  • Patent number: 4170101
Abstract: A method and apparatus for piecing up a broken entwined yarn being produced on a machine from a bundle of spinning fibers and a binding thread. The bundle of spinning fibers are fed through a pair of delivery rollers into a rotating hollow spindle. The binding thread is carried on a bobbin that is, in turn, carried on the hollow spindle for being wrapped around the bundle of fibers as it passes through the hollow spindle producing an entwined yarn. Upon breaking of the entwined yarn the bundle of spinning fibers is deflected between the delivery rollers and the hollow spindle out of its normal path by a stream of suction air. An end of the entwined yarn is drawn off of a takeup bobbin and fed back through the hollow spindle and is united with an end of the binding thread. The ends of the binding thread and the entwined yarn are then twisted together with the bundle of spinning fibers and the production of the yarn is re-initiated.

  • Patent number: 4169342
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the flow of articles being fed to a case packer in rows on a transporting surface by separating a predetermined number or charge of articles loaded on the case packer from the incoming articles. The apparatus includes a plurality of divider plates which separate the articles into rows and a plurality of fluid operated cylinders which are carried above the rows. The cylinders have pistons extending downwardly therefrom upon which an elongated abutment is carried. These cylinders are selectively activated for raising and lowering the abutments into and out of the path of the incoming articles for stopping the flow of articles to the case packer. This is to enable the articles to be loaded into a case without being adversely affected by the pressure of the incoming articles bearing thereagainst. The cylinders are carried on a plate whose longitudinal position can be adjusted for loading articles of different sizes.

  • Patent number: 4168037
Abstract: A winding apparatus including a winding roll driving a bobbin and a yarn reservoir arranged between a yarn supply point and the winding roll. The state of filling of the reservoir is monitored by a monitoring device which generates a signal for controlling the speed of the winding roll. Interposed between a driven drive shaft and the winding roll are a pair of intermediate wheels which are selectively brought into engagement with the drive shaft and the winding roll responsive to predetermined states of filling of yarn on the reservoir that is sensed by the monitoring device so as to either drive the winding roll at speed higher or lower than the delivery speed at the yarn delivery point. A brake lever is operably connected to a mechanism which supports the intermediate wheels and is brought into contact with the winding roll when both the intermediate wheels are out of engagement with the shaft and winding roll for stopping the winding roll.

  • Patent number: 4165056
Abstract: A tensioning device is illustrated wherein a plurality of longitudinally aligned upright receptacles carry stacked rollers the lowermost of which is driven by the passage of yarn thereunder. A vertical yarn passageway is carried in at least one end of the housing forming an end receptacle to permit a change of direction in the yarn to cause up and down roller movement to compensate for changes in tension in the yarn as well as alternate yarn paths. Passageways are provided in the housing adjacent the pairs of rollers so as to permit expulsion of lint from the receptacles which is promoted by turning of the rolls. Magnetic means may be carried beneath the device for varying the force exerted by the rollers on the strand and the magnetic means may be varied for this purpose. Detector means such as photo-electric devices may be utilized for detecting variation in the turning of the rollers to act as a stop motion for the machine utilizing the tensioning device.
