Abstract: A double strip mixing grid for nuclear reactor fuel assemblies is disclosed. This grid is fabricated by intersecting at right angles a plurality of double strips, each fabricated by welding two thin sheets together into a single structure with coolant channels. The mixing grid, having the channels, effectively mixes low temperature coolant with high temperature coolant within a fuel assembly, thus improving the thermal efficiency of the fuel assemblies. This mixing grid also effectively prevents the coolant from being partially overheated, thus improving the soundness of nuclear reactors. This mixing grid also has swirling flow blades and/or lateral flow blades to further improve the thermal efficiency of the fuel assembly. This mixing grid elastically supports the fuel rods by the sheets of the double strips, collaterally acting as positioning springs.

Abstract: The invention relates to a bottom rail strip for bridging a joint between two floor coverings. The invention proposes that the bottom rail be designed with a hinge, by means of which one cover profile strip of the bottom rail can be laterally swivelled. The hinge makes it possible to adjust the bottom rail to floor coverings of varying height, and offset height differences.
Abstract: In a turbine engine, low temperature air is diverted from a low pressure section of the compressor section of the engine to cool the high pressure turbine of the engine. Low pressure air is diverted from the compressor section, and its pressure is thereafter increased. Preferably, the pressure is increased in an intermediate cavity in the engine, where rotational energy of the diverted air is converted to static pressure by way of an obstruction that converts dynamic head of the air in the cavity into static pressure.

Abstract: There is disclosed a method for visualizing secondary structures of RNA molecules, by which nearly overlap-free polygonal displays of RNA secondary structures are produced with minimal distortion to structural elements, with minimal search for positioning them, and with minimal user intervention. While vector and vector space are used to determine the direction and space of a structural element, two heuristics are adopted for the task of searching for the space and direction of structural elements. With the aid of the two heuristics, loops are positioned in decreasing order of their sizes and a helix is positioned, depending on the position of its adjacent loop which has been positioned. In consideration of both a potentially open and wide vector space and an allowed vector space, a structural element is positioned.

Abstract: A data managing apparatus includes a data file storing records each including data units corresponding to predetermined items, and an index file corresponding to a certain item which requires data arrangement in a predetermined sequence and storing change bits each corresponding to one of the records stored in the data file and each representing whether data has been changed between the adjacent records with respect to the corresponding item. When a retrieval request is received from an operator about the foregoing certain item, the change bits are read from the index file following a retrieval start position and a retrieval direction designated by the retrieval request, so that a requested record is identified based on the read change bits. Then, data units of the identified record are read from the data file and notified to the operator via a display device or the like.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a maskant system for use with a fluoride cleaning system. The maskant system comprises a parting compound applied to a surface which requires protection and a chromium rich maskant for substantially preventing intergranular attack and which reduces a depletion zone. The parting compound contains colloidal silica, de-ionized water, fused alumina grains, and alumina powder. The maskant is comprised of chromium powder mixed with a binder, a wetting agent, a thickening agent, and water. The maskant system may be used to clean components formed from nickel-based or cobalt-based alloys using a fluoride cleaning system and has particular utility when components formed from single crystal nickel based alloys are cleaned using a fluoride cleaning system.
