  • Patent number: 6619917
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved system for installing a vane in a gas turbine. The system includes a receptor pocket positioned within a first support structure and a boot attached to a first or inner end of a vane for insertion into the receptor pocket. In a first embodiment of the present invention, the receptor pocket is formed by machining it into the support structure. In a second embodiment of the present invention, the receptor pocket is formed by an insert which is installed into the support structure. In accordance with the present invention, the inner end of the vane having the boot is first inserted into the receptor pocket. After insertion has been completed, the vane is rotated until an outer base is brought into position against an outer support structure. The outer end of the vane is then secured to the outer support structure using studs and nuts.

  • Patent number: 6619246
Abstract: A device for actuating a gas exchange valve of an internal combustion engine or gas generator comprises an armature which is operatively connected to the valve stem of a valve member and which is disposed in a chamber between opposed pole faces of a valve closing electromagnet and a valve opening electromagnet. A gas pressure source is connected by a supply line to the chamber. When the electromagnet is energized, it is effective to act on the armature to move the valve member to the closed position. The arrangement is such that reduction of the electromagnetic force exerted on the armature by the electromagnet is effective to enable the gas pressure from the source to move the valve member to the open position. This opening movement of the valve member may be assisted by energizing the opening electromagnet. Movement of the valve member from the open to the closed position may be assisted by a return spring. The valve actuator minimizes the electric power consumption for the electromagnets.

  • Patent number: 6620042
Abstract: A portable game machine electronically executes target games and has an input unit, a game processing unit, and a display unit in a housing. A plurality of targets to be hit are displayed on the display unit. First kicking data concerning an X coordinate when a ball reaches one of the targets and second kicking data concerning a Y coordinate when the ball reaches one of the targets are successively input by the game player through one of the operation keys provided for the input unit. By using the information of the first kicking data and the second kicking data, the game processing unit determines whether the ball hits one of the targets defined by the X coordinate and the Y coordinate. Based on the determination result, an image of the target after the ball has been kicked is displayed on the display unit.

  • Patent number: 6608881
Abstract: A duct-type spacer grid for nuclear fuel assemblies is disclosed. In this spacer grid, a plurality of duct-shaped grid elements, individually having an octagonal cell, are closely arranged in parallel and are welded together, thus forming a matrix structure. The grid elements do not pass across the center of the subchannel of the assembly, thus effectively reducing pressure loss. Each of the grid elements is formed as an independent cell, and so they effectively resist against a lateral impact. A plurality of integral type swirl flow vanes, having different heights or same height, axially extend from the top of the grid to be positioned within each subchannel. The swirl flow vanes are bent outwardly, and so they do not contact the fuel rods during an insertion of the fuel rods into the cells. In the spacer grid, the fuel rods are supported within the cells by line contact springs without using any dimple.

  • Patent number: 6606354
Abstract: The process to measure the signal quality of a digital information transmission system using a scanning device with adjustable direct current threshold can determine a signal parameter for the signal quality (Q-factor), which can determine the bit-rate from an unknown input signal and with its help a clock signal can be generated to scan the input signal with the scanning device. The device includes a detection device as well as a clock generator, which is connected to the detection device and receives a pre-adjustment signal, and which synchronizes with the input signal over a phase locked loop with the scanning device through phase comparison. Process and device allow the monitoring of systems in a shortest time and facilitate statements concerning the bit-rate of the respective line section as well as concerning the size of the Q-factor and all relating variables.
