  • Patent number: 4107820
Abstract: A device for opening and mixing fibers according to a predetermined mixture ratio with a pincer-like gripper device. A carriage transports the pincer-like gripper pass bales of different fibers so that the pincer-like gripper device can remove fibers from said bales according to desired ratios for making up a predetermined mixture ratio. The width that the gripper device is opened is variable so that small amounts of fibers can be picked up from the bales when a small ratio is desired and when a large ratio is desired for making up the mixture ratio, the grippers can be opened wider for making the device more efficient.

  • Patent number: 4108170
Abstract: A support strap for use in supporting a patient as when seated to prevent slumping of the patient as when the patient becomes drowsy. An elongated strap is employed which is preferably constructed of polyurethane and the like which has a substantial thickness and a width several times that of the thickness in order to afford a degree of yieldability. The opening formed by the strap is deformable but the strap is of sufficient width to prevent the strap from twisting. Since the strap possesses a substantial cross-sectional area, yielding under limited force to a certain extent is permitted while further yielding will be arrested. Lengths of Velcro fastening members are provided on opposite sides adjacent the ends of the strap permitting fastening of the strap about the body and a supporting member with sufficient adjustability to accommodate various sizes of patients to a variety of positions.

  • Patent number: 4104696
Abstract: A grid wire for use in a duct for imparting ions in the air flowing through the duct responsive to a voltage being placed on the grid. The grid includes a housing which has upper, lower and intermediate horizontally extending supports carried therein. Laterally spaced grid wires extend between the upper and lower support members. Screw means are provided for securing the grid wires to the intermediate non-conductive support members so as to minimize the length of the free swinging portion of the wire in case the wire breaks. By making the intermediate support member non-conductive a more uniform discharge of ions is produced by the grid.

  • Patent number: 4083171
Abstract: A method and apparatus for eliminating an abnormality in a thread being produced by a spinning element of an open-end spinning device and wound on a bobbin. A knotting device is placed in the path of the thread extending between the spinning element and the bobbin. A sensor senses the abnormality in the thread which may be a break or a thin or thick spot therein. If the abnormality is a break the end is placed in the spinning element for being attached to thread being produced therein. This, in turn, causes an abnormality in the thread. A cutter severs the thread at the point of abnormality and the severed portion is carried away. The knotting device is used for tying the ends of the severed thread together during the knotting operation the thread being fed from the spinning element is stored intermediate the knotting device and the spinning element and at the conclusion of the tying operation the length of thread stored intermediately is run down until completely used up.

  • Patent number: 4078586
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a selvage on a fabric woven on a loom in which filling threads are drawn from a stationary supply outside the shed formed by the warp yarns. The method and apparatus includes inserting a first filling through the shed. The ends of the first filling are clamped by a first pair of clamps positioned on opposite sides of the shed which hold the filling in an extended position. The filling thread is beat-up into the fell of the fabric and simultaneously the ends thereof are displaced behind the fell of the fabric for engagement by a second pair of clamps. The filling is then severed outside of the second pair of clamps so that the second pair of clamps continues to hold the ends of the filling in an extended position behind the fell of the fabric. The shed is then changed and the above steps are repeated until a predetermined number of fillings are held by the second pair of clamps.

  • Patent number: 4078231
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring the production of spun yarn in an open end rotor spinning machine. The spun yarn is withdrawn from the open end rotor spinning machine at a constant rate of speed. As a result of changes in mass of the yarn created by flaws therein, the centrifugal force within the rotor varies causing the tension in the yarn to vary accordingly. As the yarn is withdrawn from the rotor, it passes around a spring loaded arm which is displaced according to the centrifugal force applied to the yarn. The spring loaded arm is operately connected to a balance bridge circuit which generates an output signal corresponding to the displacement thereof. The output signal from the balance circuit is then fed to an integrator which integrates the signal to produce a slowly varying integrated reference signal.
