  • Patent number: 4162556
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing trash and the like from an elongated collection chamber provided on an open-end spinning apparatus. The trash, after separation from the fibrous material, is deposited in the collection chamber. A conveyor belt running through the collection chamber removes the large, coarse trash particles therefrom. A pneumatically intermittently operated collecting device removes the finer trash particles from the collection chamber without adversely affecting the separation operation wherein the trash is initially separated from the fibrous material. In one particular embodiment, a stripper cooperates with the conveyor belt that is used for removing the coarse trash particles for successively positioning a stream of air through the collecting chamber for removing the finer trash particles therefrom. A mechanical stripper is utilized with the stream of air for removing the fine trash particles from the walls of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4148155
Abstract: A system and apparatus for growing plants in a nutrient solution while supported in an inert medium contained in a pot container includes a nutrient solution reservoir and automatic feeder apparatus for maintaining a predetermined level of nutrient solution in the container including a tube member connected to the reservoir having an open end carried a predetermined distance above the container bottom for dispensing the solution. An air vent communicates with the tube member allowing air to enter the reservoir in response to the level of nutrient solution in the container falling below the open end of the tube member as the solution is drawn by capillary action through the media into the roots. The nutrient solution flows into the container until the open end of the feeder tube is covered so as to continuously maintain the level of nutrient solution. An overflow opening drains excess liquid from the pot preventing overwatering and stagnation when used outdoors.

  • Patent number: 4143502
Abstract: A free span arch structure is illustrated including transversely spaced elongated flexible structural sections flexed from a substantially straight configuration when unflexed into a substantially parabolic configuration without exceeding the yield point of the structural sections so as to impart a permanent set thereto. Means are provided for supporting and for restraining the structural section adjacent the ends thereof against outward and downward movement retaining the sections flexed in the parabolic configuration. The method contemplates lifting structural sections, which are illustrated in the form of aluminum pipes, by exerting a lifting force as by a crane intermediate the ends thereof in a medial portion, and then raising an intermediate portion of the pipe by the application of the lifting force while supporting the opposed ends of the pipe as on the ground or otherwise as in the case of a roof, on the walls.

  • Patent number: 4137487
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically leveling a band of fibers such as sliver, roving and the like by varying the drafting speed of a drafting mechanism responsive to variations in the thickness of the band. Analogue signals are produced by variations in the thickness of the band and are converted to digital signals for being stored in a digital register. After a period of time, corresponding with the time for conveyance of the scanned point in the sliver up to and into the draft zone, the information is read out of the storage register and converted back to an analogue signal. The analogue signal is compared with another signal representing the actual drafting speed for producing a compared signal for controlling the drafting speed.
