gravity.

Abstract: LEDs 5 serving as light sources are arranged so as to face an incidence surface 4 of a light guide plate 3. Light emitted from the LEDs 5 is incident on the incidence surface 4 of the light guide plate 3 to enter the light guide plate 3 to be propagated through the light guide plate 3. When the angle of incidence of the light on an emission surface 6 of the light guide plate 3 is a critical angle or less while the light is propagated, the light leaves the emission surface 6. On at least one of the emission surface 6 of the light guide plate 6 and a surface 10 opposite to the emission surface 6 of the light guide plate 6, a large number of prism protrusions 12 extending in parallel to such a direction that a distance from the incidence surface 4 increases are formed along the incidence surface 4. A side-face side portion 10b of the prism protrusions 12 is formed so as to have a height gradually decreasing as a distance from the incidence surface 4 decreases.
Abstract: A fuel return valve comprises a housing and a closing unit, a first passage, which is line-connected to a fuel pump, a second passage, which is line-connected to an internal combustion engine, and a third passage, which is line-connected to the fuel tank, as well as a pressure chamber, being formed in the housing, which pressure chamber is in communication with the first passage, and, via the closing unit, with the third passage. To make a valve of this type maintenance-free and simple and inexpensive to produce, the closing unit is a piston which is guided in the housing attachment and is pressed by a spring arranged and supported in the housing attachment onto a sealing surface which is formed on the housing and surrounds the pressure chamber, and an annular chamber which is in communication with the third passage and with the space containing the spring is formed outside the sealing surface.
Abstract: A turbine engine has a rotor shaft rotatably carried within a non-rotating support structure. A seal is carried by the support structure circumscribing the shaft and having a flexible sealing element for sealing with the shaft. A chamber is located between the seal and support structure. A fluid is carried within the chamber and damps radial excursion of a seal axis from a support structure axis. The seal may be a full annulus or may be segmented. The fluid may be contained within one or more elastomeric bladders.
Abstract: After copper plates 14 are bonded to both sides of a ceramic substrate 10 via a brazing filler metal 12, UV curing alkali peeling type resists 16 are applied on predetermined portions of the surfaces of the copper plates 14 to etch undesired portions of the copper plates 14 to form a metal circuit portion. While the resists 16 are maintained, undesired portions of the brazing filler metal 12 and a reaction product, which is produced by a reaction of the brazing filler metal 12 with the ceramic substrate 10, are removed (or undesired portions of the brazing filler metal 12 and a reaction product, which is produced by a reaction of the brazing filler metal 12 with the ceramic substrate 10, are removed, and the side portion of the metal circuit portion is etched). Thereafter, the resists 16 are peeled off, and an Ni—P electroless plating 18 is carried out.
Abstract: A process for preparing a solution of a liquid additive in a liquid base wherein the liquid additive tends to gel when mixed with the liquid base at temperatures less than a gelling temperature TG includes the steps of providing a stream of the liquid base at a temperature TC which is greater than ambient temperature and less than the gelling temperature TG; feeding the stream to a mixer having a mixer inlet so as to impart energy to the stream; and adding the liquid additive to the stream downstream of the inlet, whereby the liquid additive mixes with the liquid base and the energy inhibits gelling of the liquid additive.

Abstract: A method for producing metallic ingots or strands, especially from steel and Ni and Co based alloys, by melting self-consuming electrodes in an electroconductive slag bath, using an alternating current or a direct current in a short water-cooled mold which opens downwards, via which an electric contact can be produced for the slag bath. The supplied melt current is passed via the consumable electrode, the bottom plate, the remelt ingot and the melting bath, and optionally at least one electroconductive element of the mold, to the slag bath. The current distribution can be regulated in a controlled manner and the return circuit of the melt current passes back via at least one other electroconductive element of the mold, which is electrically isolated in relation to a first part of the mold which forms the remelt ingot. The proportion of the entire melt current supplied via the bottom plate is selected between 0 and 100%.

Abstract: A method for the welding of plastic materials in the form of webs, films or the like by means of a heating wedge, welding being carried out without the use of a second pressure roller below the welded material webs. For this purpose, the heating wedge is placed onto the lower material web and is moved over the latter under pressure. The pressure is generated via a holding-down device which has a holding-down roller and which presses onto the upper material web and onto the heating wedge. A floating mounting for the heating wedge compensates for slight unevennesses on the lower material web.
Abstract: A casting system for forming a gas turbine engine component is provided. The casting system, in a first embodiment, comprises a shaped refractory metal sheet having a plurality of features for forming a plurality of film cooling passages, which features are formed from refractory metal material bent out of the sheet.
